Another short chapter continuing from last time, here's Past, Part II:

General Maxim turned around to face Kay, then continued his story.

“Our course of action involved the capture of this girl for interrogation, and we did so for weeks without success. Only with the arrival of Enforcer Testarossa Haraown’s assistance were we able to formulate an effective plan of action to capture the target. An ambush had been set up to facilitate the plan. And the day finally arrived, and we executed the plan.

But no plan ever survives contact with an enemy. And no preparation could have anticipated for the power that girl possessed, endowed to her by a Lost Logia. The little girl became the avatar of destruction incarnate, both in form and in spirit. Only one word could describe her… Balrog.”

At the mention of the demon’s name, Maxim opened a large holodisplay, that displayed a sight that sent chills down my spine.

“A great pitch black demon, wreathed in blazing golden flame Wielding its burning swords, and its visage that stared into dark depths of the soul and made even the most stalwart of men tremble with fear. We quickly found ourselves outmatched by the Great Demon’s powers. Even the powers of an S-class mage proved ineffective against the Balrog. It was only through our stubborn persistence that we barely managed to hold out against it and eventually defeat it.

But the cost was unbearable. Five of my best men...”

He stopped to catch himself, his expression solemn.

“… Five were killed in the Demon’s rampage. And six more psychologically traumatized by the Demon’s psychic attacks. Eleven men, all of whom I have looked upon as if they were my children. Including Private Shinobu.”

I could see where this was going… And Kay’s expression became increasingly troubled.

“To this day, none of us could still stomach what happened to Shinobu, and it happened so quickly…”

A sigh, one that carried a lot of pain.

“She had gone on the offensive in support of our plan, bearing the incredible heat of the flames that emitted from the great demon. She fought bravely, valiantly with all her strength. But she alone would be no match for the incarnate of evil. All it took was a single stroke.”

The General choked, trying to find the words to continue.

“A single deadly stroke, that dismembered the girl in half.”

I’m not sure how any of us managed to keep out guts together when he mentioned that… but I couldn’t remove the image that had formed in my head. It sickened me to the core.

“And Glock saw it all.”

The pain in Kay’s eyes as she heard those words was present but a moment, but it was there.

“It was only a testament to the girl’s amazing strength that she managed to survive for as long as she did, even with her inevitably grievous wounds, even with half her body missing. And Glock was there for her, as he’d always been, till she breathed her last. I have seen the same tragic sight countless times… yet I can never become blasé to someone’s death.

I feared for Glock, for he would surely seek retribution against the Demon, and so I relieved him from duty. But even then, I saw not a man driven to rage by thoughts of vengeance. I saw a man distraught, confused. A man conflicted by the haunting last words of the woman he loved. “

Kay lifted her head for the first time since the General spoke.

“What..” she tried to ask, her voice cracked and barely audible. “What were her last words?”

The General closed his eyes.

“Save her please. She’s just a child…”

As I had understood it that moment, so did Kay when the General spoke those words.

“His love for her… and his devotion to justice and his duty. These emotions clashed with the need for retribution, to strike the other cheek, to be released of his anger. His own battle waged on even as the case ended, with the girl in custody.

The funeral service was held soon thereafter, presided over by the Major Genya Nakajima, Glock’s former commanding officer, and uncle to the fallen Shinobu. Major Nakajima would tell me later, that this made Glock even more distraught, for he felt he had failed not only Shinobu, but also the person who had been like his second father. It took the both of us to reassure Glock that there was nothing he could’ve done.

It did not take long for Glock to escape from the depression of Shinobu’s death. Nonetheless, we knew he still harbored the internal strife and confusion she had left behind that day. There was only one method by which Glock could finally confront this conflict of his.

Only a month after that operation… Glock was assigned to be the temporary guardian of a young girl under special custody of the Bureau. The girl that he had been asked to save, and the same one that took Shinobu’s life.

Her name is Mai Enna.”

... Okay, that was totally unexpected. Damn, this increases Mai's drama level by 5000. That is not something Keroko can match (though she did get scarilly close, almost tearing Nanoha apart when she went berserk in A's).

Blaagh, backlog plauge, go away! Go away! Let me finish projects.

Yeah I was wondering whether to change her name. Proton Wira no? I tried Xyra, but its not a car ref. Should I change her name?

And the engagement was Kaempfer's dad's fault. He liked his best bud's daughter, and Kaempfer didn't have much objections, and Wira/Xyra was absolutely smitten with him, so it kinda stuck as much as Xyra's stuck around Kaempfer's neck.

