Amazon's Lord of the Rings Show Is About the Return of Sauron
"Through scraps of information and even a bit of cartography, we’ve long been able to get a general gist of what Amazon’s massive new Lord of the Rings series is going to be about. But now the company has revealed the first official story details for the series, confirming what we’ve long expected: the prequel will tackle the rise of Middle-earth’s greatest evil. Confirmed via a synopsis provided to TheOneRing.net, Amazon Studios revealed that the series—currently filming in New Zealand with a cast that seems about as large as the population of a small country on top of that—is indeed set in the Second Age, “thousands” of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The show will concern itself with characters “both familiar and new” as they reckon with the fact that the Dark Lord Sauron has returned to cast shadow and flame across Middle- earth." Amazon's Lord of the Rings Series Just Dropped a Surprising Bit of
Season 2 News "We’ve still got over a year to wait for Amazon’s as-yet untitled, verifiably expensive Lord of the Rings series chronicling the Second Age of Middle-earth, which won’t grace our screens until September 2, 2022. But on the heels of news that season one just wrapped principal photography in New Zealand—a country whose majestic landscapes, so lovingly showcased in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films, have become inextricably linked with J.R.R. Tolkien’s tales—comes this announcement: season two is picking up stakes and shifting to the United Kingdom. The reason? Convenience with a side of cohesion. “The shift from New Zealand to the UK aligns with the studio’s strategy of expanding its production footprint and investing in studio space across the UK, with many of Amazon Studios’ tentpole series and films already calling the UK home,” according to an Amazon press release, which also quotes Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studios’ VP and Co-Head of TV, offering thanks to “the people and the government of New Zealand for their hospitality and dedication and for providing The Lord of the Rings series with an incredible place to begin this epic journey.” The press release also notes that season one’s post-production is still underway in New Zealand and will be through June 2022, with pre-production on season two ramping up in the UK in early 2022." They admitted they didnt have the rights for the Silmarilion and Unfinished Tales, they cant remake the movies because of their huge popularity, so they are making fanfiction

Ugh. That's...not good news.
I was kinda looking forward to events such as the Theft of the Silmarils, the Kinslaying at Alqualondë, the story of Túrin Turambar and the Fall of Gondolin, but I guess I was expecting too much. Now that the good material is off-limits, they'll be strip-mining the parts that Tolkien glossed over or never bothered expounding on, and populating the series with stuff in the vein of that unneeded romance subplot in The Hobbit.

If anything, their hack job have vindicated The Hobbit Trilogy. And Thauriel is a far better Original Character than anyone in this series.

Apparently they're gunning for five seasons, all of them already planned out. Quote:

Somehow, More Lord of the Rings Movies Are on the Way
"During an investors’ call earlier today, Warner Bros. announced that it will be making more Lord of the Rings movies. No details have been released at this time, but wowie zowie. What could these possibly be? We’re already getting War of the Rohirrim, a tale focusing on the famous King of Rohan that Helm's Deep is named for, and while something closer to home like the idea of a Hobbit adaptation that wasn't stretched to untenable lengths sounds nice, the final movie in that trilogy is less than a decade old. That leaves J.R.R. Tolkien's sprawling Middle-earth history book The Silmarillion, but that’s made up of smaller tales and legends, and isn't really one interconnected epic. And let's not forget Prime Video's Rings of Power, which already holds a very weird relationship with Warner Bros.' movies and the Tolkien estate." A new Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum, will hit
theaters in 2026 "the company just announced that there are two new Lord of the Rings films in the works (you can read the full press release here). The first is tentatively titled Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, and it’s being directed by Andy Serkis — you may remember him for his landmark performance as Gollum in Jackson’s prior movies." "And before The Hunt for Gollum arrives, we’ll see another intriguing project: an anime-style film called The War of the Rohirrim. That movie arrives this December and covers events in Rohan a few hundred years before The Lord of the Rings." See: https://www.engadget.com/a-new-lord-...140141386.html |

O_o Looks like an expansion/retelling of the tale of Helm Hammerhand. Alas, we already know who's going to die... EDIT: I didn't know we already had a...three-year-old thread for this IP.
