What a waste of a ball. This match is the longest one in the entire manga. Wonder how is Davids going to handle it? The first anime took forever while Road to 2002 was about 3 episodes but with almost skipping the first half.

The anime will end in episode 52
I gotta ask, is there really no future plan after this? No more sponsors?

I don't know. Sad considering this is one of the few anime that currently airs in my country and that they are even catching up to season 2. Hope it's just a hiatus similar to when Davis ends a a Jojo arc.

The series is back. The pacing sure felt really fast in the first episode to the point it was really weird how Matsuyama told Hyuga how should midfielders play alongside strikers. Same with Tsubasa's relationships.
Second episode was calmer but it sure was ridiculous how Wakabayashi stopped every shot.

Not many football (soccer) fans here?
Captain Tsubasa is a classic and while it is not realistic, it was one of the very first and very popular football mangas/animes of the 1980s. I never got the chance to watch it beyond the elementary and middle school championships so now this new series in 2018 (2023 for the second season) offers me a chance to rewatch the first part and showcase some of the world's best players against Team Japan. Episode 4 continues Team Japan's losing streak. I'm proud and happy to see that Hyuga and Matsuyama have matured greatly. The heavy ball will work wonders in the long run. And now a few of the EU teams have Tsubasa on their radar! Next week, one half of the Golden Pair comes back! |

Dayumn. I forgot the racism the series had. Wakabayashi got his ass kicked by German teenagers as soon as he got to the country. Still, poor Hyuga sure seems to have a big inferiority complex considering the three arcs of this series. At least the Bremen match didn't end like the one of Hamburgo. I guess the next episode sees the start of the cup.

This one was a bit calmer now that Tsubasa joined the team and that most of the screentime was devoted to Misaki. Still, it's kinda insane that everybody in those stairs knew Pierre and the Misaki which is weird due to their age. Then again, maybe we need an excuse for expositions. I wonder how long will this arc be considering the tournament didn't even start yet. There is also the controversial final volume of the manga that not even the old OVAs adapt... well, maybe some games did.

So they actually explain why Japan isn't using Wakabayashi.... So he basically repelling them again? Weird especially since a commentary says he wanted to see who is stronger between Schneider and him.
The tidbit about the Napoleon (the French who assited Misaki) surprised me as if the guy literally showed up out of nowhere and Pierre doesn't buy him at all. Meanwhile, the Argentinian player is an obvious reference to a younger Diego Armando Maradona. Also, I didn't expect this anime to adapt Kanda. I think no anime ever adapted him.

I'm surprised with how the French coast puts up with Napoleon despite how strong was the discipline in this manga sometimes. Still, the dude totally overshadowed his own captain with how he saved France in the match

Next episode is Japan vs Argentina. Obvious fact: Juan Diaz is direct tribute to late Argentinian player Diego Armando Maradona when he was young. Takahashi cited Maradona as one of the best players ever to the point he also referenced him in Hungry Heart Wild Striker.

Japan vs Germany made realize the former primarily relies in strikers from the previous seasons. Guess that makes the team kinda unbalanced especially when Schneider got into Wakabayashi so quickly. Also, Fukuyama! He really has Lelouch's tone
