Where is the love for Ima, Sokoni Iru Boku? Although the romance is more subtle than in some of the titles listed (I'm looking at you, Saikano) it is still present for those who care to look for it. It also features the war element quite heavily, and touches upon some very serious topics.
Also, I'd like to throw Noein - Mou Hitori no Kimi e out there. Don't let the quantum physics stop you from giving this show a try; it's quite a neglected, understated gem (in my opinion). The romance aspect in this title is fairly obvious from the start, but it undergoes several interesting twists and turns before all is said and done.
