I don't see any logical sense here. If you want to look at the faces of characters, one would argue that the color illustrations offer a better representation than in black and white.

If you want to see the faces of the characters while reading the relevant scene, then the illustrations are right there in the text where it was positioned in the book.

Unless you mean you want to view all the black and white illustrations before reading the novel itself, but your point was about looking at illustrations when reading...

Champion? Campiote? The title was something along those lines. In a similar manner, this book kept bringing up scholarly knowledge about mythology from all over the world—Or more accurately, drivel of no particular importance.

So not only is the heroine fair game to be picked on, but even other series of his as well.

Forgetting it's name and even referring to a lot of it's content as "drivel of no particular importance" isn't a good omen for him updating Campione any time soon.

Plain old run-of-the-mill Japanese modesty.

They're not Americans, they don't go around promoting their own work by calling it super awesome or the best thing ever.

I really hope it was just plain old joke from author. Illustrations notwithstanding, I really like Campione. It was my first taste of what True Harem LN would like (No, DXD is not True Harem yet back then). I am still salty that they decided to license Campione, and not release anything about it.
