On a totally unrelated note, though possibly more on topic than the current topic, I came up with the most crackpot theory (one which has probably already been said more than once) I've ever had and felt a strange urge to share it.

The entire series is a badfic self-insert written by Mikuru. It explains little Mikuru's rampant Mary Sue tendencies and the male protagonist being inherently attracted to her. I'm pretty sure I'm throwing out 3/4ths of the whole series on this one...

The tiredness must be getting to me.

I've actually suggested something similar, except it was Kyon, not Mikuru:

Since Ryanasaurus doesn't appear to step out of the Genderbending thread (at least he never posts anywhere else, which is hopefully the same thing), all of you Seitenkan folk do me a favour and just completely ignore everything he says. Please. It might make him go away faster, which is the closest thing we will get to peace until he is hopefully banned.

Tanigawa looks practically identical to Kyon, and has admitted the series is based off of the story of how he met his wife in high school.

So yeah, Kyon is technically an Author Avatar/Mary Sue/whatever.

It could be any of the girls from the first book. Though I doubt it was Mikuru.
