I just remember Ken Akamatsu once mentioned that originally, he wanted to start the Eva arc right from the begining but his editor wanted him to introduce the characters first, thus the first 2 volumes were basically extra or prequel. I wonder if Negima!? is what Ken Akamatsu first envisions Negima! to be. We'll see how episode 3 will come along. I haven't go to 2ch for live broadcast for a long time after the end of Mai Hime and Mai Otome....Negima!? could bring me back to 2ch once again if the other episodes keep up the quality of the first 2.

The story starts off really fast, spirals into the Eva and Negi fight in episode 2 already, the pace of the story is spiraling hastely. The animation is very attractive, and the spells has a good and unique feel to them. I'll go along and watch the rest.
??Ugh.. that was horrifying.

I'm a big fan of Akamatsu's original manga, but the new series looks to be interesting.
Anyone know why the OP for the second ep wasn't re-done as widescreen for the 16:9 version? It's just a stretched version of the 4:3 opening and looks bad. (And Mahora's subtitles for the opening are *really* hard to read. Please don't ever use that font again!) The OP animation, once viewed in the correct aspect ratio, looks pretty good Definitely a different feel from either the Manga or previous TV series. I peeked ahead at the third ep. Not sure I like what they're doing with the pactio system. Spoiler:

Heh, the instant my wife hears "Sandoitchy Monday" she's reaching for the axe ... it doesn't help that I tell her that she actually *sounds* a lot like Becky/Chiwa_Saito.
She likes the first OP because it has a summer BeachBoys feel to it. And we both like the drunken Ichijou Festival dance song. The Eva video-mogrification was pretty well done. I wonder what kind of character CDs or videos we'll get from the "official folks" this time around?

I'll empathize with rankoDD's lament that:
Spoiler:
But I'm not going to go ballistic just yet.... I want to see how the first 7 or 8 episodes play out.

Personally, I don't mind SHAFT not doing the first trip down to Library Island, given how:
a. it's already been covered in the original series; b. it's more of a Love Hina-esque tale than a fantasy/action tale (with the ending having "Love Hina" written all over it). I'm sure Library Island will be covered later on in the series, especially if they keep certain manga elements in the new series.

Aye, I don't really care if they "do the story" on Library Island (though Yui taking the lead in exploration was some nice character development for her) but it would be nice to see them visit it for some reason (maybe to obtain a book for some other reason).

It looks a bit like the old designs but it is small enough to be ambiguous. I just flipped through the manga series books...not spotting it. Which volume is it from? Browsing around to see if I can spot any obviously new design Kotaro pics....
