How does the Zeta Gundam look horrid? Man, the moment I saw Akatsuki for the first time the phrase "tacky" came to mind.

To me it just not a good design. I can't stand it really. I just like akatsuki's design.

More does not = better in my opinion(as in weapons, and random things sticking out). I like the simplicity of the UC designs.

Why? Is it because it doesn't have that blocky, generic gundam look to it?

Well considering i don't think akatsuki design is blocky or generic it wasn't all that obvious to me. Anyway, to answer your question no. Why don't I like it? The design just isn't appealing to me. That's all.

How exactly is Akatsuki not blocky and generic? All it really has going for it is simply having a distinct coloring. It still pretty much consist of the blocky, generic look when it comes to Gundams at the current time.

The Zeta was designed over 20 years ago and is still the sleekest and most modern looking Gundam design. It manages to look like a Gundam while being the first to break the formula for how a Gundam "should" look.

You know what, that's exactly what it is. The head of the thing kills it for me.

So true and it looks so good...For something made in 1985 it truley stands the test of time...In 1985 I imagine the animation in Zeta...it had to be the cream of the crop...I have the Zeta digitally re-mastered DVD episodes and they look even more superior...The mechs in Zeta, including ZETA GUNDAM easily looks better than the mechs in Gundam X and Victory which are about a decade after Zeta...The crispness of some of these really complicated looking suits in Zeta even challenge if not beat many of the fodder MS's that GSD offer...

My favorite designs are Freedom (and Strike Freedom) and Wing Zero Custom. Sorry, but I'm really a fan of that whole angelic gundam look thing. That central cannon on SF really put a hole in that angelic look, but that's fine...sometimes power has to be prioritized over simply looking like the sword of the goddess has just come out to pwn the living hell out of anyone remotely against her.

Anything before Wing IMHO is simply too shitty in animation. I hate to be an animation whore and all that, but I really don't have much of an appreciation for super mario brothers, or Link to the Past simply because they look so damn shitty. I don't care about "for the time", I care about now. Yes, I'm shallow. But you're asking for favorites. So I choose the winged pwn-them-all-unless-pilot-is-under-par gundams that look like the hand of god incarnate.

My ultimate favorite design would be if S.Freedom and Wing Zero Custom merged. Imagine ten white feathered wings, with all of freedom's cannons (except the center one) being there, all with the strength of buster rifles, and then feather dragoons (like 40 of the things!), then of course you have Zero's and Freedom's top-notch speed and maneuverability, all combined with the blue black white and gold coloring to make the ultimate angelic gundam!
