Come to think of it....Asterisk is probably one of a few (or the first?) school battle anime based on light novel that viewers will get to see the end of the competition that MCs trying to win.
Other series (for example, blade dance and Rakudai) usually ends at the point where MCs become school's representatives.

Episode 6:
Meh, the fight involving Ayato and Julis was underwhelming imo this week. They were pretty much fed to two jobbers to them as they never stood a a chance. Kinda felt bad for Camilla this episode with that background story. I also find it somewhat poetic that she mentions how "half her life" belongs to Ernesta now. About time a certain someone showed up at the end.

Oh look! another bunch of jobbers being defeated! wow this is so exciting...
Ok leaving aside how boring and sad was that fight, we got a nice info dump about Camilla and well Kirin and Saya having their moments. More than that the episode was pretty bad. Is a pity that so good ending is wasted on this show, at the same time I'm happy about the fact that this second cour is having worst rankings than the first one flopping even harder, thanks japan!. |

Are people actually excepting Ayato-Julis pair to struggle again already? After their main handicap was partially resolved? They can't have one easy win after 2...........no wait 3 tough/problematic matches in a row........considering their main focus is to find Flora as quick as possible.
MC struggles --> Complain MC wins --> Complain Ayato and Julis can mostly go all out now and they were not weak before either. Can't people at least appreciate that simple point instead of complaining about jobbers? |

One thing that is irking me the wrong way about the Phoenix festa is the author's reluctance in actually taking advantage of 2 on 2 battles. I mean, I know that not every show can be World Trigger, but so far almost every battle has devolved into two parallel 1on1's with very little to no actual team play whatsoever. So much wasted potential.

I have not watched the episode yet, but the fight was that boring?
And it was Ayato's team semi-finals. So it was more boring than those twin's Ayato and Julis fought in the previous match? Then all those expectations I had that much because of the opening. Of course I have to see the episode myself. Speaking of team battles, it is rather of an irony in a case where Ayato and Julis each beat their opponents in two on one battles in the early 1st and 2nd rounds of the tournament. I still remember those two Queenvail students were looked like to me, rather wants to stand out to win with style than completely focus on winning. At least it seemed to me the Ayato's first round opponents male duo were more serious to win than then the female duo. Teamworks are maybe unnecessary in early rounds because they don't want to reveal the tactics as a team. I said this before but especially those two females Julis beat single-handedly was a sacrifice for saving her teams tactics as well as their own special abilities works well in her team tactics. I still kind of feel sorry for those Queenvail duo that lost so miserably, one of them actually slipped her leg evading Julis's attacks. Makes me wonder in this tournament there were no stronger team on screen that are from Queenvail all-female school. Certainly there should be way more stronger female students from that school but not in this tournament for some reason. Last edited by rladls2121; 2016-05-07 at 14:53. |

Ayato-Julis won their first 2 rounds by fighting 2-1 alternatively
Ayato-Julis went 2-1 against Irene Jie Long Duo double teamed Ayato but was forcefully separated by Julis Jie Long Twins had quite good teamwork with their spells and timing More than half the battles on screen look like they took advantage of the 2-2 format pretty well despite the outcomes. WT is one of my favorite series but it's not really fair comparing WT battles with battles from Asterisk. WT team battles work so well because of the different positions, variety and triggers and abilities being mostly known to competitors hence they can plan beforehand. No position is perfect and they have to cover each other weakness. Meanwhile in Asterisk people try to give as less information as possible and a surprise can come at any time. 2 vs 2 battles work differently and there are also compatibility between the abilities involved which can work for and against the characters. Well Queenvail is the weakest school (i am pretty sure they said something like that earlier but i could be worng) and their expertise lies elsewhere than Festa and battles. For those 2 girls it was more about raising their popularity than winning. |

It is not surprising if Queenvail is actually the weakest.
Maybe aside from the Student Council President, who was only revealed her face in the opening, most of the students there we saw are rather only had the beautiful looks than a warrior. But we still has yet to see the other students that are ranked around 1-10. No wonder we have the impression that Queenvail is the weakest school since we only saw most of the weaker students than the stronger ones. I kind of like this series world settings actually, as I understand more about it, I grew up on this series. |

Yeah, I'm sure nobody would be able to recognize them in those disguises.
Great job Ayato, you managed to outfight a twelve year old. Jousting is a pretty stupid tactic against someone on foot, they can just step aside. And using armor against a fire user? He made it almost too easy for Julis. Pretty nice fight. Yeah, they dealt with them easily, but we got another plot going on so that's alright. And it's not like Ayato and Julis were ever underdogs in this tournament. They were the favorites right from the start. Wait, I don't remember,do they know he's working for the shadow organization already? Asking Irene wasn't a bad idea, but of course Dirk would have predicted that. Also, Ayato looks dorky. Not being a main character is frustrating! I like Camilia motivation. Her parents died because they couldn't fight trained warriors, so she wants to create weapons anyone can use. Ardi is such a great guy. It's almost a shame the two droids belong to a different school, they could become regulars. One would think that the random goons would be more wary of teenagers given that they are on an island full of super powered ones. A wild idol appears! Pretty good episode. I wonder if this season will end up with the final fight, or will there be something after that. If they don't stretch things out they could fit Flora rescue and the final into next 2-3 episodes. |

Not only Ayato's team is blackmailed, Kuune's side too maybe!!!?
Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean this episode's match, Ayato compared Elliot to Kirin, but saying Kirin is still above and beat him with not too much effort without his strongest weapon. And the older one, he was actually enduring that extreme heat Julis gave for the most of the time? These Galahadworth duo, they looked better in the opening. Their role just ended in one episode, I can't believe it!!! Even Saya and Kirin were saying the match was over so quickly, we did not misheard that!!!!! Ayato looks dorky? And he's kind of close to resemble to Haruka at the time in my opinion. Dirk's secretary, if she didn't say something unnecessary. |

Episode 18:
It's great to see Ernesta Kuhne dreaming of having AR-D and RM-C becoming students of Arlequint Academy and have equal rights too, while Camilla Pareto being grateful to Ernesta Kuhne for saving her life. Now then, let's hope Ayato Amagiri would save Flora Klemm after beating his opponents together with Princess Julis in the semi-finals! |

The fight maybe a bit underwhelming, but lets call it short. Either the 2 knights(a junior kid somemore) which is not even in top 10 of Galahadworths ranking having easy win through festa or Ayato/Yulis are beyond them, thats why the fight ends fast. hahaha

Episode 7:
Damn, Sylvia's like a goddess... No wonder she's ranked #1 at her school. That wasn't even much of a fight, more like an execution. The song was neat though, they put some decent effort into it. I really hope the final match of this tournament thing will be worth watching since the semi-finals felt really underwhelming.
