Hmm, in that case, the の particle could be there, but has been omitted because it's obvious the speaker is talking of his own father. For example, if the previous speaker was talking of his own father before that.
私は (私の)父は新聞を読みながらご飯を食べます (As for me,) My father reads the paper while eating lunch. |

Alright, I have a few questions of my own. I'll provide the whole sentence to help context-wise. These are from a novel I'm reading called Ookami to Koushinryou (Spice & Wolf). ロレンスは精一杯どすを利かせたつもりだったが、娘は一向に動じない。 I’m a bit unsure about the meaning of the part I underlined/bolded. From what little I could find in my dictionaries, I think it has something to do with the inflexion of Lawrence’s voice. Am I right? Like saying something in a strong voice? 目の前の光景がどうしても信じられず、ロレンスはしまいには水の詰まった皮袋を手に取って、中の水で顔を洗ったのだった。 Same here, I don't understand the u/b'd part. It's easy to tell what the sentence means without it, but what is this word/verb? Thanks. |

and どすを利かせた must be shorten actual sentence is どすの利いた声でwhich means scare her with low voice used by yakuza(mafia). しまいには is usually translated as as last. also the しまいには used ( しまいには。。。。してしまった) that common sense to be used. してしまった means did something is not usual who had done with panic. auther is using that word as more expression than "at last" (ついに)、i guess learn must be fun http://wwjanime.blogspot.com |

Thanks ukiuki. I give you cookie, cookie. So the first part was pretty much like I thought. I saw the longer version in one of my dictionaries, and that's why I figured it was that. Thanks.

Thanks, ukiuki.
Kadokawa USA's official translation for 防衛省・超自然災害対策本部・特殊戦術隊 is "Ministry of Defense, Paranormal Disaster Countermeasure Headquarters, Special Tactics Troops" 特戦四課 is officially the "4th Division". So there ya go. Additional clarification is always appreciated by more fluent Japanese speakers here to help peeps like me trying to get around Japanese. Thanks.

If you wrote this in english first, mind writing the original script and then we can check for accuracy, nuance, etc?
I generally get the concept, but kinda turn my head a little at the first frame when the girl speaks. Since it's for humour, it'd probably be better to have a source first to check from.

「ザッシがありがとう」 is almost certainly wrong. As Mystique says, it depends on what you want to say - perhaps something on the lines of 「ザッシを作ってくれてありがとう!」or 「あなたが作ったザッシが大好きです!」. Though if you're using ザッシ for what you've just made, 漫画(まんが) or 4コマ might be better.
Also are you using katakana for ザッシ and ゼンブ for any particular reason? It's not WRONG, but it seems a little odd. |

Usually, you don't use katakana for nouns... Unless it's on a humorous TV talk show or something, katakana's only for foreign, onomatopoeic, and mimetic words. As Circular Logic said above, it's not wrong, but I can't say that it's right, either. At first I couldn't understand what ザッシ was; you mean magazine, 雑誌, right?

「雑誌がありがとう」is suppose to mean, "thank you for the magazine." Since it is a little out of context, maybe what you said 「あなたが作ったザッシが大好きです!」would be better. Along the lines of, "I love the magazine you made!" Quote:
