As for the three most likely to advance, I'd say: Mihoko Hisa Saki I think Yuuki is doomed. I'm rooting for her, but whenever someone runs out with a big lead like that, I usually see a death flag go up. That, and Yuuki is kind of streaky. Weird new monster girl had an annoying habit of keeping the wind tesserae flipped on the south wind, even though these were east wind only games. She probably does it because the south wind is her Super Special Monster Power Wind thing or something. I bet she does that to Yuuki and sucks out all of her power that way. >_> Doesn't matter either way-- Mihoko is also a monster, and so is Saki. Monster Girl might also make it, I guess, but I like Hisa as the sentimental favorite. Saki was underwhelming, but the idea wasn't to score the most points, it was just to make the top 30. She doesn't seem to turn into a monster until her back is up against the wall. I'd say she'll start carving up people later on when she finds a reason to. |

Yuumi (strong player + unfinished loose ends) Nodoka (strong player) Captain (strong player) Ikeda (comic relief) Someone from Ryumonbuchi so the entire gang can tag along Saki (last place because she doesn't seem too motivated with single tournaments) |

Not to mention that with 3 non-kiyosumi people from the individual tournament they'd be able to have a joint training camp with enough people for 2 tables without relying on Kyoutaro as filler.

Btw what are Mihoko's powers? can she read the flow like JUn or is she really good at reading the discards similar to Mako?
I'd like to see a battle between Mako & Mihoko, sicne we haven't seen much of Mako, maybe in the future during the nationals but that's too long. The battle of the discards, tricking the other what you might have in your hand with your discards. |

Mihoko seems to be able to look at the discards and figure out what everyone's hands are, which essentially makes her a walking cheat code. (But only when she opens up her right eye.)
With only 5 episodes of anime-original content left, I kind of doubt it makes any difference who wins the individual tournament, since they won't be able to cover the nationals at all. (It's just not possible.) I'm guessing they'll have to find some way to wrap it up and leave it for a second season sometime in the future, when the manga has caught up again. Edit: Oh duh. Mihoko #2 is Bundou. So Kazekoshi and Kiyosumi both got all 5 in the final round. |

Isn't #27 also from Kazekoshi? They even got their reserve players in. As expected of powerhouses. They make up in quantity.
Mihoko's power also incorporates playing habits from the players, like when she was able to see that Yuuki had a one tile hand.

Though with her endless supply of tacos, Yuuki might have a chance against her in the South Wind. |

By the way, in random Saki merchandise news, the 7th volume of the DVDs, arriving on 6 January 2010, will include another pillow cover -- this time, reversible, apparently. At this point they're still keeping the character(s) a secret.
And also, confirming earlier comments, the 9 DVDs will contain 25 episodes, which makes sense given that they're going to be skipping a week for the elections. |

I hope this means that this little filler arc was planned since back then and the continuity had been discussed with the mangaka already. The first episode seems to be very solid so far, but this would make a happy Proto.
