Volume 85 is out, so you know what that means! Credit goes to AP's Sandman for summarizing the SBS info:

-A reader points out that there were characters who resembled Charlotte Opera in chapter 845. Oda explains that those are his siblings, as Opera one of five quintuplets. Interestingly, Oda goes into further detail about Big Mom and her offspring: Big Mom herself is 68 YEARS OLD, and had given birth to children about every year for 42 years. Also, the record for the most children she gave birth to at once is TEN. Said decuplets are all 18 years old at this point in time.

-Someone actually asks how Doflamingo looks without his shades, but Oda replies that the instant the glasses come off, another pair will instantly appear in its place, lol.

-A fan points out how Oda said Zoro doesn't eat ice in a previous SBS, yet he was seen eating it in chapter 701. Oda says that may not necessarily have been Zoro...

-A few new character birthdays:

Inuarashi: October 11th
Sora (the fictional marine hero from that comic with the Vinsmokes as villains): July 9th
Pandaman February 29th

-Someone asks why Big Mom addresses herself with the male pronoun "おれ" (read as "ore"). Oda says that long ago, it was common for women to use that pronoun, and is actually still a common occurrence in some areas of Japan today.

-Gonna quote Sandman for this one:

Question: Who is the fastest crewmate when they run 50-meter race?

Oda: It's hard to answer..

- Brook is fast since his body weight is light.
- Chopper would be ranked higher if he uses Walk Point. (another translation: Chopper is ranked high because he can use Walk Point.)

- Franky is ranked low since he is heavy.

-Someone asks why Sanji doesn't go heart-eyes over Reiju. Naturally, Oda answers it's because they're siblings. (Sorry, incest fans!)

-Pudding was indeed the girl from chapter 651. Also, the minks eat birds, reptiles, and amphibians, but not animals with hair.

-Someone asks how they can become a Jump editor. Oda says that most of them are perverts (lol), but it's possible to become one after graduating from a 4-year college. Oda concludes by saying he hopes the reader becomes a future editor (without becoming perverted in the process ).


Well, that does it for the relevant info. I found that info about Big Mom's age and her child-rearing particularly interesting, though this seems to mean that her oldest children are in their forties (which is odd, considering that some of them like Brulee actually look older than Linlin herself, lol). Well, until the next SBS!

I thought Big Mom would be older than that, given that she can steal people's lifespan and has hundreds of children, some of them looking quite old as you pointed out.

The first Big Mom children were just becoming adults at the time of Gol D. Roger reading the BM's Road Poneglyph. Doubt the kids could be counted much of a fighting force at that time.

So the first 25 years she forged herself (btw who is the youngest known mother?). Katakuri and Prosperos (2nd and 1st son) don't seem to share the same father. I wonder if she used the 'Sex or Life'-question often in the beginning, or wether it was already attractive enough to bond with her pirate crew. With the consuctive birth giving and changing fathers, it looks like she planned to abuse that from the beginning for the last 42 years.

It hints at a lot, but confirms not much to BMs past. Guess we won't get around some flashbacks.

Time for a bump!

This is something I've been meaning to post for a while, but I didn't have enough time until now. So, without further ado:

In commemoration of OP's 20th anniversary, several special projects are underway! One such project is a series of "One Piece Magazines", books that contain lots of neat stuff such as interviews, some exclusive comics/drawings from Oda, a novel that focuses on Ace's pirating history, and much more! The first volume of the magazine was released rather recently (July 7th). Let's check out some of its contents, shall we? Big credit goes to AP's Sandman for most of this compiled info:

-First off, here's a summary of Oda's big interview that was featured in the mag, as summarized by Sandman:

- Oda enjoys talking with young assistants since they are familiar with trends.

- Oda loves film and documentaries. He analyzes why people enjoy each film.

- Oda himself doesn't know much about recent games. Instead, he tells his assistants to feel free to spend Oda's studio's money on buying new games

- Oda prefers collecting information to sleeping. He says he even wants to become a robot who doesn't need sleep.

- Oda takes care of his neck and back and via chiropractic .

- Oda is very confident that he will not die from overwork since he doesn't feel stressed at least when he is drawing manga. Oda also says he feels exhausted when there are many works other than manga.

- Oda has never experienced a callus caused by too much drawings.

- Oda tells his editors that he will take care of their family if the editor is down from illness or injury due to overwork.

- Oda has been encouraging victims from earthquakes via drawing illustrations, but at the same time, he feels it might be meaningless if the victims are hungry.

- Oda sometimes skips drawing trivial stuffs (ex. Pandaman) these days since his eyesight is getting weaker.

- Oda needs to consult his notebooks about the details of ONE PIECE world.

- Oda is glad that Shueisha allows him to take more breaks these days. He goes to foreign countries (Singapore, Hawaii, Guam etc) at least once in a year.