Kha: Yes. These are Unit 01 and Unit 02, the SRX-4-78 Genesis Uninhibited Nendo Drive Assault-use Magical, or Gundam, Devices. They function as attachments to your current devices to materialize larger, power-assisted combat units. It'll help us take on bigger enemies like the C'tan that we fought on Meggido.

Art: Ho boy, this is great! (clambers into cockpit) I'm first! MATERIALIZE!

I'm 'board', so I decided to create MOAR . Anyway, this is actually a time-skip, and introduces yet another new character, though she has been around since FileS 3 went into planning. Without further ado:

While the group were out busting Necron butt, Aurion was hard at work. And in a flash of inspiration decided to try and copy the regenerative properties of Arnie's Necrodermis. The result was the deep action regenrative implant serum he crafted for Kaempfer, and he hoped that it would be useful to controlling and maybe limiting Kaempfer's disease.

And so, almost everyone was waiting in the lobby of the hospital anxiously while the dragon was undergoing surgery. Kha, still wrapped in bandages from his battles, hobbled through the glass door aided by Fate.

Sof: Captain...
Kha: Don't mind me. How's Kaempfer?
Sof: He's been inside for almost an hour. Aurion said he'd be done in that time too.
Kha: Damned. If only I wasn't in such a bad shape, I'd be able to help out...
Fate: You shouldn't push yourself...
Kha: But he's my friend, and he's always been there for me when I needed him, but today I'm unable to repay that favor...
Sof: I'm sure Kaempfer understands...

Erio: Hey look! It's Kaempfer!

Everyone gets up in a hurry. The dragonkin wheels himself into the waiting room on a wheelchair already dressed up in his usual wear.

Kha: Kaempfer! How are you feeling?
Kae: (smiles) I am well, Meister. The pain's gone.
Aur: (enters) Just give him some time to get over the soreness of the injections, and he'll be up and about in no time.

Everyone breaks up in applause. Kha gives his tsukaima a one-armed bear hug, Erio and Caro rush up in cheer, and Friedich lands on his shoulder, nuzzling him.

Kae: (laughing softly) Sorry to have worried everyone... Friediche stop crying, I'm in good health...
Zaf: (smirks) I hope you still remember our unfinished duel.
Kae: (looks serious and holds out a fist) A Dragon never forgets!
Zaf: (punches the outstretched fist) Right!

Hayate: Kaempfer and Zafira are really like "aniki"-type brothers, aren't they?
Keroko: Agreed!

Aur: Do you think you can try transforming soon?
Kae: Maybe... this afternoon?

Zaf: Huh?
Kha: Oh she's here?
Fate: Wha--?

Suddenly there was a whir of activity as a crimson haired hurricane stormed into the proceedings and glomped the seated dragon, knocking him off the seat and ending up on the ground in a messy pile.

????: (rubbing her head against Kaempfer's like a cat. Talking at 100km/h) Boohoo! I was so worry about you! First you weren't answering my calls, then I heard you went somewhere to fight aliens and by the time I got to Mid Childa I heard that you were getting an operation! How could you do this to me!!!
Kae: (groans) Yes... I'm sorry... Ow... My arm...
????: (blinks) OH NO!!! I'm so sorry! I'll move now.

Caro:

Kaempfer struggles to his feet, and the newcomer hurries over to his uninjured side and supports him.

Erio: Er... Kaempfer, who is... she?

"Let's see how these tough these drones are..." Koji grabbed Air's hilt and drew it from the scabbard, gripping it with both hands.
"It seems currenlty the Riot Force 6 is engaging in the skies and underground...we'll be cleaning up the surface." Maren explained.
"Understood."
He said plain and simple that Maren looked at him surprised and noticed the different expression on his face.
"Can you fight with one hand?" He asked.
"Yes, it's not a problem." She assured him.
"Good, let's start then."

He instantly dashed towards the closest drone and cut it in half before it even had a chance to fire, then moved to the next one.
Maren looked at him go, focused and aware, precise attacks without making unecessary movements.
A Drone was heading straight at her, shifting her attention to it , "Chain Bind!" She pointed at it.
But the drone escaped using AMF, "So this is an AMF?" saying to herself, "...3 seconds to dispel a bind."
The Drone fired at Maren, and she dodged them, "If that's the case..." She closed her fist, then punched right through the drone, "Expect no mercy..." exploding behind her.

They began hearing explosions high in the sky.
"It seems RF6 began engaging with the aerial types." Koji removed the blade of his device from a Drone, kicking it towards a group of drones.
"Yes, but..." She looked around, "It also seems we're surrounded."
Koji and Maren were back-to-back, while a large number of drones encircled them.
"Yet, they don't attack", Koji pointed that out.
"Most likely to prevent an acidental activation of the Lost Logia..." Maren kept track of their movement.

