Yeah, not that inspired. Although wasn't there something about them using names of real flying legends in this show?

Yeah but Gramia? Then you have Boy Come Fart Bogue Con-Vaart... nah

Though to be fair, the idea of air cavalry had been played with by Kawamori in a number of his misc designs and sketches. Its finally coming into fruition, and ep 4 does not disappoint.

Maybe that's the reason for the xenophobia and the war? They just don't like their names.

Just realized Hayate dancing this episode wasn't reacting to Freyja's fold waves but to Mikumo's. Which means he doesn't exclusively react this way to Freyja.

BTW, how does the whole interspecies breeding work out? It's simply possible because the entire gamut of humanoid species was seeded by the Protoculture race?

You're reading too much into it. He was dancing because it was fun. He doesn't need weird powers to enjoy the music, and he was always good at dancing in a battroid.

We don't know about the Brisingr Alliance only that Roid mentioned them. Brisingr means fire. Which is interesting as Windermere is associated with Wind and Ragna is associated with water. Since we are traveling planets in this series encounter Sub-Protoculture home planet is possible.

On another note I remember in an episode of Macross Frontier a history teacher at Alto's class mention there are 17 known Protoculture planets. Worlds that were colonies or had artifacts. Worlds that we know of and possibly in the list were Earth, New Asia, Varauta, Rax and Ouroboros. Now we can add Windermere to that list. Since Mao Nome was the foremost expert on the Protoculture I wonder if she ever visited Windermere.

It is possible almost every seeded world has Protoculture ruins or relics. The most ancient relic on Zola that we know of were writings on the Whale bones that depict the White Whale as a a undying god. In Macross Frontier we learn that the Protoculture were animists. The Mayans worshiped the Protoculture as gods but they had other folklore. The Bird Human, the Fish Human and Kaduns. Mayans had a genetic memory of the Protoculture's culture.

Windermereans worship the Great Wind which to me suggest they are Kadun worshipers.

Valkyries are shielded by default. Pinpoint barriers however, provide focused shielding, and was present since the YF-19, which enhanced both defense and melee.

Semantics: If you're talking about Energy Conversion Armor, I would still lump that under "armor" since it's not projecting a field beyond the material surface itself, unlike the PPB.

Speaking of which, the MacrossWorld recap show for Episode 4 thought that this was the first time that a PPB actually had a status display, versus how the little circles usually just happened before. Perhaps the only other time PPB capacity figures were mentioned was the time that it blew up Canada, though I could be wrong.

We are mainly focused on PPBs here, and they have been present since YF-19 and YF-21 first rolled out. Do the VF-31s have improved versions? Yes. But new tech? Nah.

ECAs otoh, well, thats been around since the days of VF-1.

If there is any innovation at this point aside from the obvious improved power output on the VF-31, then its the internalized dual gunpods. Bonus if the VF-31 can fold without boosters.

Wuh? What happened to Coldnada?

On topic: Internal weapons tend to be backup features on the VF, but weren't used primarily. The VF-31 is the first to completely ditch the gunpoad.

YF-29

You mean the episode where Macross wiped out Canada's only city?
