I don't know about you, but I take "get off from" as meaning physical attraction. Quote:

Japanese man marries video-game character.
http://www.boingboing.net/2009/11/25...wedding-a.html
On Sunday, a man named Sal9000 married the love of his life. Her name is Nene Anegasaki, and she lives inside of a Nintendo DS video game called Love Plus. The wedding took place during a Make: Japan meet-up held at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. In attendance were a live audience, an MC, the bride's virtual video game girlfriend — who made a speech — and a real human priest. The event was livecast on Nico Nico Douga, a popular video sharing web site. Only in Japan...

So, what happens if he falls in love with a real woman? I suppose that's a big 'if' considering he's marrying a game character.... but he will have to go through the divorce procedures before being able to re-marry.
"Let's get married! Oh wait... I'm still married to my 2d wife inside my Nintendo DS, I'll have to divorce her." Upon which the real woman slowly creeps away looking scared. But honestly... I can't help but laugh when seeing the whole procedure in that video.

So I'm guessing if the DS breaks that means she is dead.
Honestly I'm more taken back, not by the fact he wanted to marry a videogame character, but by the fact that a marriage between a videogame character and a person was even allowed to happen.

Man Marries Video Game Character
Edit: Found the thread
Things can't get any worse than this, even marrying a robot or a doll is more humane. At least they have a physical form. Its funny that he had "other" game character girlfriends before he "met" her. I mean the game IS design for you to date these game characters. Would be really funny when people on the net show him even if he "married" her, she is still a video game character that can be played on by other people hahaha. So guys what would be worse than marrying a fictional game character? Last edited by Rion Steiner; 2009-11-28 at 20:26. |

"She's not cheating on me! Sure, she does other guys when they play, but I'm the one she truly loves!!"
Ugh. How on Earth did this get past the legal system? Isn't it rape or something? She doesn't have the ability to say no! She's not even a real life person, how does that work?

I mean the character seems to be valid enough of a person for a marriage to be allowed. So...
