They did well adapting this particular chapter however this is one of the most cringe worthy chapters for me so I didn't really like this episode in particular. <_<

Too much school, not enough killing.

Yay finally Mika appeared, he looks so badass. I guess we will see his backstory in next episode.

ep 3

Was an okay episode that mainly served it's purpose in introducing the Cursed Gear. I don't the anime staff was trying surprise with Mika actually being alive (or undead now I guess) so it's understandable why that scene lacked any impact. Anyway Shinoa is still most entertaining about the show so a far, but it looks we are finally moving out of this prologue soon.

It almost did for me too, but then I thought "why a school?". They just needed to keep the youngsters in one place. It could have been literally anything. So why bother with a school?

Anime is insanely better than the manga, despite the same material. This shows what a good studio and staff can do to a story. The BGMs, atmosphere created, and seiyuu acting make a lot of things better. And the pacing was good too.

Looks like next ep will explain how Mika became a vampire but, from his reaction to the other vampire (who not surprising wasn't killed), it seems that Mika doesn't like what he has become nor consider the other vampires any differently than when he was human.

I sense a tragedy here - fate set up two best friends on opposite sides and being used by 2 opposing fractions.

It would have been better if Yuu was able to contract with a demon weapon on his own (i.e. one that was fated for him) and not one chosen for him by the Lieutenant. I also wonder how the military group found these demons and contracted with them as weapons in the first place? They're as shifty as the vampire clan.
Don't sweat it. There's an entire series dedicated to that. Though I doubt you will get much details except surface explanations in the show.

the senyuu of ferid is soo fitting, it's even better that what i had imagined when reading the manga

about the pacing next episode should be faster (2 chapters into 1 episode), wonder if the pace will accelerate or if it'll happen only some times

A school conveys a strong sense of normalcy. After all, that's precisely the impact it had on some of us viewers, which is why some of us didn't like it.

An atmosphere and image of normalcy can be useful in shrouding things. This school seems designed to make the kids think that the human adults have regained control of the situation (the situation in the aftermath of Virus-day), and that everything will be nice and fine as long as the kids trust and obey the human adults.

Yeah, but Shinoa seemed to say they don't have the margin for a normal school and only did it to gather potential recruits. So why not something useful like a workshop or a militia training center?

Also it's not like the theoretical main purpose of the school is useless. The virus killed off adults, leaving children whose education topped out around the end of middle school/start of highschool. If you want to rebuild civilization, you'll need to actually educate those children as they grow up so they can take over maintaining, restoring, and expanding infrastructure. 16-18 year olds with a basic education are a lot more valuable to an army commander than a bunch of 13 year olds with little to no education.

I'm kind of confused on how the heck the demon managed to possess the dumb bully if it couldn't pull that off with Yuu, it's not like he's any more emotionally mature.

Zero shock with the friend being alive and being a vampire, no real point in having a dramatic reveal when you have him in half the OP .

Shinoa was hilarious as usual and she did get some pretty fancy moments on the roof showing the pure power that her weapon has.
I don't think that emotional maturity maters as much as you'd think it would. If they adhere to myth, the demon pretty much tried to find a mentally weak host or something like that. As willful as Yuu is, I doubt he'd lose to a demon.

Because they still need to rebuild a society. The ones that don't get recreuited for the army will need to learn other stuff. And having balanced adults will aid the most to building society once again.

Since the girl was going on about breeding and such, Yuu should have just asked her if she would like to mate with him, I'd like to see her reaction.

Yu is... a true idiot. Seriously, this guy really can't spend a minute to just think. Shinoa warned him the dangers of being unprepared and the need for training and preparation. The only reason he made it through was because of pure plot armor and because the story said so. He should have remained possessed by the demon, and the Moon Company should have come and rescue him so he would learn his lesson.

Also, the worst kept secret is finally out of the bag... Mika is alive.. sort of. It looks like he has become a vampire, and... uh.... yeah, preview title confirmed it with a sledge hammer. Now, the question remaining is, how did he grow up? If he was turned into a vampire at his death scene, then he should have stayed immortal as a shouta. I don't think the anime will ever explain that part.

*in monotone voice* Oh my god!, I never saw that ending coming *gasp* *shock* No waayyy. -_-

Pretty good anime, even though I can tell what's gonna happen before it does (haven't read the manga) it's still entertaining, although the MC's obsession with Mika is kinda losing me here, too heavy handed just to make us "worry" about them whenever they face off against each other and all the face touching they do to each other makes me wanna punch someone, just stop anime we get it they were close big deal.

That quick duel between Yu and Shinoa was fantastic, props to him for being able to fight her almost at the same level using a normal weapon, though naturally he ended up overwhelmed. Lots of info about these stylish devices known as cursed gears and also why the school exists as a talent recruitment center for the Demon Company. Not a normal school, of course.

Finally Yu is able to beat his inner demons and is ready to get his own gear, not an axe but that katana seen in OP/promo art. And Mika returns as vampire but we already knew that.

Animation for Shinoa's combat style was top notch. As expected of WIT.

I was kinda ready to drop the hell out of this after ep 2. Glad I didn't. A recruiting ground masquerading as a school? I didn't think of that, that's a very nice twist. Also gg for that meta comment Shinoa, lol.

As for Yu, color me surprised that I'm not quite annoyed with him now. He is intriguing. We have learned he isn't much for teamwork right now because he's still traumatized over losing people dear to him. I am looking forward to the moment when he realized that he can let go of that trauma and start to believe in his new friends, though of course it will probably come after a period of angst after learning about Mika.

I'm happy with the explanation for the existence of the school.

Revelation of Mika being alive was as clumsy as I thought it would be, but that was expected after ep.2. They dug that hole for themselves

And that's really the only semi-negative thing that can be said about this show so far. Everything else is great.
It appears to be carefully written and the characters appear to be well constructed. I enjoyed the introduction of the cursed gear and explanations. Helps that the animation is top notch- Shinoa's gear looked awesome

The animation for Shinoa's cursed armament is indeed nice but the seiyuu for her makes her more lovely. I'm liking the anime more than the manga and its really surprising while thinking about Kagami's past animated works. I hope I didn't jinx the show because its really awesome.

So far, how long is it? 2 cour or 1 cour? I hope for 2 cour.

ah aahha Shinoa for best girl this season like as for megumi on the past season.
