HOLY CRAP! That was so good! Now I'm glad I'm an Amazon Prime member... before the addition of Canada to Prime Video just recently, I don't think I've ever seen a Noitamina show on Wednesday evening EST. While I wasn't so keen on The Great Passage, Scum's wish is worth EVERY PENNY seeing it so soon.
Because well, where do I start? I mean, sure technically Hana has known Sensei since childhood, but honestly? I don't care much that Hana is getting it on with Mugi, since for one, Sensei is the one who 'cheated first'. Doesn't help that Sensei has a lot going with the typical dense harem male lead, and I'm not really sympathetic to him or even his relationship to Hana as much as I'd otherwise be. Would be lying if I said I didn't feel giddy at the flashback between Hana and Sensei, but my anger at Sensei seeing him so flirty with other-sensei had me seething too much to actually care at all. For another, I've been told that childhood friend couples is a relationship of convenience, which I do admit is true to an extent. Which of course describes perfectly the relationship between Hana and Mugi. They're even calling each other by first names even before they started dating, and it's only been three months going by July (and JP school starts in April). Honestly one can consider them 'best friends' already, and I personally don't object to their relationship as it has a lot of osananajimi vibes for me. Heck, Hana is even worried that she's not 'good enough' to be a replacement for Mugi, and Mugi is a gentleman never going too far if Hana didn't want it. They really care for the other despite them not having romantic feelings for each other (yet?), and that is something I like to see despite them getting together in a less than conventional way. (If one thing I didn't get, is that why Mugi and Hana didn't go all the way already, when I would otherwise expect them to do so if this is your typical western romance. Then again this is anime, and it is only the first episode, so I'll forgive them for this little transgression. ^^') For the shipper in me that just CRAVES the drama from 'real' love triangles (as compared to 'fake' ones from harems), this is the stuff I like to see in anime. Maybe it's because Rumbling Hearts is one of the earliest anime that I really adored as an adult, and maybe because it's already been a long time since White Album 2 (has it really been 4 years already?), but I've been hungry for a serious romantic drama and this one really fits the bill. I'm already getting foreshadowing vibes with the 'not fall in love with each other' and the 'break up when we find another love' promises... something tells me those aren't going to be easy to keep, and I'm just salivating at all the drama that comes from it. In any case, it's true, I have qualms at how they're going to adapt this fully with only a single cour. That said, it would take a hell of a lot to upseat this as my favourite pilot episode of the cour, and the list is running low already (c'mon CR I want to see Chaos Child already). Thoroughly impressed at not only the story (which I somewhat knew having read like a dozen chapters), but by also the delivery (which while not really animated has this aesthetic that lends well tot he story) and also the acting. Anzai Chika really nailed the part, I'd say. Although lel, Anzai Chika voicing another black haired high school girl, that's totally obsessed with a teacher in her school that she's known since she was a kid? hehehe XD

I am 100% shocked at how good that episode was. it had everything going for it. the animation, the music, the emotions all came across in the best way possible. add on top of that them actually animating (very well) the sensual portions of the story and you've got a winner.

Just saw the episode and holy s**t this was incredibly good and well done. I mean the manga is pretty much garbage and the story isn't great at all, plus the pacing is slow as hell but this adaptation just make all of those bad points meaningless.
The animation was great, you can even see the expression of the characters and the emotions they're trying convey. The music was just perfect for every single bit of the episode. What I think it was the best thing is how the adaptation is managing the story in a very good pacing, faster than the manga and more likeable for sure without rushing things too much. If only the story wasn't just a huge pile of NTR crap and bullshit everywhere this can be perfect (the episode showed exactly this). |

I love watching horrible people and it seems like this series is literally full of it. I can't wait for next episode. The animation and the music are pretty nice as well. They even almost had a mutual masturbation scene.
Edit: what's with the ending heavily resembling an o Keefe painting. Vaginas everywhere zzz. Last edited by IceHism; 2017-01-12 at 09:49. |

Of course I need read more series. That's go without saying. But after 20 years of reading various literature (including classic one) as well as japanese manga and light novels I do think I have what to say in that regard. I wouldn't be surprised if I dropped more series than you even read yourself.
Well, if nothing else I tried and dropped every single show/novel that you appreciate enough to be in it's social group, that's incidentally the fact.

Episode 01
Hana likes a sensei whom she knew from her childhood and Mugi likes a sensei who was his teacher once upon a time. But both senseis like each other and the two kids don't like that. So they're dating each other with the other being a mere replacement. And they went so close to having sex. I did not expect that right in the nekoing first episode. A shame they couldn't make it all the way. But oh well, they might get a chance later on or something. The visuals were very good. Really like the character designs. The OP and ED, plus that ending sequence. Good stuff. Especially that ending sequence lol. This was a well done episode. I'm not that fond of the story this has going, but this episode was done pretty nicely so I'm gonna stick around. Also curious where those other girls enter the story. And I think there's some lesbian here too given a girl was kissing the main girl in the opening sequence. Gotta check that out. |

Alright then, I can understand that much. Well I hope I did make point regardless ( I actually keep with Index myself, though I always catch with it only when I am really desperate to read something at least bit decent and can't find anything else among all that junk out there...).

Well this was dramatic.
OP song is alright, quite melancholic. We got introduction of the main characters and there's some obvious romance flowing in the air. Sanae is more amusing than I had thought to watch. There's quite a bit of human feelings poured into the narratives and I found this surprisingly realistic. They obviously had to censor our some content though so maybe BDs will contain the more lewd parts. Not bad for the start, I'm actually quite impressed. Pretty sure the show will have 11 episodes. (standard Noitamina style)
