1. Forget FCF.
2. Equip jet if you have. They grant damage multiplier on top of the dive bomber one.

9. You should consider equipping Kitakami for TCI.
10. You should consider replacing Bismarck or Ooi with Nachi.

I don't have Nachi.
My Kasumi isn't luck modded though. Will DA deal enough damage with the ammo penalty? Also 37 base luck enough to gamble for TCI? Speaking of which my Kitakami is base luck too.

Replace Bismarck's AP shell with searchlight.
Depends on how well (bad, to be precise) this go, you may still need to gamble with a CI Kitakami.
Drop your AP target to 400. You are going through node K instead of N, right?
Long story short, despite Hatsushimo K2 HP is a point higher than Kasumi K2, Kasumi has a better chance of surviving a very high damage shot without being taiha.
And to be frank, I don't think you're prepared for hard difficulty. Too many ships and equipment are missing.

I'm going through node N(No one seems to go K ever, even with Kidou). The TAs look less threatening than the BB Hime which can hit me quite hard.

I used this test fleet to try(didn't see Academus latest post yet). Prinz was sniped but Kitakami did it.

Kidou was the way to go..... I've wasted 40k fuel using Suijou and didn't managed to reach boss.

Time to start clearing quests and upgrading equips so I'm more prepared for next event.

There isn't really any special equipment to upgrade. On top of my head:

Large caliber guns: Prototype 35.6cm, Prototype 41cm, 16inch, 51cm

Medium caliber: 20.3cm type 3

Small caliber: 10cm + FD

Secondary/AA: OTO, 90mm

Torpedoes: Sextuple prototype, Quintuple Oxygen, Triple Oxyygen (serviceable if you reach dmg cap and need additional armor. Relevant for CA)

Fighters: Type 53 Iwamoto, T21 Veteran, T52 Veteran

Seaplanes: Night scout, Type 2 seaplane fighter. T2 veteran is also an option, although Kyofuu kai is cheaper.

Radars/Sonar: Type 13 kai, Type 3/4 Sonars (note: I don't bother with any other radar because the only AA radar I ever use are either T13 kai for DD or FUMO for Maya/Kasumi. Surface Radar are primarily used for expeditions, which don't benefit from modding at all)

Misc: Type91/Type 1 Shells, Ka-mi Tank

Yea but if I went Kidou earlier, I'd have saved at least 20k fuel.......

I decide to have faith in RNG that I can pass troll subs but my retreat rate was still 70%

After 50k down with no progress, I went with Kidou and it proved to be a better choice. 98% boss rate with everyone green.

I'll never put my faith in RNG ever again in regards to evasion from troll subs.

EDIT: What's the best recipe for Taihou? I'm still lacking it before I finish my LSC.

I've seen many people using 4/2/5/5.2/1 but wikiwki lists all as 20 dev mats....

What are the odds of getting her with 1 dev mat?

Tier 1 (Critical): Iwamoto Zero 53, 10cm+, 91AP, 16", P35.6cm, T3/T4 sonar, 20.3cm #3, Sex/Quint torp

Tier 2 (Essential): P41cm, Zero 21 Skilled, 90mm, 13K air radar, T3 depth charge, OTO

Tier 3 (Nice to have): Jet Keiun, 381mm/50 Kai, 38cm Kai, 21K air radar, seaplanes, daihatsu/tank (essential if lack of WG42)

Keep up to speed with new Kai 2.

Right now, there isn't any decent incentive to do so.
I've modded 2 to max for sake of "completition" and noticed an accuracy boost with Yahagi equipped with both, but that alone doesn't really make it worth all the screws to upgrade a 15.2 to a 15.2 kai + extra mods, moreso when OTO is way cheaper and give enough accuracy for that.

Alternatively, you can just forgo the accuracy bonus and go with 20.3cm type 3 on them.

These guns would need an additional FP bonus and/or some new mechanics with CL to justify their use over OTO/20.3 3

It's more accurate to say that these are the Prototype 41cm Triple Guns without the sandbags, since the sandbags are usually placed over the steel fences already in place.

So this makes this 10 Hard clears so far, though I have to admit, I'm close to hitting my threshold on how much equipment I have to get ready just to be "optimized" for a Hard Clear. Made doubly harder as I don't have time to go out completing everything that gives out screws for +7 or +10 upgraded equipment. And although I was able to clear with the equipment I DID have, I had to do some equipment juggling just to be able to meet some LOS requirements.

People talking about fully upgraded Sextuple torps? +7 Kyofuu? +10 Night Planes? All crazy talk to me.

Except for the first three sorties, which were for getting the S-rank at node C, the subsequent sorties were all conducted with CTF. The fleet that I used for most of E5 is as follows:

Akatsuki were swapped for Ayanami K2 with TCI setup immediately after this image was taken, as I had reckoned that I should gamble for more cut-ins. Surprisingly, the thought of using Yukikaze didn't cross my mind, even though Ayanami has not been luck-modded yet. This setup served me well for the BB Princess round (3 sorties).

At the Northern Water Princess round, Warspite was swapped for Yamashiro K2 (41cm (9★) + Proto 41cm (6★) + Type 2 Seaplane Fighter Kai (max★, <<) + Zuiun T12 (<<)) after the first sortie. The ladies had taken a rather hard knock at node F and I thought it might be good to get more air power. This would be the arrangement I took to the boss node, five times consecutively including with two clean boss kills.

The first time I attempted last dance with this fleet resulted in a C-rank and I thought more dakka is in order. Maya, Yamashiro and Ayanami was then swapped out for Nagato K, Musashi and Bep (to replace Maya as the AACI member and also for her damage bonus), and ironically, a couple of Reppus were changed for dive bombers for more damage at the boss node:

The first sortie after the roster change ended in F again, no thanks to the Ta-class and closing torps. The second run was much better, arriving at the boss node with relatively no damage. Day battle ended with only two casualties with medium damage (both Cranes, much to my amusement) on my side; on the enemy side, only the Water Princess remained and at medium damage. ABKM took a good chunk of what's left with a TCI and Nachi sealed the deal with a DA.

On hindsight, I might probably have gotten though even if I kept my original setup. What could have tipped the scales in my favour may be me sending all three LBAs to the boss node instead of the original two-for-boss, one-for-air-raids deployment. While they didn't do much by themselves, they did contribute to reducing the number of trash I would have to deal with.

BTW I came across this titbit in the Chinese forums, not sure if folks here know about it already. For CTF and STF, a BB can be added to the second fleet if her speed is at least Fast+:

Not that this would be helpful though. In the examples above, Musashi had to waste three slots for turbines and stuff to meet the speed requirement. But at least we now know that the 2nd fleet checks for speed instead of ship class when accepting BBs.

No, it's not photoshopped. I took those screenshots myself, at the arsenal (aka changing equipment). The crane does appear on whichever character we click and I don't know how you could have mistaken this for the dock .___.