- Oda wants to go on a round-the-world trip when ONE PIECE is finished. He says he'd like to visit Asian countries such as India. He also says that he wants to take a break during his serialization to visit world heritages which require physical strength to go. He wants to visit various countries by 50 years old.

- What Oda wants most now is Floating Seahorse in Dubai since he can see fish outside the window.

Spoiler:

- Oda has a longing for sea and snow since his childhood because he lived in south mountain areas in Japan.

- Oda enjoys watching both old and new films, but he usually watches new films in order to catch up with the trends unless there is much free time.

- When asked if he is afraid that he can't come up with ideas about ONE PIECE some day in the future,
Oda denies and says he is confident that he can produce good ideas via final push near a deadline for chapters.
Oda appreciates deadlines since he considers he would not be able to draw an interesting manga if he had so much time to prepare.

- Many staffs are involved in ONE PIECE industry, but Oda himself doesn't feel pressured at all.
He says there is no responsibility for him about ONE PIECE other than manga although for example he has been getting along well with anime staffs.
Oda says it would not have a large impact even if ONE PIECE comes to an end due to his health.

- Oda considers manga is basically helpless in that it can't be of help for people who suffer from a large disaster.
Oda says manga doesn't produce food, house and clothes. (Oda has made drawings for the victims for large earthquakes in Japan.)

- When Oda was in his 20s, he thought he should spend time on manga rather than attending his parent's funeral even if they die.
Oda now calls it a crazy idea, but at the same time, he says this excessive seriousness toward manga made what ONE PIECE is today.

- Oda wants to entertain people ever since his childhood. He says he is happy to see others delighted.

- Oda says now that ONE PIECE is already the best manga in terms of volume sales he is wondering what to aim for next.
He also says he has already experienced most of what other popular manga artists have done in the past (anime, games etc?). Oda says he needs a big goal.

- Oda supports his assistants so that their mangas will become popular.

- ONE PIECE has more characters than before. He has to cram much information into one chapter to move forward with the story.
Oda says he would be able to draw really impressive fight scenes only if he could keep drawing the fight scene for 2 chapters in a row.
He feels ONE PIECE can now spend only 1 chapter at most on a fight scene.

- When asked where he wants to visit most, Oda laughs and says he doesn't want to visit space since it would be too dangerous.

- Oda is interested in diving since his wife loves it, but he is scared of sharks. (The restroom in Oda studio is full of sharks, though. lol)

-The magazine also contains its own "Super SBS" section! However, Oda himself doesn't provide info here. Rather, it's four of his editors talking about him instead. Once again, credit goes to Sandman for the summary:

Here is my brief summary for Super SBS in ONE PIECE Magazine volume 1. Four editors talk about Oda in this section.

- Oda pretends to be a heavy drinker these days. He orders strong Japanese sake boldly, but he drinks only a small cup of sake. After that, he keeps drinking coke.

- Oda is obsessed with internet shopping. He shows off the items to his editor happily.

- Oda sometimes tells a joke to his editor via phone, like "I'm in Hawaii". They keep talking for a while as if Oda is actually in Hawaii. lol

- Editor says that ONE PIECE editor should make up his mind to spend his 24 hours per day and 365 days per year on ONE PIECE.

- Oda offered to his editor that he will take care of his family if the editor gave up working due to illness or injury from overwork.

- Oda is so concentrated while drawing manga that editor can't even ask him if his work is going well.

- Editor Habuta says Oda has a very nice personality. Stamp creator Kanahei on "LINE" app says in OP magazine that he was fascinated with Oda's bright personality when he first met Oda.
Kanahei says he felt as if he became Bartolomeo.

- Editor Hattori says he has been a big fan of ONE PIECE other than the time when he was ONE PIECE editor.
He felt so stressed every week as he was dying and said ONE PIECE was something like a demon for him at that time.

- Editor Sugita recalls he aged rapidly in only one week while waiting for Oda's manuscripts for final battles in Dressrosa arc.
Oda submitted his storyboard one day after the deadline..

- Editor Hattori says he was frequently stuck inside Oda's studio for more than 24 hours.
He got to be able to sing the songs played in Oda's studio perfectly without buying them.

- Oda told his current editor Naito about the detail of Big Mom's backstory and Wano arc via phone. The editor says he felt as if Oda were a minstrel as an excellent storyteller.

- Question: When did you feel happiest as ONE PIECE editor?
Habuta: Oda made a special drawing to celebrate my daughter's birthday.

Sugita: I have been respecting Oda since my childhood. As I worked with him as an editor, Oda's personality turned out to be exactly the same as I imagined from reading his comments for SBS.
His personality is far from being two-faced. I was really glad to realize it as one of ONE PIECE fans.
Hattori: I felt happy when I witnessed many people reading ONE PIECE in Jump and volume on a train on release dates.

