He is finally back!! I've been waiting for this for so long. That was a really emotional moment, and made this the best ep of the series. Impressive that he managed to retain his sanity after leaping so many times.
Same reason he couldn't save Mayuri in the alpha worldlines. Convergence. The machine will be destroyed no matter what he tries. Time leaping was never the solution. He found evidence earlier that Mayuri and Suzuha may still be alive, which was their bodies not being found in the wreckage. He needs to latch onto that possibility instead.

Yeah, now that he's gotten this far needs to tackle the issue of convergence. No matter how quickly they work it doesn't matter. A helicopter is going to appear from somewhere and fire missiles at the thing. So the question becomes how they can get around that or use it. At least on the right track.

He probably told them it malfunctioned and had it checked over.
It's implied by Hiyajo's comment to Ruka that it failed because they were too exhausted and messed something up. Thus, Ruka is needed to ensure they're fed, have stuff to drink, etc. Remember, on the failed attempt it was just Hiyajo and Daru, while everyone helped on the initial success. |

And not to mention the Mil one in this episode. Apache was a strech. It could be obfuscated under the pretense of exercise or something maybe since Americans are their allies. But HOW IN THE F did spetznatz smuggle an entire GUNSHIP into Japan?!?

This anime has being a trainwreck for quite some time now, but this episode was pure gold. Kyouma gave a new refreshed soul to this show. I was smiling all the time. Absolutelly fantastic. THIS is the Steins;Gate i loved so much. Glad to see it back. It only took 21 episodes xD

And I'm in the opposite boat. I'm really just not a fan of Okabe's Kyouma persona. It made watching the first 7-8 episodes of the original series tedious for me back when I marathoned it a few years ago. With that said I did enjoy the episode.
