Like I said earlier though, I wouldn't jump to conclusions until after the fight ends. Even though Miura's chances of winning is unlikely, given the nature of the competition, it wouldn't be at all surprising if Miura is given a... moment before it ends. And maybe another flashback.

About that theory of Sieglinde being identified with Miura because she started as an underdog. I found a key element that render said guessing almost completely unplausible. Sieglinde is called the undefeated champion for a reason. Se has never been properly defeated in an official match which means she never was an underdog.

I understand what they were trying to do, they were trying to make Miura into a credible threat to Vivio by showing her overcome a superior oponent, and to make her into an actual character we could even root for. Wolkenritter instead of gadget drones, so to speak.
Problem is... they kinda too good a job at turning Miura into a character (we really like her), and not good enough a job (so far at least) in making Vivio seem in any danger. Sure, the numbers are going down rather evenly, but Miura's already had her trumph card attack shrugged off. Vivio's yet to even begin showing of hers. |

I have to wonder... with the supposed safety magic that is going on, why can't they include some sort of safety undergarments that are impervious to being destroyed? I think I know why this tournament is so popular: people await the inevitable clothing damage! Mica just had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction...
Edit: side note, I find myself interested in the girl with the gun that Einhart bashed in that one panel.... |

I see your plothole and I raise you one: What the heck is up with Vivid's barrier jackets to begin with? Clothing damage has always been fairly minimal in any other fight, and those were the fights with people chopping at eachother with bladed weapons. Yet here the jackets practically disintegrate from the glancing blow of a punch.

To be fair the only notable victims of this are Fate and Micaiah while both are using Jackets specifically designed to sacrifice defense in favour of a speed enhacement. Other fighter's jackets had also been damaged but not to the point of stripperific fanservice like the aformentioned two xDU

Not a plothole, yeah. Just something a bit... odd, when you consider everything. It reminds me much of Akamatsu's fetish for clothing destruction in Negima. I know, we don't exactly read Vivid for plot, so I guess I'm just chafing a bit at how far they're going. Even Nanoha and Fate, despite the powerful direct attacks they took in S1, still had mostly intact outfits.
But perhaps that is part and parcel for the tournament.... Official: "And sign right here as well..." Vivio: *while signing* "What's this one?" Official: "Oh, nothing much. Just that you agree to the terms of partial or full nudity may occur during the tournament and any pictures or video arising from such a situation are the sole property of the Tournament to use for promotion, third-party deals, etc..." (Corona reddens considerably while Rio puts a finger to her lips and does a thoughtful "Hmmm...")) Vivio: *pauses and blinks* "Ummm... the safety magic doesn't cover that?" Official: "Cover it? It's a large reason why the tournament is so popular, especially once we focused on recruiting mainly young, female mages!" Nanoha: "Just sign it and let's go, dear. You do realize what happens when you transform, right? And have you seen your Fate-mama's Sonic Form? Doesn't exactly leave much to the imagination." Fate: "...Hey!" |

And yeah, it does justify Lu's outfit. I mean, if there's a big chance you're gonna lose it anyway there's no reason to dress according to public standards in the first place. |

Actually, stripping increases your dodge stat.
In Lutecia's case at least, that bloomer type thing she wears is optimal for unhindered movement.