-Next up is the exclusive comic Oda drew for the magazine: Basically, it's a "what-if" comic where Sabo shows up at Marineford to save Ace from certain doom. The comic is split into three parts (one double-page spread for each of the OP magazine volumes). So, here's part 1:

-Next up, let's focus on the Ace novel! No, Oda didn't write the story, but it's considered official and he WAS consulted by the writer, so it could probably be considered canon. Now, let's take a peek at the cover, which was drawn by Katsuya Terada:

Particularly interesting about this novel is that it isn't told from Ace's perspective, but from the perspective of the first mate of the Spade Pirates, a fellow known as Masked Deuce, who Oda even drew a design for:

^It should be noted that "Deuce" isn't his actual name, but an alias. Turns out he's pretty adamant about keeping his identity a secret (even from Ace), so the marines don't know his true face under that mask. Here's Sandman's summary of the first chapter, which explains how the Spade Pirates were established (among other things):

A guy has been eager to write an adventure essay like "Brag Men" (seen in Ohara). He is now incapable of escaping from a too beautiful desert island called "SIXIS" located in East Blue.
The current around the island is pretty irregular that nobody can escape.

When he is talking to a skeleton next to him, he finds that someone else joining the conversation without realizing it. This is the first moment when "he" and Ace talk.
Ace says politely, "Nice to meet you." The man thinks Ace is about the same age as him.
He considers Ace comes to the island to rescue him, but the fact is that Ace is also a victim due to his ship wrecked.
The man is annoyed that Ace is smiling cheerfully in spite of this predicaments.
The man has spent 3 days on the island, whereas Ace 6 days. Ace says, "How about creating a raft with me?"

Both Ace and the guy are seeking for a treasure which is said to be hidden in the island.
Ace keep asking the man about his name, but the man doesn't want to tell him about it since he has already thrown away his own name on the day he set out to ocean.
Ace says, "We are already friends, right?" (exactly the same words when Luffy invited Usopp to Going Merry). The man tries introducing his pen name as "Ace" borrowing Ace's name,
but Ace prevents and suggests him to make his pen name Deuce since he thinks the pronunciations are similar.
The man doesn't feel bad since the meaning of Deuce being "bad luck" fits into his current situation.
Ace decides to call him "Masked Deuce" since the guy wears a mask so that Marine don't notice his face.

Deuce was a medical student with bad grades. His parents are indifferent to him. He just wants to have an adventure and doesn't want to be a wanted man.
Ace and Deuce talk about their family. Ace mentions Luffy in the talk with smile. Deuce happens to say, "If someone's father were Roger, I'm sure he'd rather die."
Ace suddenly becomes quiet and shows a very serious facial expressions, which makes Deuce realize that Ace is the real son of Pirate King.
Deuce walks off with mixed feelings, telling Ace not to talk to him anymore.

Several days passes. Ace fails to escape from the island with his ship wrecked. "I can't die in such a place...!"
He is not in a positive mood anymore. Deuce tries to find food and water, but in vain.

One day, Deuce finds Ace grabbing a large fruit in his hand on a beach.
Deuce is hungry and comes to the conclusion that there is no problem even if he kills Ace since Ace is a son of a legendary criminal.
Right before he attacks Ace with a tree branch, Deuce's stomach growls. Ace notices him and considers that Deuce comes to help him make a boat.
Ace offers him to eat the fruit, but Deuce rejects it due to the feeling of guilty for trying to kill him.

Deuce finally realizes that Ace is a nice person despite him being the son of Pirate King. As a result, they decide to share the fruit.
Deuce feels it is the most terrible -but delicious at the same time- food that he has ever eaten. Deuce turns around and finds Ace burning!
Both of them are surprised at Ace's burning body. The fruit they ate is Mera Mera no mi.

After several days, Ace is capable of controlling his fire. Deuce calls the ship "Striker" which moves forward by rotating plates with the help of fire.
Deuce says it was a fake rumor that a treasure is hidden in the island. Ace answers with a smile, "Not sure.."
Ace reaches his hand toward Deuce and says, "You'll come with me, right?" Deuce replies, "I can write a good adventure essay with you."
They shake hands tightly. Ace declares, "I'm gonna go beyond Pirate King!" Thus, Spade Pirates was born.

-This actually isn't related to the SBS, but it's definitely noteworthy: Oda changed the class of Charlotte Katakuri's DF! As many may know, his mochi fruit was originally classified as a Logia..... but this time around, it was changed to a Paramecia! In fact, it's specifically pointed out as being a "Special" Paramecia!

-Someone asks if a cat pirate from Hawkins' crew is a mink. Oda confirms it, saying that his name is Faust, and he's even a magician.

-Oda confirms that people of the snake-neck race live in Totland. In fact, two of Big Mom's children are snake-necks! The children in question, 34th son Mascarpone and 29th daughter Joscarpone are close twins.

