madoka had only 12 episodes and it's as awesome as fk
as long as the story is tight, and the inner characters are explored well enough, and the climax being fantastic, I don't care how long this show is. (Edit:....i guess pun intended?)

They gave away the first 2 episodes on free blu-ray 1-2 weeks ago, so basically a lot of people already saw them. The actual thing is a spring 2013 anime, and its premiere was ... 1 hour ago ^^

Gargantia 01 - AQUA - Fall
This is going to be a little odd, but when watching this, the closest thing I could compare this to is Hataraku Maou-sama in the way it stirred with my emotions. Namely, knowing from the promotional art that the opening moments were just a prologue, I was waiting for them to hurry it along so I could get to what the show was really about, even if these opening moments were important in establishing context. Both also involve a young man and his partner from a war-torn world coming to Earth and dealing with a language barrier, though I don't think Ledo's going to work at MgRoland's. I had forgotten it even was a mecha show. All the preview stuff suggested a sort of high-seas/peaceful adventure. Not quite as everyday life as ARIA... is comparing Urobuchi to ARIA even possible? This is the first Urobuchi show I've watched since Madoka because the color palette and arrangement of the cast, gritty this world may be, actually has bright colors, people with smiles on their faces, an atmosphere that radiates some kind of hope. Amy's really the only one who got any screentime of the Earthlings, but if she's going to be the Chiho to his Maou, I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of her. The show's got some nice visuals, something of a sense of humor (what Amy was really saying... a similar joke was used in Jinrui) and even the mecha are kind of cool. Let's see where this goes. |

Wow, I love this! The setup's traditional scifi-esque and bloody brilliant. Solid direction by Kazuya Murata, he really got that beautiful setting nailed, with that bright, nomadic artstyle he brought from FMA milos.
Also really love that touch of detail giving both races a unique tongue. I imagine funnier moments will be coming from this. "Reproducing with your mother" and "Excrement", heh. |

Wow.
This is the first episode this season of any show to truly blow me away. Attack on Titans was very good, but I wasn't exactly in awe there. Part of me is probably just so excited to have a legitimate mecha TV series after so many years of utter shit. But damn, IG is being a powerhouse this season with the visuals. This looked gorgeous. Love the BGM so far too. Man, I been craving something like this for awhile. The episode was over before I even knew it. It flew by. Best premiere of the season IMO.

The many lasers in the first half kept desyncing the audio/video and subtitles for me.
But got enough of the idea. The 2nd half was nicely done. Loved how it handed the two differing languages. And the pilot's VA did a great job imo of portraying the confusion of where he ends up. Also the talking computer is great.

Ok first post here, but definetly not the last. Boy, that was fun. The setting looks interesting, both the space and post apocalyptic yet beautiful earth parts, and looks great too. as for our main character, I quite like hi already, despite being the clear cut soldier type he's doesn't come off as souless or a douche, and can do pretty cool stuff (see the pat), and talking mecha with possibilities of bro moments is always nice (cliched, I know but, it always works for me). It's hard to believe Urobuchi is participating in this, though you can see some signs, like the whole hypnotism thing, but it feels more relaxed than anything right now.
Oh, by the way, I found something interesting regarding the (possible) direction this might take. Spoiler for Commentary:

That was a truly wonderful episode. Watching this episode, I can really believe Urobuchi and Kazuya are actually gonna give a touching story.
Best premiere of the season.

Checked out the show since it was updated on Crunchyroll and the colors looked pretty. Never heard of it or seen any of the director's or author's work, but it grabbed my attention. Mainly for more pretty colors and cool animation, but the characters are interesting. Having Ledo land on Earth is a nice twist to the normal space mecha show, so I wonder where the show is going to head from here. And I like the Heroine as well.
