Cat registered as hypnotherapist

The regulation of hypnotherapists in the UK is so lax that even a cat can become accredited, the BBC has found.

Chris Jackson, presenter of Inside Out in the North East and Cumbria, registered pet George with three industry bodies.

Each one accepted a certificate from the non-existent Society of Certified Advanced Mind Therapists as proof of George's credentials.

Apparently someone registered a cat as a hypnotist in the US as well. Anyone who believes in hypnotherapy should keep this in mind. That hypnotherapist you're seeing? He might just be a cat who hypnotized you to think he was a person.

William Shakespeare: Computer Program Proves The Bard Didn't Work Alone

Scholars have long argued over whether William Shakespeare worked alone, collaborated, or even authored some of the works attributed to him.

Thanks to a computer program designed to detect plagiarism, researchers at the University of London claim they can put an end to the debate and prove that the Bard wrote at least one play, The Reign of King Edward III, in collaboration with playwright Thomas Kyd.

Sir Brian Vickers, the professor who led the research, used a software called Pl@giarism that was developed to catch cheating students. Using the program, Vickers compared the writing in Edward III with other plays from the same period.

Vickers found that the majority of the play fits Kyd's style, rather than Shakespeare's, the Times explains:

The Shakespeare matches came from four scenes, about 40 per cent of the play. The remaining scenes had about 200 matches with works by Kyd, best known for The Spanish Tragedy, a play known to have influenced Shakespeare, indicating that he wrote the other 60 per cent of the play.

As Switched observes, the finding is likely to ruffle feathers in academia as it gives scholars reason to rethink Shakespeare as a "lonely, independent author."

I'm not sure who thought that Shakespeare was a "lonely, independent writer", btu they were obviously unfamiliar with the fact that he was a playwright, not a novelist...

Whatever the case, this study seems a bit dubious. At best, this has proven that one play, not even part of the official Folios, was a collaborated effort. But, since it is unknown what the margin of error is for the study/test, it is also entirely possible that Shakespeare merely wrote part of his work in the style of this other playwright (if Shakespeare is as truely gifted as many have claimed, then writing in the style of another writer doesn't seem too far-fetched).

Mostly this finding makes me afraid of being randomly accused of plagiarism. It's not like everyone uses the same style all the time for everything.

Jakarta bans porn star from visiting Indonesia

Jakarta (Oct 14): Acting Culture and Tourism Minister Mohammad Nuh has issued a directive to deny entry to Japanese adult-video star Maria "Miyabi" Ozawa (note: not safe for work) to Indonesia.

Mr Nuh asked Mr Odi Mulya Hidayat from Maxima Pictures, the sponsor of Miyabi's planned visit here, to heed the directive and cancel the starlet's visit, which has triggered an outcry from the religious right.

At the meeting, Maxima Pictures agreed to keep to the directive in order to avoid drawing out the controversy, the release said.

Dozens of students of the State Islamic Institute in Kudus, Central Java, took to the streets to protest Miyabi's planned visit to Indonesia. They torched women's underwear during their protest. Women activists, however, had welcomed the star's visit.

D’après une nouvelle étude concernant le comportement des individus vis-à-vis des sites de réseaux sociaux, 36 % des personnes de moins de 35 ans interrogées avouent se connecter à Facebook ou Twitter immédiatement après avoir fait l’amour.
L’étude a été réalisée par le site Retrovo.com et le résultat à la question "que faites-vous après l’amour" est plutôt étonnant puisque que 36% des moins de 35 ans expliquent se connecter sur un site de réseau social. De plus, les hommes seraient deux fois plus nombreux que les femmes à parler de leurs exploits sexuels sur ce genre de site. Pour cette étude, c’est près de 780 personnes qui ont été sollicitées.

Cette nouvelle étude met en avant la place prédominante qu’occupent aujourd’hui les sites du genre de Twitter et Facebook. Dans la catégorie adolescent/jeune adulte, ce sont plus de huit personnes sur dix qui se connectent de façon quotidienne à Facebook, et parmi ces accros du net, près de 3 personnes se 10 avouent se connecter aux sites de réseaux sociaux plus de dix fois par jour.

Either you or that news paper understood this the wrong way. Its more like 36% of those who actually use twitter/facebook use it right after sex. Of'course this is not proven, just a silly statistic.

Well, this is about people actually using twitter/facebook. I'ld say its not so strange that young twitter/facebook users use the service daily.

I hate viral marketing... though its really clever of twitter/facebook. Especially since twitter needs a little backup for their negotiations over deals with either Microsoft or Google. (corporate nonsense )

The news talks about people in general (everyone). I don't know if they understood it the wrong way.

I have no clue. But it sounds rather silly to do that imo. To think that people between 18 and 35 do that makes me want to facepalm. What kind of adults they are? Seriously...

I don't think a forum like Asuki and a site like FB can be compared just like that. I think Obama was right when he said some things about facebook (in a documentary i watched, when he said that "if a person wants to become president someday, they should be careful about what they post on facebook and such"). I still think that posting private informations, and photos everyday on the net about yourself (but also photos and infos that include the faces and names of people you know, and sometimes without any authorization. If any person I know do that about me, be sure that I will lodge a complaint if i ever hear about it.) can be quite dangerous.

You'ld be surprised. But even the company who made that survey claims that it is applicable for internet users in general.
Now they made a little mistake when they have chosen their sample group (statistics is all about a sample group that is generalized/extrapolated on all people). They're target group (as a company) is a tech gadget loving and internet affined group. So, they will basically recrute their sample group from such people. Thats already a little bit fishy imo. Now, since the company who made this survey is heavily involved in advertising on facebook and twitter, the "quality" of the sample group and the results of this survey are equaly suspicious.
Every news paper that relies their journalism on this data... well lets say... it is not exactly news. Its more like viral marketing.