-Speaking of the unique races, it's pointed out that the long-legs have a habit of decorating their legs with tattoos, such as Blue Gilly and Charlotte Smoothie. Tamago doesn't seem to adhere to that trend, though.

-The bento Sanji had prepared for Pudding was, interestingly enough, arranged with the favorite foods of the Straw-Hats, showing that he was still thinking of them when making it! It also includes the previously-unrevealed favorite meal of Brooke's, which is curry.

-Someone asks if the den den mushis have a "silent" mode. Oda replies that it depends on how they're trained, since they're still living creatures.

-Someone asks if Zepo from Pedro's flashback in chapter 850 is indeed Bepo's older brother. Oda confirms that is indeed the case, and even gives some brief exposition about the history of Pedro's old crew, the Nox pirates (translation courtesy of Oro Jackson's Zoro4Prez2016):

O: They do resemble each other! That's correct. Pedro led the Nox Expedition party who were chased by the government for searching for poneglyphs, thus they became the Nox Pirates. That's a story from about 15 years ago. Bepo loved his older brother Zepo, and when he climbed down Zou to get a view of the sea, he was swept away. One thing led to another, and he found his way to the North Blue. He then met Law. Meanwhile, the Nox Pirates were wounded and had morale issues, so Pekoms lead the others who couldn't continue their journey, leaving just Pedro and Zepo. And then Pekoms and the others arrived in Big Mom's territory. There their lives were saved, and they entered her care. Pedro and Zepo, who continued searching for poneglyph, eventually set their sights on Big Mom's poneglyph 5 years later, and by coincidence Pedro and Pekoms came face to face once again.

My apologies for the delay, but here's that summary of the second OP Magazine! Once again, credit goes to AP's Sandman for much of the info:

-First off, let's start with the interview!

- After becoming a mangaka, Oda noticed that his imagination ability of creating various stories is based on Rakugo, Japanese verbal entertainment.

- Oda has been enjoying Rakugo ever since he was in elementary school. When Oda's friends in junior high school came to his house,
he played a cassette tape of Rakugo to entertain them, but all of them got bored in 5 minutes.

- Oda started listening to Rakugo since his parents enjoyed Rakugo via cassette tapes. On the other hand, his elder sister didn't get attracted to it.
He even listened to Rakugo right before sleeping. Oda remembers he was an elementary school kid who fell into asleep thanks to middle-aged man's voice.lol

- When Oda was around 12/13 years old, he was very glad that his parents kindly bought a ticket for Rakugo show in Kumamoto for his birthday present.

- Oda meets Kosanji Yanagiya, one of the best Rakugo performer, once a year in Studio Ghibli. Toshio Suzuki, producer of Ghibli, invites Oda to his Rakugo event every year.

- Oda believes he has never run out of ideas about ONE PIECE story because he knows a lot about classic Rakugo/film/Jidaigeki which survived the test of time.

- Oda devoted himself to watching films in high school/college days. He watched 3 films per day. He got bored with current films soon and started focusing on classics.

- Oda thinks perhaps the sound effect "Don!!" (ドン!!) in ONE PIECE is based on actors' overacting in classic Jidaigeki.
Oda says he wants his audience to pay attention to the "Don!!" panel.

- Oda considers a good sense of rhythm about words is important when creating sentences in ONE PIECE although he doesn't read many books.
Oda sometimes keeps in mind that he should write sentences in 5-7-5 Japanese traditional poetic Haiku form.

- The person Oda wants to meet most now is Quentin Tarantino. Oda also says that he has already met most of the people whom he wants to.

- Oda at the age of 3-6 resolved to become a mangaka since he can make a living via drawing manga every day.

- Oda thought he would easily become the best mangaka since he had been confident of his drawing technique, but
he noticed that he needed to learn creating an interesting story when he was around 17 years old.

- Oda was not convinced when his art teacher in junior high school didn't give the best grade to his good Toriyama-ish dragon drawing.
Oda says he thought there was no difference between manga and art.

- Before Oda became a professional mangaka, his editor often advised him to create well-defined manga characters.
Some people even criticized that Luffy in "Romance Dawn" (prototype for ONE PIECE) didn't seem to move on its own.
Oda says that himself didn't fully grasp the personality of Luffy at that time.

- Oda remembers he was a rude person without knowing it before his debut as a professional mangaka.
He talked to a legendary mangaka (HIroshi Motomiya) too casually in a party, which made staffs upset.

- Oda keeps in mind that he should make funny and casual comments in SBS. Oda in childhood had read mangaka talking about their hardships in
creating manga in author's comments. He made up his mind that he wouldn't write such a comment since [he considers audience wouldn't understand it
no matter how mangaka talks about their hardships in detail.

- Bandai company plans to sell OP goods based on SBS drawings of gender-bent/childhood characters although Oda just wants to draw them just for fun.

