Does popularity in Taiwan matter? Few days ago there was a comic convention in Taiwan and the author was there: http://www.appstar.com.tw/?p=acg&a=info&aid=5407

It says in the article that the series had now sold 1 million copies in Japan. This is amazing, Rakudai is officially a hit series. It may reach DanMachi's level eventually (DanMachi sold 1.5 million copies by the time the anime started airing).

While that's really freaking good an all, what's more worrying is the licensing of the light novel which I very much like to read.
I never noticed it was so popular before though

well the licensing is not necessarily bad in this case...the novel still have only 8 volumes, 9 in october..that mean if it would be licensed now it wont take 10 years to catch up...

If you like it so much, then you should be happy about licensing, possibility to buy and put your favourite LN on bookshelf and support author who work on it, right?

Only 3 Volumes are translated, so it's not the case when final volume is to be published after years of waiting, right?

exactly, as it stand now if we go with 1 vol every 4 months it would catch up what's currently translated in just 1 year

there would still be the usual problem as eccessive localization ecc but at least you would know what happen

I agree with this, meanwhile we wait for non-existant translations, licensing should fix the problem and maybe in 2 -3 years we can have all volumes translated.

I hope the adaptation calls the attention of a new translator our there.

Well ok, so licensing is a good thing. If it means faster translations, then very well.

Not necessarily. It's no guarantee that there will be faster translations, but you can at least hope for a steady stream of releases, even if the licensor eventually shows up with the latest volume years after the anime has ended (and the hype has long died off).

I just realized that opening theme is by the guy that did the S-cry-ed themes. I knew it sounded familiar. Like it even more now.

This is more often than not what usually happens with yen press. A series that's under 10 volumes that's a hit is your best bet for a relatively short catch up rate. Anything else is a waste of time.

Regarding the information about novel's sales I provided earlier, I wonder if it's reliable.

Just few months ago the series reached 500k and now it is said to have reached 1 million copies. The source was from an article featuring the comic convention in Taiwan which the author attended few days ago, so I assumed the information was reliable. But I haven't seen any Japanese source saying the same thing about the current sales.

Well you can check all the previous pages there are some hints about what is going on, most of the people who read the LN here never throw information, leaving aside endarion who always share stuff.

Phew finally got around to reading volume 03 and I must say it makes for a perfect place to end a 1 cour season. The PV looks great too!

i just hope that this series does not fall victim to the same trend that a lot of recent LN adaptations have suffered from, like rokka no yuusha or tokyo ravens. the trend i'm talking about regarding many recent LN adaptations is where the animations or visuals in the first episode are good, or even great, but the animation noticeably and slowly deteriorates to complete crap with each new episode.
