This is why, against all of my better judgement, I was pedalling my bicycle as hard as I could alone in the darkness.

After I had returned home, I went straight to my room after dinner and opened the science fiction novel Nagato-san had given me. The wall of words threatened to overwhelm me, and I dizzily started flipping through the thick book, wondering if I could ever finish such a thing, when a bookmark fell onto the floor.

It was a strange-looking bookmark, with some sort of fancy patterns on the borders. On the reverse side was written a message: Seven o'clock tonight, waiting for you at the park outside the station.

The words were neat and precise, as though printed out from a word processor. It could be Nagato-san's handwriting, but I had no way of telling.

How many days has it been since I received this book? Was the message asking me to meet Nagato-san at seven o'clock tonight? Or the night I was given the book? Maybe Nagato-san wanted me to find this bookmark eventually, and waited at the park every night. That could be the reason why he told me to read the book tonight, so that I could discover the bookmark. If so, then why didn't he tell me directly? It's not like I'm that scary.

I looked at the clock on the wall: around six forty-five. It would take about twenty minutes for me to ride my bicycle there from here. I thought about this for ten seconds, before sticking the bookmark in my jeans and rushing down the stairs.

"Where are you going, Kyon-chan?" my little brother asked me curiously, seeing me in such a hurry.

"The station." I hopped onto my bicycle and rode off. If Nagato-san wasn't there, I'm going to laugh to myself, after turning right around and going back home.

He stood up slowly as I approached. For some reason, he was still wearing his school uniform.

"Were you waiting for me yesterday too?" I asked guiltily.

He nodded.

"Couldn't you have told me whatever it is you wanted to tell me at school?"

"This way," Nagato-san simply said, starting to walk away.

"Are you angry with me for making you wait?"

"No."

I wasn't sure I could believe him, but I couldn't detect any sort of emotion from his voice. "Where are we going?"

"My home."

Wait, what?

I stopped cold. Why is Nagato-san bringing me to his house, after calling me out at night? Was this some sort of bizarre courtship method? Was he asking me out? Aren't there supposed to be all sorts of preliminaries before this?

Nagato-san sensed my hesitation, and looked back at me.

"Aren't we going a little too fast?" I said. "In all sorts of ways, I mean."

"Don't worry, there's nobody else inside."

That makes me worry even more!

I kept my eyes on Nagato-san's back, not knowing why I was still following him. Maybe it's because he doesn't seem to be the type to take advantage of girls. Also, he ignored most of the things which had happened ever since Haruki took over his club room, which meant that anything he felt important enough to tell me had to be incredible.

After a very short while, we arrived at an apartment block near the station.

"Here," Nagato-san said, taking out an electronic pass and tapping it against the sensor. The glass door in front of us opened. I locked my bicycle at the entrance and quickly followed Nagato-san, who politely kept the door open for me. I stepped into the elevator after him, running through all sorts of scenarios in my mind. Was I making a big mistake? I should have brought my cellphone with me, but I left my home in too much of a hurry and forgot. It was a bit of a scary thought, but Nagato-san really had me at his mercy now, and I could only hope that he would not try anything improper.

The elevator arrived at the seventh floor, and we walked silently down the corridor to room 708. Nagato-san held open the door. "Enter."

I tried to stay calm as I stepped in and took off my shoes, but I jumped a little bit in trepidation when Nagato-san shut the door behind him. There was no escaping now.

This must be one of those posh condominiums that cost a fortune to rent, especially considering how close it was to the station. But as I looked around the brightly-lit interior, I had the feeling that nobody really lived here.

The living room had only a single small table with a heated blanket. There was no other furnishing around, not even curtains or carpeting.

"Sit down," Nagato-san said, before entering the kitchen without bothering to see if I obeyed. I knelt down beside the table, wondering if I should try to run away.

Nagato-san returned with a tray with a teapot and teacups. He set it on the table, and sat down across from me.

Silence.

Maybe he expected me to pour the tea for him? I started to reach out, but Nagato-san grabbed the teapot before I could, as though suddenly remembering something. He began pouring tea into a cup.

I felt that I had to initiate some conversation, but I couldn't think of any good topics. "Um, where's your family?" I said lamely.

"There isn't any."

"They're not at home, I can see... have they gone out?"

"I've always been the only one here since the beginning."

This was the first time I've heard Nagato-san use such a long sentence. I must be on to something.

"Are you living alone?"

"Yes."

A high school student living alone in a high-class apartment. There must be a lot of complicated reasons behind this, and I didn't know whether Nagato-san wanted me to pry too deeply.

Nagato-san pushed the cup of tea over to me. "Drink," he said.

I did so, trying not to look at Nagato-san, who was staring at me like I was a new and peculiar animal in a zoo. I'm uncomfortable enough being alone in the home of a strange guy, so please don't make it any worse than it already is!

