Angel Beats! licensed by Sentai Filmworks
Angel Beats has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks for release on DVD and Blu-ray. It will also receive an English dub.
This thread is to discuss this development as details continue to be released over time. |

It getting licensed is awesome, but being on BD is a whole other level of awesome.

I'd hope they don't dub over TK. All of his lines are song lyrics, so it doesn't make sense to change them from their source. Whether you're listening to everyone else speak english or japanese shouldn't matter, since what he says is nonsense for the most part anyway.

I just care about the subs
I hope they don't screw TK and I can't imagine GirlDeMo singing in english I generally don't like english dubs I rather watch it with english subes more than in spanish I'd like to see how it will be if they dub it to spanish Don't get me wrong but I prefer spanish dub than english and english subs more than spanish

True story - I once worked with two guys named Jesus and Angel. Not related to each other. They got tired of the jokes pretty quickly, but it really only came up when they sent email since their names were obviously pronounced a bit differently than Jesus and angel in English.
Anyway, I saw a stream of the first dubbed episode of Angel Beats. Tenshi is called Angel. The stream's audio was bad so I couldn't tell how they handled TK. The song in the concert scene was in Japanese as expected. The dub seemed to be okay. I recognized some voices from other Sentai/old ADV dubs, but I couldn't name anyone since I don't really follow VAs. I am looking forward to the Blu-ray. |

I saw it in person, and I really liked it. Yurippe was cute and Angel was too, although she hasn't had many spoken lines yet. I'm pretty sure TK is redubbed; I haven't seen the show in Japanese yet (since I don't watch fansubs), but I have seen snippets of his dialogue on Youtube clips. He speaks English here, not Japanese or anything.
I don't know if it's just me, but this dub seemed to worry far less about matching lip-flaps than others. Which could be a good thing. |
