my guess would be:
Aika committed suicide in order to propel the events in the future. Now that Hakaze is back to the past, once she find out about this truth, she will realize she can't do anything. Aika have to die, be it suicide or killed by Hakaze, so as to make the events in the future happen. With no means of communication with the future, im guessing Hakaze will lose the battle and her bones will be placed back in the island(somehow) and none of the guys in the future will know about Aika's true identity.

There is also a possibility of Aika forcing Hakaze into killing her, sort of comitting a suicide. In a way

I absolutely loved the adaptation this time around, they made sure Aika really shined! I absolutely adore her, squeeee! Her brief Sherlock Holmes scene was baffling.
It broke my heart during the last several minutes, especially when Hakaze found Aika, it made me like Hakaze alot more considering I find her annoying to a point. The manga didn't even make me sad or like Hakaze at all, and for the anime to do so is really something for me. I think they actually would be somewhat friends if Aika had lived, you know...not including the fact they love the same guy. Aika > Hakaze; in terms of romance and strength...and alot of other things. This episode answered MOST of the questions. Aika's main motivation is her love towards Yoshino and Mahiro which I find endearing. As for the anime-added scenes I found it a little strange that they had Hakaze walk to Aika right before Aika punched her, since in the manga Aika 'flew' from the top to punch Hakaze when she lost her momentarily cool because of Hakaze making Yoshino cry. They also didn't include the scene where Aika buttons up Hakaze's shirt. WHY? OH, next episode will make Hanemura more....great. If he hones up his skills, he could be Aika-Strong or even surpass her. |

Interesting how Aika and Hakaze were getting along.
So Hanemura is just a replacement Mage of Exodus. So they're stuck in a loop. Maybe the only way to break it is to stop Aika from killing herself. Aika vs Hakaze + all the explanations was interesting. Looks like Hakaze failed miserably. They'll need another way out of this mess.

Good grief! Aika completely stole the show. She outclassed Hakaze in every single category imaginable this episode. If Hakaze is top tier, than Aika is a broken, god-tier character. Remember the scene where she ripped that barrier open with her bare hands? So sexy. Not as awesome as the giant sword she materialized on the roof, but more impressive than the dual-wielding swords. I also love the fact she punched Hakaze instead of slapping her.

It was indeed Aika who kills herself as i have been thinking since the beginning. Like how Aika punched Hakaze for making Yoshino cry. Very interesting of how Aika thought of her relationship with the guys. In the end she takes her own life to save the future of the Mahiro and Yoshino.

wonderful episode,...that insight shows how great people they are all 4 of them, and explains the strength of mahiro & yoshino even without powers. Aika shows what Mahiro & yoshino meant to her, now she's no longer just scary (well she still is with all that power & insight) but now you see the heart behind her actions. yeah I feel Aika & Hakaze would have been great friends (they do share the same taste in men don't they ), but all that's left now is for the remaining three to defeat the ToG, with Aika giving them the much needed push from the past.
anyway it's kinda unfair though to compare Hakaze & Aika's power level since as Aika said it's a limitation put in by the trees themselves.

Aika ended up being Alia Atreides, which does explain why that possibility (suicide) can actually work, plus she's quite the cool customer.
Hakaze dead end up trying to kill Aika, though, but for a completely different set of reasons. Great wrap up to that part of the story, especially the ending bits under the credits. On to the final story arc. |

Wow. Aika Fuwa. BAMF of the year.
I remember in the first half of the series as we speculated she was manipulating everything, and even directed her own death, but it was always under the idea that she was the actual Big Bad. The fact that she did all that without being the Big Bad just makes her that much more ridiculously awesome of a character. Though, to be honest, I'm still sort of hoping she's playing everyone, and even this whole interaction with Hakaze is just a play and she's actually even more layers ahead of everyone than it seems. I don't think she is, but the letter to be given after everything is done, gives me a small bit of hope.

This episode just catapulted Fuwa Aika not only as my favourite character of a show that started in 2012 (sorry Watashi from Humanity has Declined), but as one of my favourite characters of all time.
I mean, I already had a stinking feeling she was the mage of Exodus all along (especially with the bajillion clues in the first half of the series), and that she was going to commit suicide (after all she is the counterpart to Ophelia), but knowing these things didn't take away even an ounce of emotion away from their respective reveals. Yet despite her death's importance, I still can't help but hope that there is some way to save/revive her at the end of the series. I usually despise 'bring back from the dead' endings *cough*certainKeyseries*cough*, since it cheapens the feelings of sadness that came from the tragedy, but man... Aika is such an interesting character with a unique personality, that would literally trade her life for the ones she loves, that I can't help but make and exception for her. Most interesting thing though is that she's so calm and collected about her death... but when she learned someone made Yoshino cry? FALCON PUNCH! Man, she really gave the Princess a really good ass whuppin'. Although the most perplexing thing? The Genesis tree and the Exodus tree are one and the same? Did Aika really say that her power stems directly from the Tree of Genesis? Weird....
