About Isla's stats, the graph seemed to have a constant negative slope, (didn't Kaji say something about that?) I so took it as she wasn't just like that, but somehow it was due to deterioration (or that what the show was trying to imply) Misato instead wasn't surprised that Isla wasn't doing well, like she had always been that way, but I took that more related to her behavior around people instead of her physical clumsiness. That's were the deterioration comes into play and taht's why isla decided to take physical test sessions instead of live-and-interact-with-others courses.

I just watched episode 1. I didn't expect this one to have a heavy theme in it. I haven't read the synopsis so I don't have a clue but the plot of the artificial intelligence that interacts like real human but has fix lifespan of 9 years and 4 months. Its harsh if you bonded with it too much and treat it as a constant being to your life. Its like they are task to kill/end someone.
Really sad one.

So apparently retrieval is mandatory but the retrieval team rely on persuasion out of their own kindness which isn't necessarily what the head office wants. I'm surprised the head office has given them that leeway for so long but that's believable enough. I hope they go into ethics things later.

Not so. I don't want to overstate things, but this is in part a tragedy, in the classical sense, in which we see from the beginning the inevitable onrush of fate. Making it so obvious from the start gives us a different kind of strong emotion. It was no accident that we basically knew her fate before we met her. The interest will lie in the feels, and in how they evolve things from here. And I wouldn't put it past them to find her a way out -- for better or worse.

Essentially it boiled down to a couple possibilities: 1. The company was telling the truth and there really are hardware limitations, 2. The company was lying and put the limited life span in place for financial reasons (i.e. clients are forced to periodically upgrade and buy newer models) or 3. The government had reasons for it (i.e. like being worried about androids "taking over" or some such) and kept company policy tightly under control. Most seemed to be leaning towards the second reason.

It's just that her former partner revealed during the drinking scene that she suspected that when they (Tuskasa and Isal as a team) mess up it's Isla's fault. I'm not quite sure how to take this conversation yet. It's in a context when Tsukasa asks how to treat owners, and he's basically told he's neglecting the giftia, but also that that's just the way they do things. It's not exactly clear what that entails yet. |

It could be a mix of 1 and 2. Problem is that because there's some kind of serious "defect" in Giftia that cause them to not forget, they create some PR-related problems that the company decided to procure a concret time period and the Termination Team to do that.

In my opinion it is too early in the anime to know what really is happening.
But my thories for the limited life span are: - Their souls are made using quantum mechanics. In Quantum mehanics "reading" information (the soul in this case) causes the particles to change. (one of the law is that if u measure something u change it. This means that u cannot read the soul because u change it. no copy-paste possible. - Hardware limitations or software bugs, during time they accumulate and can cause nasty side effects - company economic strategy - something more sinister like I, Robot or Terminator, and that is why after 9 years they have to decomission them. We will see eventually. Honestly Isla is the first loli character I actually like. Having great hopes for the series.. I like it so far.

Most part of this episode was literally WTF. It was funny btw with some serious parts about Isla, glad to see they finish this chapter like that instead of getting a stupid joke right after a sentimental moment as the first episode.

Tsukasa moving in with Isla.
Awkward much? They do need to do some bonding. Their relationship is nowhere near a true partnership. Tsukasa was going about it all wrong.. It was pretty funny though ^^ Those two... just need time.

Ep 03
Hmm ... well ... the first half of the episode honestly felt unnecessary to me. It felt too forced, somehow. Part of me felt as if it could have gotten the point across without presenting the material in the slapstick manner it did. I ... well ... I don't like it and kinda wish it would stop. The second half was much, much better, though - much more in the lines of what I was expecting the series to be focusing on. It was nice that we finally got an ED with this ep as well, and it is quite a fitting and lovely one, too. Overall the positives of the ep far outweighed the negative ... but even so part of me wishes the staff would have been told that the effect creates whiplash, not counterbalance.

A bit late to catching p with this series. Dang RL stuff. >.<
Wow, watching Michiru in action in this series......painfully reminds me how much I hate her type of character, a la Naru from Love Hina and most of Ichika's harem from Infinite Stratos; always assuming the worst of the MC, even if they have a crush on him, and blaming every situation on him and going nuts on him for it, even when it's obvious it's not his fault. We got a good taste of that last episode too. >.< It's so obvious that Tsukasa isn't the kind of person to "plot" anything untowards with Isla, yet that's the first thing she thinks of him. I just really wish we could get rid of these types of characters, they've always been a real pain for me to watch. Fortunately they managed to ditch that bad cliche for the second half. They should really tell Tsukasa about the fact that Isla doesn't mave much time remaining, though. That's a land mine just waiting for him to step on, and he already did brush up against it this episode. The impact when it goes off will only get worse the longer he doesn't know about it. He's supposed to be her partner and build trust with him, but they won't tell him a key piece of information about her. This series is only going to be one cour, right? Though even if it had two, I'd wouldn't be so sure that we'll get any kind of miracle ending where Isla's doesn't "die." It just seems it would be too convenient. Right from the very beginning when I heard the premise of Giftias, I prepared myself for a tragic ending.
