In no particular order:
EF – A Tale of Memories. Everything about this anime is just… brilliant. The chemistry between both couples was just so fantastically well done, especially Renji and Chihiro. It’s poignant, touching, and just so good! I can’t recommend it enough if you enjoy good romance. Welcome to the NHK – I can’t recommend this anime enough. Welcome the NHK doesn’t shy away from the realities of life; it says “Hey, life isn’t all sunshine and bubblegum, so let’s face it, it can be pretty bleak and depressing” Don’t be fooled, the show may start off as a hilarious comedy but underneath it all the atmosphere is pretty dark and it’s not until the last four episodes that are just heart-wrenching and beautiful moving. The ending was just brilliant. BTOOOM!!! – I’m not a big fan of dark anime, but BTOOOM! exceeded my expectation, especially since the first episode seemed generic. BTOOOM! isn’t afraid to show the darker sides of human nature/life and every character had a very interesting background. Overall I enjoyed it a lot, even with some cliqued/cheesy elements, BTOOOM! is worth watching (if you can stomach the content) and I’m really hoping for a second season. Darker Than Black – Darker Than Black may have a concept that’s been used over 9000 times (basically it’s humans who gained supernatural powers after a strange occurrence appears in Japan) but it comes out fresh and original with very intriguing powers, characters and plot twists. And tie between: Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (My Little Monster)/Lovely Complex – It’s hard to decide between the two of these since they’re both romantic comedies with similar concepts. Both couples are high school students who seem to have a bi-polar relationship where they’re both bickering with each other. I think My Little Monster is slightly better but I’m still going to have call this a tie. Anyway, both anime are awesome. |

1. Spirited Away
I think I was in the second year of elementary school when I first watched this in cinema back in 2001 - it has been my favourite anime ever since, and there is a decent chance it will stay in that position for a very long time if not forever. I really don't know why, but Spirited Away is just kind of special for me. Call it nostalgia or whatever, I don't care! Favourite anime by far! 2. Bakemonogatari I don't remember watching even a single anime in 2009 (even though I had my homestay in Japan that year, ironically, one could say). I discovered Bakemonogatari in 2010, without knowing of the hype it seemed to have gone through. It became an instant favourite - the characters, the dialogues, the humor , the backgrounds, the animation (as a kanjitard, I could even appreciate the flashing text-cuts somehow), ... Everything was just right for me. 3. 5 centimeters per second Really touching. Some people seem to dislike the way it ended, but I can't help but think that the end fit very well. I liked the second short ("cosmonaut") most, because of some personal issues at that time - that "emotional connection" is probably why this is in the Top 5 in the first place. 4. FLCL Randomness all over the place! A thing that I'm very much fond of. This is a pretty recent addition. 5. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei ...and its sequels, although the first season is the best (obviously). Randomness yet again, mixed with Bakemonogatari-esque worldplay, obscure references etc. Honorable mentions: Nichijou, Tatami Galaxy, Toki o kakeru shoujo, Madoka |

My top 5:
1. Monster 2. Ef - a tale of melodies (probably one of the few people who felt that melodies was a better series then memories). 3. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni 4. Anohana (had a though call here between this and Fate/Zero mainly because I already have 5 reserved for ... ) 5. Oreimo (Well I don't think it is as good as the other generally, I personally find it the most entertaining series I have watched before).