- Oda says he'd like to keep being "a friendly funny guy in neighborhood" for kids who feels free to answer their requests to make drawings in SBS.
Oda also says his drawings are not something very valuable. He says he is not a kind of mangaka who considers himself, "Even one line drawn by me can make much money!"

- Oda "Be sure to look forward to Wano country. I refrain from revealing when I draw it, though."

- Oda "There are tons of new characters I want to draw in Wano arc. Characters in ONE PIECE fight mostly on land despite them being pirates.
I'd like to draw some event scenes on the sea which reminds us that they are pirates. Maybe I'll change my mind, though (laugh)"

- When Kuma was introduced for the first time in 2002, Oda told one of his assistants that Kuma would cause the separation of Straw Hats in the future. It came true in 2008.

- The drawings of Amaru Enel are based on a elephant.

Deuce believes if someone wants to be a good captain he should be loved by many people. In this regard, Ace is a well-deserved captain.
He welcomes many crewmates who have no other place to go.

A beard guy tries to attack Ace. He shouts, "Ace! I love you!!". Actually he is a bounty hunter and loves Ace because his head would bring him much money. Deuce kicks him out.

Many bounty hunters rush into Spade Pirate ship. They asked for help that their ship was in trouble. They took advantage of Spade Pirates' kindness.
Ace sighs and attacks them via Fire Fist. "Those rascals don't know good manners...!!"
Ace can now control of Mera Mera ability although he was recently about to burn Deuce's coat accidentally .

Another enemy tries to make a sneak attack at Deuce, but the enemy dropped his sword due to the snipe shot by Miharl.
Miharl says, "Be careful, Deuce-san". He worked as a teacher and wants to help kids who can't have enough education. Ace took him out to sea and gives support.

Miharl says, "Rude guests should be educated.. I can't read books calmly with enemies on our ship".
He wears a silk hat and glasses. He is a strong fighter as opposed to his appearance.
Miharl doesn't like outdoor activities. Even when his crewmates go shopping, he is in the ship to read books. This is why his epithet is "Indoor".

Ace's crewmate named Skull praises a bounty hunter who has a pistol with skull decoration. Skull knows the structure of that pistol well and makes it jammed easily.
He takes it from the enemy and decides to display in his room. He has many skull-shaped accessories. Skull is a collector of pirates goods.
He considers himself as a pirates enthusiast, not pirate itself. He loves pirates so much that he went so far as to sneak into pirate ships many times.
He hides his own face by a skull mask. Most pirates thought Skull was no use, but Ace highly evaluates him since Skull has a lot of experience and knowledge about pirates.
He has been appreciating Ace for it.

Deuce, Miharl and Skull are the brain for Spade Pirates. Other crewmates are mostly combatants. They instantly defeat all bounty hunters.
Ace shouts, "Go away right away with your comrades who lost consciousness!!"

A lynx cat threatens them by hissing. He is called Kotatsu (TN: If you image-search on google with "kotatsu cat", you'll see the connection between kotatsu and cats.)
Ace saved him who got injured by poachers' trap. Kotatsu's personality had been coward since he was forced to work in a freak show, but after joining Spade Pirates,
he is getting courageous. His voice except hissing is cute. Kotatsu loves to be with Ace since it is warm around him who ate Mera Mera devil fruit.

All crewmates in Spade Pirates had no other place to go until they met Ace. According to Deuce, Ace judges people by their personality, not races or appearances.

Ace declares a party. He complains to Deuce that the number of bounty hunters who try to kill him is increasing.
Kotatsu notices many warships are approaching. Deuce plans to escape from the warships by leading them to rock reef areas.

A young female marine with a rapier suddenly appears on Spade Pirates ship.
"Your ship is great, isn't it? Sorry to disappoint you, but your journey ends here." There is a burn scar on the back of her hand.
She easily protects herself from the snipe shot from Miharl with her rapier. Deuce steps back and says, "She is a monster..."

Skull instantly notices that she is Isca "the nailing". Scull explains that the epithet is based on her fighting style to
make her opponents full of holes precisely by the rapier like nailing. Ace says, "That's scary" and steps forward. He isn't afraid of her at all despite his words.

Isca says in strong voice, "I'm Second Lieutenant Isca! You're under arrest!" Ace tells her that
he imagined she would be a middle-aged shipwright man with robust body judging from her epithet.
He shows a serious facial expression and makes a joke, "Your name sounds like a bird, don't you?" (TN: Isca means "red crossbill bird" in Japanese.)

Ace: "Can you slash me with such a weapon?" He turns his body into fire.
Isca: I'll make you full of holes if you want!

Ace is surprised at her sword speed. "Captain Ace! Let's support him, guys!" Many crewmates surround her, but they can't hurt her at all.

Isca: Don't move, Fire Fist! Stop futile resistance and surrender to me!
Ace: It means I'm allowed to make effective resistance, right?

