Just heard from people at Anime Expo today that Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is getting a new anime, over 10 years since the first season aired.

This came from the studio Trigger panel.

Well, can't say I ever had any interest in this series, but I know a lot of fans had asked for some time to get a sequel, so glad to see this. Now if only we could get sequels to some of the ones I want, like MCILAL and NGNL.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand we have Trigger and Imaishi doing this so we know it's in the proper hands. On the other, the ending of the original show was almost made better by how trollish it was. Kind of afraid this will not hit as hard as the original.

It'd be pretty amusing if they just completely ignored the original series ending and never made reference to it again.

Trigger would be looking for any pretext to try and cash in on Gainax nostalgia, and they're limited by what they have the rights to. TTGL is obviously both vastly superior and more popular, but most people are very happy with the way that wrapped up so a sequel-reboot is tougher to justify.

Seems like most of the staff is returning (which is good news). I think the only thing missing is knowing who's handling music.
