It may be a form of an additional sensory / targeting array. From 00F we learn that as much as Dynames had the ability to snipe targets at long distances, orbit or underwater it lacked in the department of detecting enemies.

This here shows you aren't paying attention to what's going on in the episode at all. That part was for dramatic effect. Ian says that the delay from Trams-Am was carried to the second power, so its worked exactly like they said it would, it just took longer than expected.

Also, just because we aren't shown many (any) planning session or training montages, doesn't mean they don't happen. Setsuna was the last Meister recruited and he had two whole years to learn to pilot the Exia. They are probably as good as they are going to get. Any other advantage will come from a technological source.

Only in today's episode did I notice that the Gundams have a panoramic view from the cockpit, that is awesome.

I know. The new view screen has no blind spots. Plus the cockpit has so much more room too. I love the new pilot controls as well. They probably took a few tips from the Thrones' cockpits.

Spoiler for New Cockpit:

The CB engineers could have just been re-watching the Zeta DVDs. If you have Titans, they everything else follows.

Quite a bit, acutally. They had the full panoramic cockpit. Don't you remember those shots of Nena in her flightsuit with Haro between her legs?

Allow me to re-word it, 'cause it seems you misunderstood his question.

"When did Celestial Being get a chance to see the Throne cockpits?"

We're talking Ptolemaios & Co. here, not Trinity siblings.

Considering Celestial Being had the technical data and schematics for the three original Gundam Throne units on file (as Saji saw), it only makes sense for them to know what its like in the cockpit of the suit.

When the Thrones first visited the Ptolemy, Ian Vashti had the chance to actually look up the Throne's technical schamatics and snoop around. (episode 17). He even got the GN Drive [T] system schematics, which is how they knew the GN [T] doesn't have a TD Blanket.

It wouldn't be a stretch to think that Ian could've gotten the information from hacking the Throne's cockpits.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it the HRL's Tao Teiren that had the full view cockpit first?

You're absolutely correct.

I'm just answering the question of where the Ptolemy crew had the chance to see a panoramic cockpit up close.

And technically... even the Flag and Enact cockpits can be considered wrap-around cockpits, given the range of vision they provide. In terms of pilot monitors the Flag, Enact and Tieren Taozi actually provide superior vision to the Gundams.

It just could be that full cockpit monitors are the next logical step for the Gundams whether they had seen the Thrones or not.

GN-X's have had GN-based shields since Season 1: Patrick activated them to defend again Dynames' GN Missiles, and another pilot used them to unsuccessfully block the GN Arm's beam cannons.

I just noticed that for the original GN-X the short rifle becomes the long rifle with an added part. Does the two actually differ or are we just talking about looks?

The Long Rifle offers improved range and firepower at the cost of firing rate, while the SMG has a higher rate of fire. Hence why the long-rifle equipped GN-X's always stay as rear support units, and only engage in close combat when equipped with the SMG.