"How about destroying them all at once?" He suggested.
"Do you have such a spell?" She asked.
"Storm Slasher doesn't work in this situation, but..." He paused. "There's one that's guaranteed to work but takes time to cast".
"And If I buy you time by hindering their movements?"
"Binds don't work on them, you saw the AMF activate." He reminded her.
"I have one that AMF can't dispel." Maren assured him.
"Then let's do it!" Koji replied with a confident smile.

They jumped out at the same time, Koji gave some distance between him and the drones, while Maren floated above him.
Maren brought her free hand to her chest and began to chant while a golden circle appeared under her...

"I call upon you,
golden chains of heaven,
spread far and wide,
binding that which is fake,
and bring them to justice!
Divine Chains!"

Suddenly an enourmous magic cirlce appeared on the ground and countless chains came out, binding every single drone.
"So this is the rumoured divine magic..." Koji said amazed.
"Now's your chance!" Maren shouted as she kept the spell active.
"Okay!" He removed Air's sheath from his belt and put it into position, "Air Calibur! Mode 2!"

[Explozion!] the device shouted before loading 2 cartriges, [Zweihander!]
Air Calibur absorbs the sheath and begins to glow, its hilt grows a bit longer and the blade's length is doubled.
Koji stood in striking position, holding Air with both hands and closed his eyes...the Velka triangle appears under him as he recites.

"Oh legendary sword of wind,
my enemy is also yours,
grant me your peerless edge,
for I follow your will...
Cut through them!"

In a bright green flash, Koji disappeared for a second, then reappeared on the other side of the Drone cluster.

"Ama no...Murakumo..."

The Drones explode, Air returns to normal size and Koji sheathes it.

"Phew..." Koji sighed with relief.
"That was an impressive spell." Maren said as she landed.
"I can say the same about you." He spoke before turning to her, and then stood there...looking at her.
"What's wrong?" Maren blinked.
He blushed as he looked at her, "That Barrier Jacket suits you nicely." He then made a thumbs up.



"Uh..." She looked away, "What's wrong with him, he was so serious during the battle..." she said to herself.

The battle was over, all Relics were secured, two were in the possesion of the RF6, and one was currently with Maren and Koji.
They watched from afar the short battle between RF6 and the misterious attackers that fled after failing to retrieve the Relics and the "material".
Koji kept the perimeter safe as Maren reported the outcome.

"Understood..." Replied Maren when talking to a superior.
She turned to Koji, "We are to deliver this Relic back to HQ."
"Eh? We're not delivering it to the RF6?" Koji asked surprised.
"No, it seems our superiors want to keep this one."
"..." He looked down, disappointed.

Seeing him like that, Maren changed the subject...
"Ne..."
"Hmm? What?" He raised his head.
"You said before that the meaning of this date was to take a break and relax, wasn't it?"
"Oh...yeah, sorry the date ended up in such a way." He apologized bowing slightly.
Maren turned her back to him, "I don't mind...it was fun after all..."
"It was?" He said excited.

"...but..." she paused.
"Yes?"
"There was another reason behind this date wasn't there?" She asked.
"Ah...well..." He scratched his cheek, "I wanted to see you smile." He confessed.

Maren turned around and for the first time, Koji saw her smile.

The sword's blade was supposed to be a bit bigger (3x the length of the hilt), but then I noticed that it was near the limits of the sheet...

Koji was hoping to deliver the Relic to RF6 and use that as an excuse to visit them, but unfortunately, their superiors (Regius pulled some strings) didn't allow it.

As for the Relic's number...hmm, I'm not sure which ones are secured already, so I'll make it nº 9 *hopes this number hasn't appeared yet and won't appear in StrikerS*

MAHQ.net is a good place to look for a mecha + history. But I gotta tell ya son; a pilot doesn't pick a mecha. Uh-uh; the mecha picks the pilot. It's a mystical bond between man and machine.

@Ratler: It's just some fun after Kha built things called the Genesis Uninhibited Nendo Drive Assault-use Magical (G.U.N.D.A.M.) Devices out of fun, but found them to be fielded almost immediately in the I-n's arc.

Another short chapter continuing from last time, here's Past, Part II:

“Our course of action involved the capture of this girl for interrogation, and we did so for weeks without success. Only with the arrival of Enforcer Testarossa Haraown’s assistance were we able to formulate an effective plan of action to capture the target. An ambush had been set up to facilitate the plan. And the day finally arrived, and we executed the plan.

