The way I read it it's totally a sequel they just don't want to call it that because "sequel" has negative connotations in many people's eyes.

Its a reboot. They didn't feel the first game did Faith/Mirror's Edge justice the first time around overall so they are basically redoing it now cuz they want it be the building block for the franchise going forward. In other words, they don't believe the first game achieved that so making a sequel without a proper intro isn't going to cut it. They believe they are going to achieve the goal this time. At least thats how I took what I read on their site. The first game might have ran into some budget/time constraint problems so things might have gotten altered or cut from the game. I dunno.

There are plenty of people who only had a 360 last gen in the West and only jumped ship to PS4 after Microsoft's terrible policies announced last E3, so for them it's a great opportunity to play games they missed on the PS3.

Hopefully it will be their commercial blockbuster this time? That or we'll know the Platinum Games curse is for real. Rumors seemed to implied this is a xbox exclusive but considering it's Activision and Transformer, i highly doubt it. In fact, it would be crazy to be platform exclusive. Loved the cel shading, really captures the classic transformer look that i grew up with.

Well business is business. Transformer is far more relevant brand compare to Ninja Turtles till this day (also better by a country mile!). Not much expectation from me out of this title though, seems like they repurposed the engine used for Korra for this. Wouldn't be surprised if this is just another lower budget games.
