This episode had so much wacky, bizarre stuff. Like Nodoka said in the pre-opening bump, "These people are way too relaxed." There's a life and death struggle here and the announcers are discussing optimal on-plane sleeping strategies...ww.

I just noticed that Saki and Strike Witches are currently the top two in post count on the first page of the "Licensed" sub-forum. Also, Nodoka and Charlotte Yeager have the same VA (Ami Koshimizu)...which is weird since they both have such very different personas and voice styles. Unified as they may be by huge breasts.

They really packed alot to this episode, more then I expected. And I'm surprised it's still almost 1:1 to manga, I thought they already runned out of source material (at time when this episode was made).
Anyway it looks like next episode will be "last" one.

Suu an kou tanki = double yakuman

Suu an kou, suu kan tsu = baiyakuman

Heh. So it's not necessarily Koromo's danger sense that's wrong but the fact that Kiyosumi can change her hand from a low point hand to a larger point hand. Now that 2000 point in relation to 24000 makes much more sense.

Fun episode. Looking forward to next week's.

Proto: "Double yakuman" and "Bai yakuman" are different things.

Tenhou has no double yakuman but yakuman still stacks.

Think it only says no double yakuman. Didn't say anything with regard to stacking yakuman.

Sorry, you are right, I guess 4 hours without sleep are not helping. It hasn't been explicitly said, but I'd say the same rationale applies.

BTW, these four at the mahjong table all have weird foibles but what's funnier is the others' - mostly Yumi's - "huh" reaction to all of it.

Kana lets loose a roar (Yumi thinks maybe she's lost it. What? Didn't Kana already lose it when she was splayed across the table at half time?), Saki has to take off her shoes, and Koromo speaks condescendingly to everyone at the table. I'm surprised no one has any reaction - even a either "WTF" or a heated response back - to Koromo calling them peons to their face.

Then again, Fujita-pro is pretty weird too. Her obsession with katsudon, her digression into airplane foot rests...

Is this a case where the more uber you are at mahjong, the weirder you'll probably be?

Given the reaction of Kazekoshi to Kana's "roar," it seems fairly evident that the audience can hear the conversations at the table.

This means that Saki's line about going to nationals and making up with her sister was heard by everyone. I think most people are going to disregard it as a throwaway line or forget it in the aftermath of the excitement over Kiyosumi's 24k win. However, the reporters shouldn't forget, right? That's got to be a huge clue for them.

I'm going to be very disappointed if someone doesn't manage to figure out Saki's family connection without the benefit of Saki just coming right out and telling them.

Anyway, the episode is just 2 chapters behind the manga now, and in the preview you can see scenes from the last pages of the very last chapter that is released. I really hope that the anime makers and the mangaka have been working together and they are just aiming for a simultaneous release for the prefectural tournament ending or something.

Spoiler for Episode 18: At first i thought flashbacks were going to take over, though that all ended when the insanely good second half started, and it's all thanks to the epic play from Saki. Pure fun and enjoyment, and that's why i love this series. It just kept on delivering, all the way until the ED started. To top it all off, i had that amazing foot scene which was completely unexpected. I'll be rewatching that scene quite abit in a few minutes~ I'm one of those fans that doesn't know anything about mahjong, though i still after 18 episodes enjoy this show so much. Spoiler for ep 18: - Some awfully awkward and shifty walking animation these flashbacks... - NYAA-ROAR!!! - Seeing Momoko clutching the water bottle at 7:41, I wonder what the chances of her having score an indirect kiss with her sempai are. - Some might find Koromo's translation a bit over the top, but I love it. "What devilry is this? Those knave's visage holds nary a trace of defeats colour." I can totally hear that being said in an English dub, cute loli voice-style. It's all GARmoe. Though I do wonder, if Saki is region-blocked to the UK, why use the British spelling for "colour?" - The true requirement for being taishou against Koromo is obviously "must have explicit yuri pairing." - Mental image of loli ver. Saki playing against her current opponents at 13:16....d'awwwwww. - Saki ruined Kana's yakuman...orz. - The "Family?" thing with Koromo is a pretty intriguing end. Inserting flashbacks in every corner of the story to bore the hell out of me. Ahaha. The part at the end got fired up again, which was the only thing that saved the episode.
