Looking for something like Hikaru No Go

I thought this anime was pretty good. Nice character growth and plot, it had its exciting moments and sad ones too. Does anyone have any in mind like this one but maybe not as long. One where it actually takes place over several years or something and you can see the characteractually grow physicaly.

Melodrama... where they grow physically... I think they run live action ones like that... on daytime television.

Well, there is Honey & Clover I & II... not shounen, but dramatic, and takes place over years. And I think they look older in the second season don't they? At least Hagu does.

Major has growth, it starts out when the main character is 6, then they age him to 10 and then in the second season to 14, its relatively long though at about 50 eps so far, it entertaining but not groundbreaking. Honey & Clover is a great anime, but its a big jump in maturity from Hikaru no Go to Honey & Clover, and by maturity I don't mean blood, guts and sex I mean emotional maturity.
