Requesting a citation about something that was mentioned earlier.

Someone mentioned, in response to why the US isn't assisting Japan as per the Mutual Protection Treaty (or whatever it's called), that the US is getting held up in the Middle East to the point where they can't spare enough troops for a joint US/JSDF operation through the gate.

Not in the gaiden, bunko edition book 5上 (part 1 of 2) afterwords.
Author wrote there that once the gaiden completes he'll do second season.

It's one of the reason, since the book was written when US was thick in conflict in Iraq against the insurgency.
There are other reasoning though, and major one was already expressed in the anime.

The original novel format doesn't have author comments like the bunko/light novel editions, and the most recent gaiden+ (book 10) is only out in the original novel format. So we don't know for sure.

However, book 9 (gaiden 4) was the chronologically the last book with the gate reopening, so the natural next book would be Season Two.

Gaiden+ is chronologically taking place after book 2, so it's an exception... unless he does Gaiden+2 or something.
I doubt it, as Gaiden+ seems like just an excuse to have a book focusing Yao, as she was the only harem heroine that didn't get her own gaiden book till now.

I'll make it easier to understand:

Book 1-5: Season 1
Gaiden 1: Mermaid arc, heroine Pina
Gaiden 2: Festival arc, heroine Rory
Gaiden 3: Dragon Knight arc, heroine Tuka
Gaiden 4: Rebuilding the Gate arc, heroine Lelei (The final book in chronological order)
Gaiden+: Special Region Dungeon arc, heroine Yao (taking place shortly after book 2, after they killed the flame dragon)

Thanks for the info! Maybe it's just me, but of all the novels I'm most interested in reading about Gaiden+ since Yao is my favourite heroine of the lot. She's funny without actually being funny, and her circumstances are hilarious, in a kind of deranged way
