Oh dear. S**t's hitting the fan.
Summary of chapter 70 up.

continuation of Isuzu and Rudy's conversation

Isuzu is shocked that the landers only had 42 songs.
Rudy continues to tell her how important and moving it is for her to provide these new songs as she travels.
But Isuzu breaks down in tears at the guilt, she had no idea how much her "stealing songs" was affecting them.
She feels she's a fake, and a liar. These landers are giving her more credit than she deserves.

But Rudy tries to comfort her, telling her what the Landers' POV to Akiba is.
The landers of Akiba holds a meeting every once in a while to discuss their findings.
The exchanges there are mostly in awe of discoveries. How to train steel. How to make pestisides with tea. etc.
Adventuers bring new discoveries to their life every day, and he tells her how wonderful it is.

She realizes how different the views are between the adventuers and landers.
Givers and learners. Those who takes things for granted, and those who marvel at the knowledge.
She feels even more ashamed and egoistic. She asks him to leave her alone for a while.

Meanwhile, Tohya comes across Dariella on the bridge.
They exchange greetings, and chat for a while.
He feels a bit embarassed at her allure and charm, as they chat about the region, where she's from (she tells him she's from an area the adventures would know as Kyoto), the Plant Hwyaden peacekeeping the area, etc.
She invites him to come visit her home sometime, but Tohya instinctively senses something dangerous about her.

The market in the town of Saphir is bursting with business.
Minori and Serara are shopping for grocerey through the market.
They are worried that telepathy stopped working. They can't reach Shiroe or Nyanta.
After some research, it seems the Shrine of Boreas, the portable shrine the Knights of Odyssea were carrying, jams telepathy communication in the entire region, including Saphir.
But the effect area seems way too huge, Minori suspects there's another Boreas shrine in the town somewhere.
The party is still three days walk away from their destination, and Minori is worried she can't report their findings to Shiroe.

It seems something is happening here. The Shrine of Boreas. The Knights of Odyssea. The strange woman named Roe2 that seems eerily similar to Shiroe.
She ponders if they should give up this quest and head back to Akiba or not.
Of course, there's a possibility that ther telepathy stays unusable even if they manage to return..

As they ponder what Roe2 is going to do, and what the rest of their party are doing, the two girls notices somethign in the sky.
Something is heading their way from Mt Fuji.

It was a horde of countless Wyverns.. way more than a hundred, flying towards the town of Saphir...!

Spoiler for Interesting titbit about Private Chats here =3:

It's revealed in this chapter that Private Chat requires the use of both hands. It's like what we see in the anime: when you want to make a call, you have to manually scroll through the Friend-List and select the person you want to disturb. For the person receiving the call, he'll have to manually pick up the call as well.

For this reason alone, using Private Chat is inconvenient in combat. Whereas in the case of Party Chat, all you need to do is just call out and you'll be heard.

With all that's happening in this chapter, it looks like the Juniors have the work cut out for them

Also, it's noticed that Mamare tends to keep to nine chapters per "volume" for his web-releases. If this is indeed a trend, we could have another two more chapters before he moves on to the next "volume". Which means the Route 43 arc may actually be a two-volume arc like the Summer Camp arc (it's impossible to wrap everything up with just two more chapters).

Subclass: Accountant (.... eh?)
Style: Katana+Heavy Armor; frontline tank and Hate controller. As expected of Naotsugu's disciple *nods*.
Another thing about Touya is that he's also taking kenjutsuu lessons at the West Winds', under Soujicchi's tutelage iirc. So interacting with pretty ladies shouldn't really be a big deal for him (too)?

Style: Khakkhara+Ofuda; Preventive healing via damage blocking spells + combat monitor.

I compiled a list of subclasses and released them yesterday. As expected, though, most translations are probably sub-par, but the list is the most comprehensive one I've seen.

If anyone knows Japanese and were charitable enough to fix/help out, I would be eternally grateful.

Soul Blade

A new subclass introduced with the <Homesteading the Noosphere> (aka Catastrophe/May Revolution) update.

