Eventhough I say that Cid has an AWFUL personality but I kinda bit feel that it didn't help that just how AWFUL his new parents were. His father is basically a sniveling coward who instead being worried for missing daughter immediately made some pathetic excuses that it's impossible and just abandon her. The mother is also awful as well, she is very violent and attacks her coward husband not because of the love for her daughter but because they lost their means to maintain their wealth and status.

Even Claire thinks that these two are beyond hope. At least I think so, mostly I just think she's proud of the family name but not the actual family.

Cid already had his personality back in his original world. His current parents had nothing to do with his development.

By the way, I’m air. Nothing is expected of me, and neither do I cause any trouble. That’s the position in this family that I’m striving to maintain.

Yes, Cid did have his original personality but the manga implies that the parents didn't do ANYTHING to help their son. While Cid could have been fooling them the entire time, its most likely the parents didn't care a lot about Cid once he's not heir material. Heck, even the dialogue says that they didn't even bother and they didn't expect much of him.

Even in the WN, Claire implies that she has VERY low opinions about her parents considering she called him baldy while in prison.

Why would they help Cid when he doesn't need help? It's not like Cid shows his more disturbing nature to his parents. They also still provide for him food, shelter and clothes and sends him to school so they're not abusive of him.

As for not expecting much of him... Would you expect much out of Cid's mob self if you're his parents? He intentionally shows that's he's below average so why would his parents intentionally delude themselves into thinking he's gonna magically turn it around? As far as we know it's not like they say "son you suck" or "son I wish you were like your sister" etc. etc. so it's not like they were being mean to him.

At worst you can call them neglectful (given that they didn't notice their son running around killing bandits as a kid) but just being neglectful doesn't make them the worst parents in the world.

Even in the WN, Claire implies that she has VERY low opinions about her parents considering she called him baldy while in prison.

That's more of a tongue in cheek comment then anything else. Also given what we've seen from Claire and what little we've seen from the mother it's likely that family dynamics are female dominated in their house and Claire adapted her mother's treatment of their dad.

• Because the changed Milia the Vampire Hunter's name to Mary, does the prostitute that Cid saved from the WN still exist? What about
• What about Claudia, the guildswoman Cid saved as well? Does she still make an appearance?
• Does the volume cover the entire Great Trade Alliance conflict?

I just finished the first half (WN vol 5) of the LN. There are some small changes here and there in the dialogue. The important change is when Claire asked Aurora about "Him" who healed her Demon Possession, Aurora answered one word, "Shadow".

It could be a number of things:
1) Her parents were extremely lousy parents and Cid was the only one who did genuinely help her for selfless reasons. The key word 'selfless' may be a big of a stretch but hey. it's a little better.

2) Claire does know Cid's strength and chuunibyou and was trying to bring his full potential out.

One must wonder what ever happened to Minoru Kagenou's parents? Minoru is Cid's previous life.

Did they even know their son has severe mental problems? Did they not know? Are they dead and that's why Minoru acts this way? Or were they abusive parents and neglected most of his life and that's why he's insane?

Naturally, Claire was very angry about this so she was really harsh with him in training so she could prove them wrong. One day when Cid was 6 years old, she forced Cid to go "bandit hunting" with her so he could gain confidence. Unfortunately, the bandits they faced are equal to magic swordman. When Clair slowly lost consciousness, she saw Cid desperately protected her despite being the weaker. She saw the bandits killed him while remembering all the times he saved her, cursing her own stupidity. Of course, this was also one of Cid role play "weak brother desperately protect his sister". He then killed all of the bandits. Claire was super happy when she woke up seeing him alive, and vowed she would get stronger to protect Cid.

Oh I didn't make it clear. Cid didn't show any potentials and was very plain, average, unlike Claire.
When she woke up Cid simply told her there was a bounty hunter came by and killed the bandits.

I just got finished reading the Chinese translation of the Vampire arc of the LN.

Spoiler for spoilers:

Like LotusReichart2 said the main difference of this arc is that Claire is more aware of Shadow due to two factors:

The main factor is that Shadow/Cid was the one who saved Claire and Millia when they were getting their asses kicked by the Tyrant. This differs from the WN where Claire/Millia knocked the Tyrant off the tower on their own. In the LN Cid arrives to save his sister and punted the Tyrant off the tower without much effort before leaving again. After Shadow saved Claire, Claire commented that she felt safe around Shadow despite meeting him for the "first" time.

The other important factor is that Aurora outright told Claire that the person who saved her from Demonic possession was "Shadow". For that reason she developed a curiosity towards Shadow and outright asked Cid if he knew who Shadow was. Cid told her he was clueless of course.

Anyways the SS was cute (my favorite by far). Cid actually had some issues with the scarred thief leader because he was still a six year old who didn't have much speed and power relative to trained magic swordsman so the bandit was actually both stronger and faster than him. In the end Cid was forced to resort to a not yet shown technique called "Overdrive" which boasted his overall specs exponentially in exchange for breaking his body down (he commented that his limit with this technique is 30 seconds) and he beat the thief leader. Presumably this technique hasn't shown up yet in the present time because no one could force Cid to go all out.

Another thing to note is that Cid was surprisingly thoughtful in this SS. He made sure to dispose the bodies so his 8 year old sister wasn't exposed to the decapitated heads and the cut in half body of the thieves. Sasuga Shadow sama.

1. IDK. Chinese translations still stuck with "Milla" as the vampire hunters name and "Mary" as the prostitute.

2. Cid didn't want Tyrant dead for hurting his sister. He casually punted Tyrant off the tower and didn't really register him in his narration outside of noting that he saved his sister on the way up the tower. Since it mostly hasn't been translated yet I don't know how the Delta vs Tyrant thing went down.

3. He's six in this SS. He found Alpha when he was ten so yea his body was still not fully grown. It should be noted however that the 6 thieves he easily killed was at the level of a knight and the head of the thieves (which six year old Cid had trouble with) was actively wanted by the kingdom as one of the most infamous criminal so even six year old Cid was faaaaaaaaar above average. By the time he find Alpha he was easily one of the strongest in the world.