Ace easily avoids her attacks. Suddenly, many warships surround Spade pirates ship. Actually Isca came alone to the ship to buy time for them.
Isca says to Ace, "You're done" and aims her rapier at him.

Screaming voices are heard from one of the warships. It means Deuce's plan succeeded. The warship is sinking.
Deuce says, "Honestly, I wish they had given up chasing us before this accident happens..."

Isca sheathes her rapier. Ace asks, "Are you gonna escape?" Isca replies, "Idiot! I'll just go to help my colleagues!"
She jumps into the sea without hesitation. After saving many marines, Isca is about to be drowned due to a big wave.
Ace stares at her for a while and throws a life preserver without saying any words.

Isca: Why do you save me!!
Ace replies bluntly, "Not sure."
Isca: Fire Fist! I'll catch you next time and make you regret that you saved my life!!

After a while, Ace says in a small voice, "She is a nice person..." Deuce complains that such a strong marine like Isca will chase them from now on.
Ace laughs, "But it'd be better than getting chased by those squalid beard guys, right?" Deuce agrees. Ace declares, "Now let's start our party again!"

Journey continues. Spade Pirates are right before New World now. They are getting bigger and consist of 20 crewmates and a lynx cat.
Not only Ace but also other crewmates have become famous among pirates. Ace defeated many famous pirates in a short period of time.

Ace is disappointed that they need to wait for at least 3 days until ship coating is finished, but he looks happy at the news that foods in Sabaody Archipelago are delicious.
Deuce writes down his impression of the fantastic Sabaody sights. His crewmates secretly read it and laughs at his poor writing skill.
Deuce jokingly makes up his mind that he will never mention their names in his adventure diary.

On a related note, we actually saw some of these Spade pirates in past chapters, specifically during the Marineford arc! Skull was seen fighting alongside the WB pirates during the war:

Thanks for relaying the info to us as usual. Oda is a fan of rakugo, huh! Based on what little I know about rakugo (basically just the stories I've heard in the Showa genroku rakugo shinjuu anime), I guess I can see traces of that in his writing, particularly when it comes to comedy.

The Ace novel sounds interesting, I hope it will get (properly) animated one day.

Well, what with there being no chapter this week, what better time is there than now to focus on the info from the third and final OP Magazine? Once more, credit goes to AP's Sandman for summarizing much of the info:

Oda: Thank you so much for reading this bonus manga. Actually it's not that I want you to read this story in detail. The production team for ONE PIECE Magazine made a request to me,
"Would it be possible for you to draw a bonus manga which handles "IF" story in which Luffy, Ace and Sabo grow up and have an adventure together?"

I replied to them, "Such a world can't exist considering all three of them want to be a captain".
"If it ever existed, Luffy's personality would be a bit different from what he is now since he would not meet current Straw Hats."
This means collapse of ONE PIECE world. There is no way!!

That being said, I understand that many audience would want to see Luffy, Ace and Sabo as adults talking together in the same panel.
I thought, "If they meet together somewhere, it must be that scene". Only that scene would be able to become "IF" manga.
I can see some audience will strongly object to me. This is why I had to draw this bonus manga as seriously as actual chapter (every week).
I'm sure both Sabo and Luffy suffered from the unchangeable past after they imagined this kind of "IF" story.

This bonus manga doesn't change anything about the main story of ONE PIECE, but it would be appreciated if you enjoy this manga I drew seriously.

Spade Pirates stay in Sabaody Archipelago for ship coating. Skull tells the crewmates not to cause any troubles with Celestial Dragons, Marine, bounty hunters and such, but Ace is already obsessed with the idea about what he should eat in Sabaody including Grand Line Manju (traditional Japanese confection). Deuce decides to pay attention to Ace since he might burn Celestial Dragons.

Female Marine lieutenant Isca appears out of Spade Pirates ship and shouts Ace to come out of the ship. Isca and Spade Pirates have met so many times ever since they entered Grand Line. Spade Pirates seems a bit disgusted rather than being afraid of her since Ace has been handling her easily.

Ace asks her friendly, "Hey, Isca! What are you doing here? Sightseeing?"
Isca: I came here to arrest you, idiot!
Ace: I see. By the way, do you know any good souvenirs other than Grand Line Manju?
Isca: I bought Grand Line Senbei (a type of Japanese rice crackers) for my subordinates since it stays fresh for a long period of time..... No, I didn't come here for sightseeing!

Contrary to her words, she wears plain clothes like tourists instead of Marine coat today. Deuce considers Isca is a nice and honest person although she is a bit careless. Isca keeps shouting to let Ace come out of the ship, but actually he has already escaped to eat foods in downtown. Miharl notices Ace's wallet being left on the ship. Deuce is shocked and goes out of the ship to find Ace.