The concept behind it is that by "installing" his soul into a weapon of choice, the player/Adventurer can consecrate it into a Maken that gains various abilities as it grows. Maken (魔剣) is literally "magic sword", though in this case, it may be more appropriate to translate it as "demonic sword", the reason which you may notice later on in the rest of my text.

This consecration places a penalty on the Adventurer's attributes, which can be offset by equipping the Maken; in fact growing/developing the Maken is akin to increasing the Soulblade's attributes. As the subclass level grows, the Maken's share of one's soul increases as well, as well as the penalty on the owner's attributes and the bonuses received when equipping the Maken (in other words, leveling this class powers up the Maken at the expense of the Adventurer). Also, it is possible to develop original techniques through the use of the Maken.

The Soulblade has an unique way of leveling its class, through hunting a certain amount of a specified monster or through victory in duels with other magic swordsmen (魔剣士, it can be other players or even NPCs). In fact, the job-change quest itself is also about "defeating a swordsman bewitched by a magical sword".

Note that although the class is called "Soul Blade", the target weapon is not restricted to just swords; axes, spears, bows, etc can be used as well. In the case of staves or other spelluser weaponry, it's possible for magic prowess (rather than physical damage) to be raised instead.

Btw the description for the Housekeeper actually belongs to the Housewife or Househusband. In other words it's the Housewife/husband that could use the low level skills of the Chef, Tailor, Farmer, Brewmaster, Dairy Farmer, Housekeeper and Herbalist skills.

Also, according to what's stated in lhrpg.com, the Maid and Elder Maid has the Cooking skill as well.

there were so many questionable sub class... what the hell with NEET? is it so popular in japan to the point an MMORPG would make it into a subclass? i swear this term always appeared in every series i followed! and executioner class seem nasty, since you can judge a lander as much as you like... also a bit curious about swordsaint. is it ever stated any other players had this subclass beside souji?

Apparently, people really like those Not in Education, Employment, or Training. XD (Maryelle's one in real life, after all.)

Oddly enough, none of the docs or resources have any info on Sword Saint, which is why it's the only Special Title with no description.

Surprisingly, none that I could see. But I think the novel has been rather clear about what it can do. Also, considering that Serara needs the Newly-Wed's Apron to Cook (and the fact that the Housekeeper wasn't included in the list of subclass with Cooking), I can safely say that Housekeepers can't Cook =3

Another Saturday, another chapter

chapter 71

The wyverns are late level 40s to 50s.
(There are such thing as level 90-ish wyverns, but haven't been spotted here yet)

The Odyssea Knights charge in, with two members carrying the portal shrine.
Their eyes are maddened, and they fight like they're insane. They are level 90 adventurers, but the sheer number of wyverns overwhelm them and they die one after another, only to rez near the portable shrine so they can jump back into the fray. The shrine seems perfect for zombie rush lol)

Of course, they lose EXP every time they die, and they don't rez with full HP.
A sorcerer casts a massive AOE spell, killing not only wyverns but his own teammates.
But the mad warriors charge in with glee right as they rez, and repeatedly die.

The kids watch the fight with horror, but Roe2 calmly observes the usefulness of the portable shrine.
She talks mysteriously about the Knights "willing to provide Empathium" and their actions must help the "Collectors named Genius", and that this may all be part of the Genius' plan.
(She mentions the name "Collectors", but the rubi says "Genius". You know, the evil mysterious villains we first saw in the spin-off)

Touya argues that the shrine is evil, and Roe2 tells him the Knights seems to desire death.
They are addicted to death like drugs, and paying the "Empathium" as price for it.
She then continues that she doesn't understand why "your people" form such inefficient social structure. She seems to find human societies illogical.

Minori has been silent the whole time, deep in thoughts, but she finally asks the question. Roe2, who are you really?

Meanwhile, Isuzu and Rudy. The telepathy to friends list isn't working, but party chat seems to be working fine. Rudy finds Isuzu putting on her gears and getting ready, but it's clear she was crying her eyes out. He's worried, but she pushes him out of the room and heads to join up with Minori & others together. (about 1/3 of the chapter is spent here with their conversation, Rudy acting bold and arrogant on purpose to cheer up Isuzu, Isuzu punching him, etc, etc)
Rudy uses spell of flying shoes to levitate himself and Isuzu, to run faster. The two reach the battlefield, and jump into the action, striking at the wyverns.

