As for the content of this arc, let's just say that this is not everyone's favorite arc in the manga, and the anime can only follow what's generally written and drawn on the manga pages. So...yeah.

It was a good season overall imo. They remained faithful to most of the storytelling although it looks like they pushed the Kanda Yuu/Alma story angle.
The comedy was amusing and action was good. Wish they put more budget into some of the episodes in the latter half though. However, I think the finale ended at a good place although we'll probably get another season ...like never or in another 8+ years. 8/10. That OP theme song is also really starting to grow on me..

In case someone is interested: http://arystarkrory.co.vu/post/17747...w-with-hoshino
Also, even Hoshino said the Order left a really bad taste with this story arc

Like most of you, I watched the season's finale yesterday.
There were lots of misfortunes against Allen, since everyone at the Order presumed he murdered Link and escaped seemingly with the Noah, but the truth is murkier on the deep with the appearance of Apokryphos and it chasing after Allen. What I feel is that the story arcs following after the Alma Karma story were setting up the narrative so that the story can eventually take the audience towards the core of the mysteries on: 1. Nea's relationship with the Earl, 2. the hidden story of the Holy War that Cross cryptically warned Allen about at the start of this season, 3. and the truth about Heart and what's the Innocence. With a big smile I can claim that Hallow's season finale ended with a high note, although Allen taking his destiny on his own matters without siding with either the Noah and the Order leaves him on a bleak path fill with the misfortune that Nea is attempting to devour him in order to be reborned again. Yet, so tragic that Allen's present situation has become he continues, nonetheless, walking forward on his own path as long as he recalls the memories of his beloved Mana, which grants the boy a tiny speck of bright hope for things to come in the future. |

Yeah, well...this happened.
If nothing else this series was a lesson that good shows...sometimes should just stay classics. Probably not going to add this to the mix whenever I rewatch the show. A lot of odd choices and rush in this thing. They did what they could with the material and the limited episode count. Could have been worse. And yes the recasting of the voice actors sucked badly. Great way to hype up a return to a show, change the voices so everyone sounds incredibly generic.

This is the end for this season, and I'm already five shows (including this one) finished.
I made the math, and had they picked-up the pace at adapting the average 2-3-4 manga chapters to a tv episode including what they left out from the manga and adding some material from the light novels, then they would have ended with around 18 episodes, that's stretching it; not enough to warrant a two cours season. Hence, I do understand why they skipped an arc, as well as eliminating some contents and cramming too much manga material in the earlier episodes to this season's. Besides, having a few issues with drops in animation quality from episode to episode I do not regret returning to this show. D.Gray-man is my favorite shounen anime and manga, and I'm glad my favorite characters made a comeback. What makes me sad is that I, like everybody else who loves this show, have now to endure the endless waiting once again until the manga makes for a very significant progress so more material becomes available to warrant another sequel season in another 8+ to 20 years as much. So, obviously, I'm returning back with my life doing and tending to my business, but still I'll have the satisfaction to rewatch D.Gray-man Hallow in two weeks from now in time for this year's Halloween season. |

I overall loved this season - it was so packed, maybe fast paced sure but not exactly rushed either. The character relationships & such were already established since the fairly long 1st season so they wasted no time, which was for the best considering all the reveals & twists we got - talk about curve balls.
In a way, this season could be summed up as "being Allen is suffering", yet that only makes me appreciate his character even more for walking forward despite all that. Not much of the usual shounen shenanigans "I fight for my friends!" this season either. Hell, Allen's on his own for a now - the gray in the D.Gray man becomes apparent in this season. The Order did some nasty shit, and they're suffering the consequences of their actions now, yet when you think about it it's still the side to actually support overall because there's no better option out there(even if it's impossible for Allen right now). Like, Tykki & Road are cool & all but rooting for the Earl & his Noahs ain't exactly an option, seeing what he does with people's souls. I'd hope the Order would see some change when it comes to the higher ups - or heck, see it reformed, but with D.Gray, you never know which curve the ball's go next, and I dread to think how long will it take for another season to grace our screens. The most reasonable things to hope for is probably Hoshino releasing chapters more frequently. |

It's official! All DVDs and blurays were cancelled despite staff's work to improve the animation. Wonder what will happen to Funimation's release of the series

That... doesn't bode well for the series at all. Must've had some absolutely abysmal pre-orders to just outright cancel the releases. Like, not enough to even justify the pressing costs.
Funi will probably just use the TV versions, plus MAYBE any updates that they completed. That said, wouldn't be surprised if, later on down the line at some point, they just release the whole season as a set like Silver Spoon season 2 did. |
