Its a little more complicated than that childhood freindship developed into feelings/love but both did not acknowledge it . Later due to Rukia's nobility they were further distanced .

Renji plans to start talking to her once he is Fuku but Rukia is sent to Karakura then Bleach happens their only other sort of confession was at the execution time which I stated in the previous page : D As I had said, its obvious Renji loves her but same cant be said about Rukia .

How about Tenma and Harima from School Rumble. That's the first thing that came to mind when I thought about this for mere moments.

Harima is one of my favorite anime characters, but his yearnings span only a couple of years. Some of the others mentioned in this thread stretch over decades over even centuries.

I notice no one, including me, mentioned Kurozuka yet, speaking of an unrequited passion that spans centuries. Of course, there's also Genji's love for Fujitsubo from the famous novel "Tale of Genji" that was most recently animated as Genji Monogatari Sennenki in 2009. (There are subs, but they are really hard to find.)
