I'm going for the same explanation I gave as to why Touma looks different in Railgun season 1.
This is Misaka Mikoto's story and we are seeing events in her eyes. (Biribiri Vision) Think of it like the movie Rashomon where the characters tell what happened in their perspective. |

I'm fine with the change. I like the idea of making them actually look human here. What kind of weak cloning process are they using that would leave the eyes really weird? Since they are clones I do think having them physically be the same makes sense.

The original point was probably so they looked soulless... of course Last Order never had the large dull eye look with no explanation given for the difference, so I don't think the plot is harmed by changing the sister look. The current design is a good middle ground between the completely normal LO and the original sister look.

I personally like the more-Mikoto-look-alike new version EDIT: Or do you mean "original" as in the Original Mikoto design? Sorry, if that's what you meant ^^U

Random Japanese terminology, these eyes in Japanese otaku lingo are called レイプ目 (pron.: reipu me) (lit.: raped eyes).
Stems from illustrations and artwork that deal with those that are raped have these soul-less, "I've lost the will to live" eyes. OTOH, it doesn't always necessarily have to be rape. It can also mean the character is also blind (PC: visually impaired) like Kawana Misaki from ONE Or the character has gone yandere like Ayase-tan |

By doing this change, JC Staff think they can sell more merchandise, which given the state of otaku in Japan, is unfortunately justified.
“Screw canonicity, we need money.” It's a mantra of everything money touches in this world.

I like the redesign, though personally I think the eyes would look just about right like this:
Maybe even remove the lighter highlight and leave the one underneath. Either way the small brown spot of reflected light gave the clones a little too much life and not enough dead fish. |
