This........THIS WAS THE BEST FUCKING EPISODE YET!!!
I loved it...all the way from Mako and her family growing in power to Ryuko getting the shit beat out of her by an amped up Mako and Satsuki's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO testing them for something. I definitely see that now. Oh Mako...you are now my favorite character out of this series. All I need is a Sensei-centered episode next and I will be happy...

I think I love the non-storyline episodes even more than I like the stuff that moves Ryouko's quest forward. 4 and 7 each flesh out the world around the characters, and are fairly self-contained in a way that I feel could be appreciated by someone who hasn't really followed the story so far.
Some great moments teasing hidden depths to Satsuki. Of course, bancho-Mako was everything I hoped for. I don't think we'll see her in that style of dress again even if she gets a life fiber uniform later on; remember that the nature of the club determines the form a uniform takes, and she was president of the fight club. |

Satsuki is just too awesome. She never loses her composure and has the foresight of a leader. I can see why she looks at Ryuko with such derision. Ryuko obtains the kamui and becomes so much more powerful than anyone else. However, she can't see ahead of herself, and relies on the kamui as a convenient source of power to blow away anyone in her path. Without the kamui, she can't do anything. On the other hand, Satsuki uses the life-fiber uniforms as a way to unite Japan under her banner and change the world.

This smile right here. I know she kind of planned for Ryuko to take down the weaker clubs, but I think there's more to that smile. She seemed satisfied by the outcome. It could be a red herring, but this isn't the first time Mako impressed someone. Gouki said that he'd remember her name back in episode 4, for the lecture she game him. I sure hope Mako will play a bigger role soon. She's my favorite character. |

If you didn't expect it from the writer of Gurren Lagann and Oedo Rocket with the team of the old GAINAX, then where? It might neither be as subtle as in NouKome and Yozakura, nor radical as older anime, but definitely existed in all episodes... when a viewer can think past what the staff is making fun of off.
