Darn, I was hoping for a new opening. It's been awhile since there was one I liked.
It's going to be interesting to see how they'll stretch the time on this arc, no complaints in this episode. Animation was spotty and very noticeable but dialog was good. I'm glad to see the return of some old characters so bring on Punk Hazard! |

Wow, I actually like the pacing on this episode, which is back to canon, I hear.
Well, when I saw the new island, my first thought was that Jewelry Bonney was also caught by Akainu on a flaming island. I went back to episode 513 to verify the scenes, and the islands both have flames, but the hills in the background looks different. They might be two different islands, but if they are the same, I wonder if we might get to see Jewelry Bonney reappear. It is more likely that she was taken to Impel Down, and we may never see her again. Anyway, I hope this arc will have a lot good revelation. I'm guessing Vegapunk probably had a hand in what happened to the island, but then again, this type of island would seem like an extension of Akainu. Also, the island that Smoker left behind with lightning looks like the same island one of the Super Rookies was at in episode 511, where they met that creepy old lady on the small ship. I'm expecting a good battle with Smoker and Tashigi this arc. Again, Zoro and Tashigi should get together, although Perona made a really good impression on Mihawk's island.

Ussop will never change and I love him for that.
Was it just me or did Nami and Robin's chesticles get bigger in this episode? Enjoyed the pacing. Will be great to see how this arc is animated and laid out. Its going to be a fun ride. I thought Dragons already existed in one piece....(luffy's father?)

Yes, this arc will have great revelations, but the best part about it will be two of the characters that have yet to show up...one is just awesome and the other pretty much MAKES this arc beyond awesome.
Anyway guys, remember that dragons are very much creatures of myth in the OP universe only seen in a mini-story one-shot series that Oda drew BEFORE One Piece that happens to be linked to the OP universe (Ryuuma the Samurai became a LEGEND for having killed a dragon). Forget all about Apis and her arc...that was dirty dirty filler that should be locked away ASAP (pretty much the only OP filler I don't like). |

Even bad weather can't stop Luffy.
That guy has weird idea of fun! The emergency call was very interesting. So the crew split up to investigate Punk Hazard. Usopp was totally ROFL with his irrational/very rational fear. That sure was one inferno island. At least things are moving forward.

So we have the samurais now, i totally forgot about Zoro's sword. Lol Usopp hasn't changed at all with this sicknesses. Robin is getting hotter and hotter! So i'm guessing the experiments they were doing went out of control and had to close off the island, but i wonder if the incident has bigger implications.

Man Sanji is going to feel terrible that he didn't go
Interesting episode though. I was wondering about this island until Nami mentioned the cloud formations. Certainly sounds like the showdown location between Aokiji and Akainu. Regardless this island has been really screwed up. I didn't think Zoro's connection to the Samurai was actually going to be touched on. This arc should be a lot of fun.

I didn't say it wouldn't be fun overall. I'm saying that something will happen to Nami that you might find hilarious. And if Nami says that it isn't funny, then I don't find it funny. Just some food for thought.

I think when they arrived Punk Hazard was pretty nice beacuse it is luffys luck to get to island not even shows on the log pose
but i didnt get why is he so supriest to see a dragon he have seen one before i cant rember which episode it was but when they get to the island were it is the little girl and the grampa who tells all the long storys when luffy sneak out and follow the trail of the little girl and into the mounts and when they find the dragon in the mount and then trying to get it home to island but it show it is the island they came from just need to wait to right moment ... so if he seen a dragon why get so shocked |

So in essence, it was a filler arc, so it was not made by the author. Hence, you can erase that arc from your memory when watching One Piece, since it really shouldn't exist in the first place for the storyline.

Indeed, most filler arcs and movies are not made by the author, they pretty much didn't happen in the actual story (the Strong World and Z films are exceptions because they were written by Oda himself who then said they were canon).
This is where being a manga reader (or just well informed) helps, because an anime only watcher may not realize they are watching a filler arc and when the manga adds an element later on it may create a continuity error. And this is what the Apis arc did, it introduced dragons to the viewers (removing the initial surprise of seeing a dragon in for the first time) and it also introduced THE WRONG LOOKING DRAGONS...who look nothing like the one Oda introduced in Punk Hazard. I like filler arcs...but they are pretty dangerous when they mess with a few elements of the story that the author may play with later in his own way. |

Punk Hazzard sure was one inhospitable place.
Of course they had to stumble on a giant dragon. Seems like only Luffy was thrilled by that fact. Nami and rest were found by their own kind of trouble. Zoro was really impressive, but the dragon barbecue was too much LOL