After I finished, I set the cup down on the table. Nagato-san moved to refill it for me, but I stopped him in time. "There's no need for a refill," I said. "Can you please tell me why you have brought me here?"

Nagato-san continued staring at me, but this time it felt like he was trying to think of how to bring the subject up. Was he looking for the right words, or trying to build some sort of inner courage?

"It is about Suzumiya Haruki," he finally said, "and myself."

He stopped. What, was that it? I don't understand his speaking style, but he should at least establish some sort of context.

Strangely, Nagato-san now looked uncomfortable. This was a brand new expression for him, but it was only visible to close examination, and only the very observant would even notice.

"This is not easily conveyed in words," he said, "and there may be errors during the transmission of data due to the limitations of language. Regardless, please listen." He paused for a moment in thought, before announcing: "Suzumiya Haruki and I are not ordinary humans."

That is really not a helpful statement to say so early in the conversation. "I kind of noticed that already," I said carefully.

"You do not understand entirely," Nagato-san continued. "I do not mean unusual in terms of deviations of personality. I mean that he and I are not ordinary human beings like you."

What on earth is he trying to say?

"The Integrated Data Sentient Entity, which oversees this galaxy, has created a Humanoid Interface to interact with biological entities. This Humanoid Interface would be me."

I didn't know how to respond to that.

"My duty is to observe Suzumiya Haruki, and upload any data thus obtained to the Integrated Data Sentient Entity. I have been doing this since my creation three years ago. In those three years, no significantly unusual elements were discovered, and the situation was very stable. However, recently an external factor has appeared alongside Suzumiya Haruki which cannot be ignored." Nagato-san fixed me with his expressionless gaze. "That factor is you."

This was the first time I've heard Nagato-san use such a long sentence. I must be on to something.

A high school student living alone in a high-class apartment. There must be a lot of complicated reasons behind this, and I didn't know whether Nagato-san wanted me to pry too deeply.

Nagato-san pushed the cup of tea over to me. "Drink," he said.

I did so, trying not to look at Nagato-san, who was staring at me like I was a new and peculiar animal in a zoo. I'm uncomfortable enough being alone in the home of a strange guy, so please don't make it any worse than it already is!

After I finished, I set the cup down on the table. Nagato-san moved to refill it for me, but I stopped him in time. "There's no need for a refill," I said. "Can you please tell me why you have brought me here?"

Nagato-san continued staring at me, but this time it felt like he was trying to think of how to bring the subject up. Was he looking for the right words, or trying to build some sort of inner courage?

"It is about Suzumiya Haruki," he finally said, "and myself."

He stopped. What, was that it? I don't understand his speaking style, but he should at least establish some sort of context.

Strangely, Nagato-san now looked uncomfortable. This was a brand new expression for him, but it was only visible to close examination, and only the very observant would even notice.

"This is not easily conveyed in words," he said, "and there may be errors during the transmission of data due to the limitations of language. Regardless, please listen." He paused for a moment in thought, before announcing: "Suzumiya Haruki and I are not ordinary humans."

That is really not a helpful statement to say so early in the conversation. "I kind of noticed that already," I said carefully.

"You do not understand entirely," Nagato-san continued. "I do not mean unusual in terms of deviations of personality. I mean that he and I are not ordinary human beings like you."

What on earth is he trying to say?

"The Integrated Data Sentient Entity, which oversees this galaxy, has created a Humanoid Interface to interact with biological entities. This Humanoid Interface would be me."

I didn't know how to respond to that.

"My duty is to observe Suzumiya Haruki, and upload any data thus obtained to the Integrated Data Sentient Entity. I have been doing this since my creation three years ago. In those three years, no significantly unusual elements were discovered, and the situation was very stable. However, recently an external factor has appeared alongside Suzumiya Haruki which cannot be ignored." Nagato-san fixed me with his expressionless gaze. "That factor is you."

I salute how Nagato's awesomeness just went all the way through the roof, but I salute even more of dkellis' efforts in capturing it all perfectly.

Okay, rehashed the history on Lynn... I trashed most of it and redid it from her age six area. Mostly it's more detailed.

If it seems to start 'running short' near the end... it might be because I started getting in a hurry. (I get like that when I approach the end of something, it try to fight it... but if I'm tired, it wins.) This took me about three hours, so bear with it.

This should make her come across as less a berserker, and more skilled, intelligent, and strong.

Based on those results, she was transfered from the regular division, over to the Special Weapons And Tactics Division as part of a small group of Enforcers Specialized solely in Attack and Sting Operations. The Shock Enforcers.

With her new 'elite' status, came the perks. The Shock Enforcers have a full support unit just for them who quickly developed her an Armred Device customized precisely to suit her needs. With their help, she quickly imported her concepts for barrier breaker attacks into new attacks for the device. A short time later, she approached them with a request for any possible way to be able to launch a magic attack the very moment she wanted it, any way to bypass the long, disadvantagous charging time required to use a barrier breaker attack. It took the team some time to figure it out, but eventually the P.A.C. system was developed. It wasn't all that good, but Lynn said it did what she wanted, and that was enough.


