I hate to hear when people say newer anime are filled with ecchi and moe craps. It just unfair because such things don't exists back then. Much like today's music industry is worse than 1960's because Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber weren't there.

I'd place my votes on anything that's not 4 cours (heck over 2 cours already tests my patience), and that they don't blatantly reuse animation practically every episode. If you call that 'modern' anime so be it; I care not for the actual label.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the anime in OP's picture are from OVA, which often look a lot better and more detailed than TV anime. So placing them right next to more recent TV anime may not be fair. Also, where are the fluffy magical girl series and throwaway romantic comedies from the "old ages?" All I see there are serious/action titles, and they aren't completely representative of anime from that time. It's blatant cherry picking.
I can cherry pick too! As for me, I like both new and old. There's really no way for me to watch most old anime since they're heavily undersubbed. So I end up with higher average scores for pre-2000 anime since I mostly watch what has endured the great quality filter of time. Older anime also give me a fresh look at a time when animation styles were different from now. But at the same time, while I love a lot of older anime, I prefer the sensibilities and art styles of modern anime more. Yes, this includes a lot of those "moe girls" series that some older fans seem to dread, like Tamayura and Kamichu. This is because I only seriously started seriously getting into anime in 2008, so this is my generation of anime that I'm accustomed to. Quote:

I'm going to close this thread because it's poorly conceived. It's nothing more than:
1. Post flamebait picture or link. 2. Say "DISCUSS!" 3. Watch the fireworks unfold. We've had lots of threads about this sort of thing before, and many were better constructed than this. If someone really wants to have a serious discussion about this point, please start with a more balanced opening and a clearer purpose that isn't just getting trying to get fans to duke it out. In general I would say we don't need more "vs." threads, unless they contain some sort of smart or interesting angle.
