A planet going around these stars at a slower rate might be difficult to detect. How are they going around the star in days or maybe weeks rather than months and years like most of the planets in out solar system. Even Mercury takes 88 days to go around the Sun.

Chinese 'Thunder God' plant could crush cancer:
"Scientists believe a plant used for centuries in Chinese medicine may offer a cure for the pancreatic cancer that afflicted Apple talisman Steve Jobs and many others worldwide each year. Boffins from University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center have been testing Minnelide, a drug extracted from the lei gong ten or ‘thunder god vine’ (Tripterygium wilfordii) and presented their results in the Science Translational Medicine on Thursday. For those in the know, Minnelide is a water soluble form of triptolide, a diterpenoid. When tested on mice it was found to be “highly effective in reducing pancreatic tumour growth” and “shows promise as a potent chemotherapeutic agent against pancreatic cancer”, according to the research. “This drug is just unbelievably potent in killing tumor cells,” Ashok Saluja, vice chairman of research at the centre, told Bloomberg." Mobile Holodecks were you have to move through life to see content? But what about stuff going on around you? Personalized programmed realities? (Matrix?) Where you might enteract "normally" from someone elses point of view, but you just evaded a dragon back there when you crossed the street and unlocked the next instance when the automatic door opened for the supermarket.

Well, this is quite promising: U.S. Navy will probably field shipborne lasers in less than two years. Apparently, the current prototypes aren't powerful enough to drill a hole into the side of a frigate or destroyer (we have missiles for that), but it might already be sufficient to shoot down low-flying aircrafts, high-speed suicide boats and incoming missiles, like a CIWS Gatling gun. A very attractive feature of this system is that each laser shot could cost as much as $1 - which is something to salivate on, knowing the price of a single RIM-116 RAM missile or a hundred Phalanx CIWS rounds.
In other news, high-tech weaponry is once again making great strides forward with the first live test of an EMP pulse weapon-equipped missile by Boeing. And the prototype is working. One big advantage of this weapon is that it's non-lethal...unless you're carrying a pacemaker. Next thing I know, we'll be talking positron cannons and cruises missiles so smart they can stop and idle at an intersection when the light goes red...