Lynn in person isn't as frightening as she is in combat, having earned the nickname the Angel of Death from her enemies... Polite, but serious, she doesn't look to provoke, and doesn't bother to insult, patronize, or otherwise do any kind of deliberate brown nosing. She quite simply, states facts as she sees them. Which can be quite frustrating to some, but her fearsome reputation keeps most people who don't know her from voicing counter oppinions. She has a fond appreciation for those who strive to improve themselves and hard workers.

This is why, against all of my better judgement, I was pedalling my bicycle as hard as I could alone in the darkness.

After I had returned home, I went straight to my room after dinner and opened the science fiction novel Nagato-san had given me. The wall of words threatened to overwhelm me, and I dizzily started flipping through the thick book, wondering if I could ever finish such a thing, when a bookmark fell onto the floor.

It was a strange-looking bookmark, with some sort of fancy patterns on the borders. On the reverse side was written a message: Seven o'clock tonight, waiting for you at the park outside the station.

The words were neat and precise, as though printed out from a word processor. It could be Nagato-san's handwriting, but I had no way of telling.

How many days has it been since I received this book? Was the message asking me to meet Nagato-san at seven o'clock tonight? Or the night I was given the book? Maybe Nagato-san wanted me to find this bookmark eventually, and waited at the park every night. That could be the reason why he told me to read the book tonight, so that I could discover the bookmark. If so, then why didn't he tell me directly? It's not like I'm that scary.

I looked at the clock on the wall: around six forty-five. It would take about twenty minutes for me to ride my bicycle there from here. I thought about this for ten seconds, before sticking the bookmark in my jeans and rushing down the stairs.

"Where are you going, Kyon-chan?" my little brother asked me curiously, seeing me in such a hurry.

"The station." I hopped onto my bicycle and rode off. If Nagato-san wasn't there, I'm going to laugh to myself, after turning right around and going back home.

I tried to remain in brightly-lit areas, which meant that I arrived at the park outside the station at about ten past seven. There weren't a lot of people I could see at this time of night, which did nothing to soothe my worries.

I got off and wheeled my bicycle into the park. Nagato Yuuki was sitting on a park bench, under the harsh light of the lamp posts, like some sort of easily-overlooked ghost.

He stood up slowly as I approached. For some reason, he was still wearing his school uniform.

"Were you waiting for me yesterday too?" I asked guiltily.

He nodded.

"Couldn't you have told me whatever it is you wanted to tell me at school?"

"This way," Nagato-san simply said, starting to walk away.

"Are you angry with me for making you wait?"

"No."

I wasn't sure I could believe him, but I couldn't detect any sort of emotion from his voice. "Where are we going?"

"My home."

Wait, what?

I stopped cold. Why is Nagato-san bringing me to his house, after calling me out at night? Was this some sort of bizarre courtship method? Was he asking me out? Aren't there supposed to be all sorts of preliminaries before this?

"Aren't we going a little too fast?" I said. "In all sorts of ways, I mean."

"Don't worry, there's nobody else inside."

Was I making a big mistake? I should have brought my cellphone with me, but I left my home in too much of a hurry and forgot. It was a bit of a scary thought, but Nagato-san really had me at his mercy now, and I could only hope that he would not try anything improper.

The elevator arrived at the seventh floor, and we walked silently down the corridor to room 708. Nagato-san held open the door. "Enter."

Lynn in person isn't as frightening as she is in combat, having earned the nickname the Angel of Death from her enemies... Polite, but serious, she doesn't look to provoke, and doesn't bother to insult, patronize, or otherwise do any kind of deliberate brown nosing. She quite simply, states facts as she sees them. Which can be quite frustrating to some, but her fearsome reputation keeps most people who don't know her from voicing counter oppinions. She has a fond appreciation for those who strive to improve themselves and hard workers.

Inspiration from Sabots huh? At least she now THOUGHT her way into the solution instead of just getting stronger

- Private First Class Nightengale, and Keroko's friend/enemy on the Kerokanon team. Most of the stuff he comes up with questionably fits into the timeline, much to Keroko's chagrin, but he's so damn good at it he can't say anything. Extremely perverted. Wears a teal Barrier Jacket.
- Private Kagerou, the Kerokanon rookie. Is somewhat dim-witted, and has been getting worse. Wears the standard-issue blue Barrier Jackets.

Dude...the US is way behind the TSAB. And there's no way that a rail cannon slug could possibly leave the atmosphere. The length of the barrel wouldn't allow it, unless it was put through a massive version of a particle accelerator, then maybe.

But even then, TSAB ships, have shields with which to protect their ships! XD
