Damn. Listening to that makes me want to play the game yet again. It's truly one of my favorite RPGs of all time, and its gorgeous soundtrack is one of the reasons.
I've also been enjoying the soundtrack to Dragon's Age: Origins. It stays in the background much of the time, but it certainly enhances the experience of the game.

The recent Contra game, Hard Corps Uprising has a rocking soundtrack by none other than the Ishiwatari Daisuke. I'd say it's as great as anything in Guilty Gear and Blazblue and it complements the game's fast paced intense action quite well

the Metal Gear Solid series has some nice soundtracks overall, especially the 3rd instalment of the series and you couldn't have a videogame soundtrack thread without mentioning GTA: Vice City (even thought it's mostly a cheat since it's made up basically of hits from the 80s) but if you add in VNs Clannad would probably take the cake and that's just because I haven't actually played the other Key works (Kanon sounds like it should come out on top).
Is the OST in white that much different from black? I'm asking because while I found the OST for the game surprisingly above every other pokemon to date it was still rather annoying in a couple of towns. Driftveil in particular annoyed me from the moment I first heard it which is strange since it's not a bad tune, it's just that it doesn't feel that good as a videogame background music.

Diving into obscure territory, there's Wild Arms: Rocking Heart, a mostly rock and jazz arrangement of previous Wild Arms songs. I never really enjoyed Wild Arms music, but the remixes are very catchy. On the more dramatic and recent side, Xenoblade has many quality tracks. Xenoblade's soundtrack easily outclasses the soundtrack of it's spiritual predecessor, Xenogears. (In my arrogant opinion.) Okami brings excellent Japanese music to my ears. The only problem is the songs are too short (<2 minutes in length) and loop repetitively. |
