^again, i said the gameplay was far from perfect. for me, the combat system was somewhat addicting, managing an entire team through the course of a battle. of course, there were major issues as you said, but for some, the battle system was the only thing that kept them playing. I've only played ToZ so i can't compare it to the previous tales games.

In actual Berseria news, the game released. Early impressions I'm reading are pretty positive.

Couple of things to note:

• Word is that the AI is improved and better than both Zestiria and Graces
• There's a traitor in the party, as per usual
• May be connected to Symphonia/Phantasia
• Early impressions liken it to Xillia 1 in terms of how good the game is
• Eizan isn't the only Zestiria character to return (see below)
• Darkest Tales game yet (with more "realistic" edge than Xillia 2's over the top edge)

Some circumstantial evidence pointing to Seres and Lailah being the same person.

However, other evidence points to that not being the case unless somehow she's special and can be reborn twice.

another info, difficulty system is exactly the same as zesty, lower EXP rate at higher difficulty, which sucks, a lot, and a very cheap way of "challenging player" by making us way weaker instead of actually making enemy more difficult. the only difference between very hard and very easy would be damage and grind time...

yeah, I wish they had done something similar to Graces where the higher the difficulty the more bonus points you get, that way it encourages players to push the difficulty. I remember only playing Graces in Hard mode and above just to get more points for titles

That ending seems so happy, but when you think what happens to two of the characters in Zestiria, it becomes a bit more grim. Also what happened to Velvet?

I double dip all the time, Playstation Something jpn import and then whatever the best version is available as localised version. Technically I don't think there will be any waiting time for the West release, it is only if you want to import or not.
Battle system is different from ToZ, as the artes are not fixed and can be customised the way you want. Basically the facebutton.. i just notice it is kind of hard to explain. I'll try to do it after work, maybe with some screenshot from the demo, unless my copy arrives...

It looks like she seals herself in order to try and purify both herself and the previous Lord (forget his name, but Zestiria off-handedly mentions the Lord that was before Maotelus). Like Maotelus in Zestiria, the previous Lord was corrupted by Malevolence (if not always evil).

I´m 75% done with Tales of Zestiria right now and can´t wait to put my claws on Berseria but could someone explain to me why this darkest of all Tales games to date? I know this is a revenge story and hardly a happy subject but I´d love some examples, I don´t mind spoilers.

I haven't played the game yet (only out in Japan atm), but from what I can gather

the entire premise of the game, including Velvet's motivation and vengeance, stems from a Artorius sacrificing a young boy - Velvet's brother for the sake of obtaining the powet to "save" the world. He did it with a straight face as if it was a natural thing to do, and his entire order of Exorcists - the Abbey also share the same twisted ideal

I just received my copy, but from experience all Tales titles can be viewed form a "dark perspective". in most of them, the hero sacrifices him/herself to save the world and you have plot twist and turns. But in the past the visiual style is more colourful, maybe that is the reason people are saying this. IIRC people said the same thing about Xillia2, but it wasn't any darker than other Tales titles in my opinion.

It is a sad day, ToB copy arrives and Nioh demo is out >_<

Not sure about Xillia 2 not beign darker than other Tales games. That game was forcing out bleak things were. There is nothing optimistic I can say at the end of that game. Tales games do have a fair number of cases where the future is a bit uncertain. I felt Xillia 2 constantly went beyond that.

I see, so that´s why is dark, it seems to me that this coexistence Zorey was talking about was not as nice as he dream about. What kind power did Artorius obtain with the sacrifice? Something like that only create Malevolence like that time with Heldalf.

IIRC Xillia 2 had mutiple ending, i only got the one where MC delete himself from the world, giving Ellie the chance to live. I would say that this was a happy ending. But the game was so blant, that I cannot even remember the MC's name :/

I'm just few hours in, but so far ToB has too many comedic moments to be called a dark. And I'm talking about happy comedy, no dark comedy.
