Thank you for finding it. I wasn't sure why Sakuya left Hayate in the cold so I decided to see the chapter that part of the episode was based on for the answer. I still don't get it though.

Wow I didn't expect knight rider for sure...Is that even something the average japanese otaku would know about?

Nice to finally see some chapters I recognize from the manga atlast though...Here's to hoping that keeps up.

No matter what enemy. No matter what ally. Mowing everything down with maximum destructive power.

That is...

Knight Rider, Michelle Tanner aka Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen on TV in Japan

NHK TV broadcasts a lot of foreign programs, including US shows like Knight Rider, Doogie Howser M.D., ALF, Beverly Hills 90210, and Full House. During the past few years, I have come across Japanese posters mentioning a number of times Knight Rider (including KITT), ALF, Beverly Hills 90210, and Full House (especially Michelle Tanner, played by the fraternal twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) on anime threads at 2ch and at livedoor.

Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen -> Kate Ashley in RED GARDEN? Michelle Tanner on Lupin III?

(I have come across a few posts by Japanese fans, though, who found it amusing that Osaka [deliberately] speaks with a Texas drawl in the English dub [by Texas-based ADV Films] of Azumanga Daioh.)

During the same time, however, I encountered on those very same Japanese message boards numerous mentions by Japanese fans of live-action non-Japanese actors, Asian and non-Asian, by name - from Jet Li to Tom Cruise to ... Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen?!

I have seen the non-identical twin sisters Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen - and the character they played on the American television comedy series, Full House (1987-1995), Michelle Tanner - mentioned a number of times in anime threads on 2ch and livedoor.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Michelle Tanner, and Full House apparently enjoy some popularity in Japan.

Last month when I saw the name of one of the main characters in RED GARDEN, Kate Ashley, I immediately thought that Mary-Kate and Ash[l]ey Olsen may have inspired her name. A little later, a Japanese fan posted on 2ch the very same thought.

Michelle Tanner apparently inspired the name of a main guest character in the latest Lupin III television special, which aired Friday, September 8, 2006 on NTV (Nippon Television Network) in Japan.

In the Lupin III: Seven Days Rhapsody TV Special (2006), "Lupin is planning a race track robbery in six day, but he becomes the bodyguard of one Michelle Tanner."

Excluding famous celebrities who have dubbed anime in English, e.g., Hollywood stars involved with Disney dubs of Studio Ghibli films...

Since I made the above quoted post in the Red Garden thread over a year ago, I still have yet to find "even a single mention by Japanese fans of any regular English dub anime voice actor [VA] by name" - whether they be Crispin Freeman, Wendee Lee, Steven Blum, Monica Rial, Johnny Yong Bosch, Michelle Ruff, Laura Bailey, Vic Mignogna, Kari Wahlgren, or whoever. They might as well be John or Jane Doe as far as they are concerned.

Why did Sakuya drop Hayate in the end and leave?

His attempt at a joke was so bad, (for a lack of a better phrase...) she wanted to facepalm into the floor. It's more understandable (and blatant) in the manga chapter.

Since I have no idea what the policy is on posting 2 manga panels of something licensed (Yes, I read the forum rules), I'll put it in spoiler tags to be safe in some way. It's comparable to posting a screenshot of Code Geass' 24+25th episodes after licensing, no?
Spoiler for Hayate's joke in the manga:

In the race scene, besides the lines from Gundam, isn't the other lines from Future GPX Cyber Formula? I'm think "deadly high speed curve 600R" would be from there, but not sure about the others like the "I'm wipe him out of my mirror" and "A miracle is just about to begin!"

Love the Knight Rider reference in this episode & kudos to dub for calling the Car KITT.
