What can I say? this episode is literally epic and perfect on every possible way.
Everything started with Puck dealing with Betelgeuse and Subaru breaking apart again, this is something obvious considering what happened on episode 15, then again the same broken Subaru wake up, filled with despair, anger and pain until Rem turned to be the true savior. The scene where Rem talks with Subaru and healed his heart was incredible, jesus this is superb, we were able to see how Rem cured his madness allowing Subaru to finally get his shit together. This idea leads to a simple understanding, all the suffering and pain we saw since episode 1 to 17 helped to develop a whole new Subaru, and one of the biggest details to see that is how he was able to laugh , a true laugh of joy. Leaving aside the fact that Subaru admitted he loves Emilia, Rem is still the best girl and the only person who stay at Subaru's side into de darkness. Yes. Fans who already knew what was going to happen in this episode knew it came down to one line that turned everything on its head. I'm a bit surprised this took a whole episode though. Not that I'm complaining.

Yeah, that was something. This kinda harkens something that happened in Tales of Xillia, where
Spoiler for HEAVY Tales of Xillia spoilers:
Really though, I had a sudden urge to smack the s*** out of him after he blatantly says he's in love with Emilia, after Rem said she loves him and practically saved his entire character >=01. Still, that didn't bother me nearly as much as it would have because the dialogue for the episode as a whole was simply phenomenal! Subaru was basically regurgitating everything we(the viewers) thought about him, and it was nice that he realized his shortcomings all along. Rem is truly precious; she's more the main character in this arc than Emilia has ever been. I hope we continue to see what/if those two can still grow together before the end of the animated series =03.

Indeed. Subaru was pretty decent in staying true to himself and not taking advantage of Rem, unlike many series/protagonists that leaves the runner-ups hanging on till the last episode. It is painful, but I think the series is better for it. Not that this takes anything from Rem's and Subaru's dialogue. I'm really glad the series spent an episode here. It was indeed a good payoff for all the episodes of pain we have gone through... now for the turnaround.

series should be renamed Rem;Zero.
Because she's the true hero of this series. No idea why Subaru is so fixated on Emilia, okay he wants to help/save her okay. But come on, you did not spend that much time with her in arc1 to be so devoted to her like this. He's literally like a baby chicken that latched onto the first waifu he saw. If he was a girl in a gal game, he be a typical capture target.

Thanks for the confirmation. Also sorry to inform you, the show pretty much confirmed (not that if it didn't say it or said it otherwise would have made a difference), that thinking of giving up is stupid and fruitless (early in the episode by Rem), that Subaru is an idiot (his own words), that Subaru wasn't actually suffering from any mental problems other then self inflicted ones (his own words and the final moments with Puck). I think you all might have read your spoilers wrong, or in the novel its different. I guess it's still too early to tell if that was all there was to the "redemption" angle; though it's pretty much a wash already for me. Felt sorry for Rem but the occasional Subaru moments showing all the things that he supposedly did (that in the actual episodes was just him screaming; missing novel material?) mostly sullied the scenes. His charming "I actually like Emilia" at the end was also the cherry on the cake. Let's see what this deus ex machina we get next week is about.

I'd suggest you to just take a step back and take the series for what it is. You know it's getting bad when you are using terms like deus ex machina, but I'm almost sure Zeus won't be coming down to save the day next episode.

The episode was brilliant in a lot of ways. The voice acting by both Kobayashi and Minase at the forefront, really managed to convey the emotions of those scenes, brilliant. And Rem pretty much sealed her spot as the best character in Re:Zero.
Although I have to mention that the last few minutes left a sour taste. First of all with Subaru just blatantly stating that he likes Emilia, which frankly at this stage I consider rather superficial. And second, after all that talk, all that self-depreciation, he talks about becoming the greatest hero ever? The hell? Modesty is not in his vocabulary, huh.

This episode was beautiful. So many tears were shed today . Rem is too precious. Every man needs a girl like her.
Also when Rem started crying when Subaru hugged her at the end of the episode, was Rem crying because Subaru rejected her or because the Subaru she loved the most had come back? I would like to think it was the latter, but it can also be something else entirely.