Deuce sees many mad restaurant staffs on a street since Ace didn't pay money to their foods. Finally he finds Ace sleeping on a bench near Ferris wheel at Sabaody Park. Deuce gives him a chop on his head to wake him up. Ace decides to ride on the Ferris wheel with Deuce since Deuce seems fascinated with it.

Right after they ride, Isca rushes into their gondola. Ace and Isca start a quarrel as usual. Deuce notices the gondola being locked. After a while, Isca keeps glaring at them without saying any words, but Ace is enjoying the great view from the window. Deuce feels stressed as if he is in a prison. He is wondering, "Why the heck are we riding on a Ferris wheel with Marine!?"

Deuce stares at a burn scar on Isca's hand. She tells him that her village was burned by pirates and lost her parents when she was a child. She says Lieutenant Commander named Draw/Drow saved her from the fire. She has heard that he is now Vice-Admiral. Isca joined Marine since she had been admiring him. Isca smiles, "I don't want any children to feel the same pain as me. I'll capture all evil pirates." Deuce thinks it is the first time to see her calm facial expression like this.

Isca suddenly suggests Ace to quit a pirate since she can't believe he is evil no matter how she tried. She tells him that she would recommend Spade Pirates to Marine if they have no other place to go. Deuce can't say any words due to surprise. Ace keeps silent.

Ace notices the door in the gondola being open by his mistake. He decides to get out of the gondola, saying he is hungry. Isca tells him that she hasn't received his answer yet. "Quitting pirates and becoming Marine... I can't do that." Ace shows a gloomy face for only a moment, but soon he shows a bright face as usual. "See you again, Isca." He jumps out of the gondola.

Isca seems a bit disappointed. Deuce asks Isca whether she will take him as a hostage so that Ace will appear in front of Marine. Deuce is pretty sure that Ace is a kind of person who comes to save his crewmates. Isca denies,
"People who belong to justice won't take hostages, idiot!"
She says in a small voice that this is why she wants Ace to become her comrades.
"I'll let you go this time. Today is a holiday for me. I came here for sightseeing."
Deuce replies that he already knew it and left the the Ferris wheel.

Ace and Deuce walk around Sabaody. They enjoy eating foods until ship coating is finished. 3 days after arriving Sabaody, ship coating is going to be finished. Ace and Deuce stray into a slum area. Ace finds some hungry kids and gives them all of his Grand Line Senbeis. They show smiles and leave cherishing senbeis in their hands.

Isca and robust looking male Vice-Admiral Draw appear in front of Ace and Deuce. Isca looks excited.
Isca: Good news, Fire-Fist!

Draw shows a letter to Ace, which says Gorousei recommends him to join Shichibukai. Isca says happily, "Now you don't need to retire from pirate!" However, Ace refuses it without hesitation. "Joining Shichibukai... Nothing doing."

Isca can't help being surprised. Ace says he doesn't like the system of Shichibukai. Draw smiles silently and tears apart the offering paper. Draw says he has been against Shichibukai system, too. He tries to punch Ace. His fist easily gouges the ground where Ace stood. Isca gets upset and asks Draw to stop fighting.

Deuce tells her that their conversation is over now that both of them hate Shichibukai. Draw is glad that Ace refuses the offer in front of him. He thinks he can beat "Fire-Fist" Ace to his heart content. Draw takes off his Marine coat. He has 2 flamethrowers under his arms. "Which is superior between my flamethrowers and your Mera Mera DF?" Deuce shouts, "Let's run away!"

Draw "I won't let you escape!" Strong fire from his weapon burns a building in the slum area. Kids in the buildings scream surrounded by fire.

"What the heck are you doing!?" Ace shouts and tries to save kids, but the fire from Draw is too strong. Thanks to Deuce grappling with Draw's body, Isca manages to rescue kids in the building which is about to collapse. Deuce doesn't release his hold despite the strong fire.

Deuce removes the fuel tank from Draw. Ace punches Draw in the face with Mera Mera DF, but it doesn't hurt him at all. Draw smiles.
He lifts up Ace and tries to choke him off with his hands despite Ace being a Logia DF user.

Ace: Is this so-called Haki...?
Draw: Your happy pirate life ends here. As a person of justice, I kill you.
Ace: I don't want anyone to mention justice who makes kids in danger ...!
Draw: Don't get me wrong. I'm just working to capture pirates. Without you, those kids wouldn't have got involved into the fire.

Ace can't make a rebuttal and shows a gloomy face.

Draw: If there were no pirates in the world, I wouldn't need to set fire to buildings.

Isca is shocked to heart that.
Isca: Vice Admiral.. Tell me you're lying... The criminal who set fire to my village were pirates, right...? Because you saved my life... My parents...
Draw: Don't complain just because a few civilians became victims for our mission. Sacrifice is inevitable for justice.

Isca breaks down crying.

Draw's fuel tank bursts due to Ace's fire. Both Ace and Draw get injured by the explosion.

Deuce: Even if Ace's fire is not effective to you, you can't extinguish his fire named rage with your Haki!!

