This freaking episode, I just can't believe it, it was atrociously ... great.
There was a significant decent number of sakuga this time, but that alone makes it a better eye candy than the first two episodes. Dear God please, I want the remaining episodes to have this quality. (TwT)

There are many definitions depending on the person, but I'd personally call it "this piece of great animation that makes your eyes come out of your orbits."
Eg : episode 13 is overall horribly animated. However there were a few amazingly well animated scenes in this mess, like when Mikasa slew that Titan near the wall or Eren plugging the wall. Those well animated scenes are what we call "sakuga". Of course it doesn't have to be action scenes, as long as it's beautifully detailed and fluid it's sakuga.

I think it's animation.
Sakuga animation is typically pretty common in anime movies & OVAs, where production values & budgets are higher. But typical anime TV series is pretty rare to be seen. ( I may be wrong though ) |

God damn this episode was so awesomely epic. There were moments that had me clenching with worry but they did a great job on the scene with Reiner at the end. It practically made me grind my teeth before showing what happened next which made me jump for joy when it showed he was still alive
Loved the overall scenes with all 3 of them, I'm glad they focused a lot more on these characters

Then again, it may be that the other explanation is correct, or both. |

Well that was a intense episode that is for sure. I feel like with Reiner at the end there is no real way to tell if it was him healing or the female's blood evaporating, both explanations hold merit from the events that took place if you ask me.
As for the actual animation, I will agree with everyone that this episode was beautifully animated for the most part. I don't honestly think there was a single still in this episode either which has been a first in like ten episodes, granted there was a long loop of animation when Armin, Reiner, and Jean were talking on the horses but still that is much better then a bunch of stills.