Scene changing to some time ago.... armored vehicles runs through the forest. Druids spells using dryads and treants force the forest to move and make path for the cars. General Mizufa is in one of the vehicles. The cars are created by the Adventurers, who deemed the vehicles useless byproduct of experiments attempting to create flying vehicles, but being a Lander, Mizufa finds the vehicles useful.
The adventurers like to invent new things, but they are easily bored and always tries to improve the technology. But for Mizufa, an army general, ability to mass produce uniform arms is far more important. She has ten of these armored vehicles (which uses some form of mana reactor developed with help from Jered=Gun) under her command.

Mizufa orders summoner landers under her command to use Servant Summoning Beads to summon Nightshades. The summoners control the nightshades to scout the region. These were also given to her by adventurers who thought the items as nothing but joke items, but to landers, this is like giving them a new immortal body. Not only that, but the summoners gain the EXP earned by the shades.
She then orders them to use EXP potions by injection. Apparently injecting them with needles enhances the effect, but also damages the body. Kazuhiko of Minami ordered this method not to be used for moral reasoning, but Mizufa laughs evilly. She doesn't care.

She sends her forces to drive the wyverns out of their nests, for two reasons. To power level her men, and to drive the wyverns to nearby cities, damaging the population of Eastal. She is looking for war. Only in war can she earn valor and power.

As she orders Londark to go with her men to the frontline, her car comes to an abrupt stop.
An adventurer... a were-cat adventurer appeared in front of the vehicles, slaying all the nightshades in front of him. Mizufa gets up on her feet to clash with the adventurer...!!

My God so many revelations in this chapter that it overwhelmed me

Unbelievable those guys The Knights of Odyssea are now just complete Mad Dogs, it is not losing your memory but your also seem to lose your sanity as well now they are like drug addicted Dogs

Now it seems the Geniuses are finally playing introduced in the main storyline and from the look of things there the ones behind this whole situation which might explain the knights actions they may have been deluded by them.

Roe2 is now going Spock on us ? lol

Rudy and Izuzu are still having there lovers quarrel lol but it looked they worked it out at the end.

Looks like they finally managed to invent armoured vehicle transportation which i always if they can manage since there were so many abandoned vehicles in elder tale it made u wonder why they haven't tried yet? i mean if they can invest a giant steam powered vessel like the octype why not a motor vehicle but it looks like they finally did it.

Looks like the Lander people of the western area are also mad i mean injections, sacrifice of peoples lives to monsters and wanting war just what is wrong with them?

If that is Nyanta at the end it is about effing time that he is going to get back into the action i mean seriously out of all the Log horizon members he is possibly the least one focused on, i mean he has probably been playing the game since the launch of the beta and he is older than any other adventurers we know so i can imagine he is a veteran player of the highest calibre and yet he is really never focused much and we dont really know his character do we? he is third best when it comes to PV combat and he dosent have any phantasmal equipment so he has got to be the best out of all them.

oh i cant wait what sort of potentials this would bring, things are really getting exciting now

Good lord, the Landers are starting to get influenced by the destructive power of modern technology combined with magic.

I remember the big debate about how modern armaments such as tanks, guns and the like were "useless" to build because the adventurers didn't need them. But most people discounted the other side of the equation. The Landers. See how the Landers perceive even "joke items" to be more useful for warfare. War mongerers and generals will be filled with glee to have the ability to develop and use standardized mass weaponry. And it seems that any Lander of any level can use them.

Speaking of Roe2 going Spock, this is the reason why the Federation had the Prime directive. Giving the natives powerful technology could result in MAD. XD

I wonder if someone in the other Adventurer city-states are trying to develop long-range non-server limited technology. It would certainly help with the dissemination of information across the continents for scientists/alchemists.

Speaking of which, it seems we're getting more information on how the Genius are important to the story line. Great development.