Ace and Draw duke it out. Draw suffers a damage from Ace's fist.

Deuce: You're underestimating Ace...

Deuce says calmly. He knows Ace is so strong without Mera Mera DF and he gets stronger even during one battle.
Ace is overwhelming Draw now. Draw is out of breath and shows a painful face.

Draw: Impossible! Why..Why the heck are you using Haki?
Ace: Who knows!!

Ace and Draw punch them in face at the same time. Draw smiles for a moment, but he collapses on the ground.

Draw: Damn.. I hate you..
Ace: What a coincidence. So do I..

Deuce is impressed that Ace defeated Vice Admiral. Ace smiles, panting.
Ace: It's not a big deal...

Deuce lends his shoulder to Ace since Ace is so exhausted that his feet are unsteady. Deuce tells him to go back to their ship as soon as possible since Marine will chase them, but Ace can't leave there worrying about Isca.

Isca seems to be in despair. Ace tells her to get on board Spade Pirates ship. He wants her to become a bounty hunter who aims to hunt him on the same ship. He stretches out his hand toward Isca.

Isca wipes away her tears and smiles, "You Idiot, Fire Fist..! There is no way a bounty hunter and a pirate shake hands!"

Ace, Deuce and Isca run out of the slum area. They can escape safely since Isca tells them the whereabouts of Marines. They find Spade Pirates ship gradually departing from a port. Skull tells them to hurry up. They need to jump from the port to their ship.

Ace: Let's go, Isca!
Ace and Deuce jumps to their ship, but Ace is surprised to see Isca still staying at the port.

Ace: Why..!?
Isca: I'm Marine... I can't go with you...
She smiles weakly.

Ace: Why!!
Isca: Don't die, Ace. Thank you. (TN: This is the first time Isca calls his name. She has been calling him "Fire Fist".)

The distance between Ace and Isca is getting bigger as the ship moves forward.
Ace is disappointed. "Should I have shaken hands with her..? But it can't be helped since I'm a pirate and my hands turns into fire."

Ace pulls down his hat over his eyes.
Deuce: Ace...You...

Ace always considers that he should not be loved by others, but Deuce knows Ace is like a sun for everyone. Warships are approaching. Spade Pirates escapes from them thanks to Ace's fire fist.

Ace: Let's go, guys!!

Ace has to fight as a captain no matter what separation he experiences. Spade Pirates ship dives into the deep sea toward Fishman Island. In the dark deep sea, Ace's ambition is burning. He is heading for New World and plans to take Whitebeard's head, who is said to be the nearest person from ONE PIECE. The ship gradually goes into the dark sea.

ONE PIECE Magazine says the sequel of Ace novel will be announced in Weekly Shonen Jump in the future.
Ace's adventure in New World will be written in the sequel novel. It also says Ace novel will be published as a volume.

-Lastly.... this info actually doesn't come from the OP Magazine, but rather, the recently-released 23rd Log (basically reprints of past chapters in magazine format). Oda makes a comment about how the Shichibukai came to be. Sandman takes it away once again:

Oda: I haven't finished ONE PIECE yet despite the 20-year-serialization. The main reason is these guys (Shichibukai).
At first, I intended to finish ONE PIECE in 5 years. It was supposed to be a story to fight against pirates called Yonkou.
However, I came up with the idea of Shichibukai... I just thought, "It would be badass if these characters showed up". Then as you can see, it caused this long serialization!!

Why didn't I make them Gobukai or Nibukai!! (TN: "Go" means 5, "Ni" means 2 and "Shichi" as in Shichibukai means 7 in Japanese.
In short, Oda is saying he should have reduced the number of Shichibukai.) I thought 7 was a cool number!! That being said, I don't regret it since I drew what I wanted. ...I'm regretting a bit!!

To think that Luffy's bounty is getting closer to Sabo... I expect that he got around a billion for that but... Oh well.

Still, i relt relieved again to see Zoro vs Sanji again on Episode of Luff. Still, while on Sunny there are Zoro vs Sanji, meanwhile on Sabo he self-rampage XD

I thought Sabo's bounty would be higher too. He's the second in command of the revolutionary army after all.

In all fairness, Sabo still has one of the higher bounties we've seen in the series, even if it doesn't reach the billion+ range like the top Yonkou officers. My guess is that his youth and inexperience (at least compared to Dragon) are the reason for his current price. Sort of a similar case as his brothers, when you think about it. Lots of potential, but still not quite there at the summit, yet....

And speaking of the Yonkou, I find it interesting that Oda apparently had the concept in mind even early in the series' run. So it was really something he had planned out for a long time (though probably not fully so, considering how wildly Big Mom and Kaidou's current designs contrast with what we first saw at Water 7). I'm still more impressed with the story of how he came up with the Supernovas in a single night during the Sabaody arc's run, though....