But no plan ever survives contact with an enemy. And no preparation could have anticipated for the power that girl possessed, endowed to her by a Lost Logia. The little girl became the avatar of destruction incarnate, both in form and in spirit. Only one word could describe her… Balrog.”

At the mention of the demon’s name, Maxim opened a large holodisplay, that displayed a sight that sent chills down my spine.

“A great pitch black demon, wreathed in blazing golden flame Wielding its burning swords, and its visage that stared into dark depths of the soul and made even the most stalwart of men tremble with fear. It was only through our stubborn persistence that we barely managed to hold out against it and eventually defeat it.

But the cost was unbearable. Five of my best men...”

He stopped to catch himself, his expression solemn.

“… Five were killed in the Demon’s rampage. And six more psychologically traumatized by the Demon’s psychic attacks. Eleven men, all of whom I have looked upon as if they were my children. Including Private Shinobu.”

I could see where this was going… And Kay’s expression became increasingly troubled.

“To this day, none of us could still stomach what happened to Shinobu, and it happened so quickly…”

A sigh, one that carried a lot of pain.

“She had gone on the offensive in support of our plan, bearing the incredible heat of the flames that emitted from the great demon. She fought bravely, valiantly with all her strength. But she alone would be no match for the incarnate of evil. All it took was a single stroke.”

The General choked, trying to find the words to continue.

“A single deadly stroke, that dismembered the girl in half.”

I’m not sure how any of us managed to keep out guts together when he mentioned that… but I couldn’t remove the image that had formed in my head. It sickened me to the core.

“And Glock saw it all.”

The pain in Kay’s eyes as she heard those words was present but a moment, but it was there.

“It was only a testament to the girl’s amazing strength that she managed to survive for as long as she did, even with her inevitably grievous wounds, even with half her body missing. And Glock was there for her, as he’d always been, till she breathed her last. I have seen the same tragic sight countless times… yet I can never become blasé to someone’s death.

I feared for Glock, for he would surely seek retribution against the Demon, and so I relieved him from duty. But even then, I saw not a man driven to rage by thoughts of vengeance. I saw a man distraught, confused. A man conflicted by the haunting last words of the woman he loved. “

Kay lifted her head for the first time since the General spoke.

“What..” she tried to ask, her voice cracked and barely audible. “What were her last words?”

The General closed his eyes.

“Save her please. She’s just a child…”

As I had understood it that moment, so did Kay when the General spoke those words.

“His love for her… and his devotion to justice and his duty. These emotions clashed with the need for retribution, to strike the other cheek, to be released of his anger. His own battle waged on even as the case ended, with the girl in custody.

The funeral service was held soon thereafter, presided over by the Major Genya Nakajima, Glock’s former commanding officer, and uncle to the fallen Shinobu. Major Nakajima would tell me later, that this made Glock even more distraught, for he felt he had failed not only Shinobu, but also the person who had been like his second father. It took the both of us to reassure Glock that there was nothing he could’ve done.

It did not take long for Glock to escape from the depression of Shinobu’s death. Nonetheless, we knew he still harbored the internal strife and confusion she had left behind that day. There was only one method by which Glock could finally confront this conflict of his.

Only a month after that operation… Glock was assigned to be the temporary guardian of a young girl under special custody of the Bureau. The girl that he had been asked to save, and the same one that took Shinobu’s life.

Her name is Mai Enna.”

Okay, so there're enough for everyone. But how large/small are these mecha? 'Cause the stats I found for Esca say that it's about 8m tall, but some of the others I've been looking @ (mahq) are closer to 20m. Are they all about the same size, or does it vary?

TIme to roll out the second version of the Gundam device, the 50m tall frame. Unfortunately these things can't be contained in the Unlimited Spell Forge Reality Marble (the 20m units filled the whole space) so Kha's going to have to built them in parts then somehow fit everything together.

Expect one to be ready as the end-losung for the ultimate Einst battle

And ho yeah I've fanonically turned Nanoha into a mecha anime... >_<;

@Reiji: Well what the Gundam frames do is that they either scale down or up the mecha to 20m of height, which is the frame's height. So no really worry about how big it its, its just how many extra parts is needed to materialize. Giant backpacks would be a source of strain, but as long as its not bigger than the mecha itself it'll work.

The risk is the Nendo Drives suddenly suffering overload failure. Its a probability that exists even for the standard sized mecha, with Perfect Zine, which has no backpack, having the lowest failure chance.

Though this GUNDAM exercise was inspired by the 1st I-n's OP.

Knowing Kha, he'd rather match them size for size. Honorable combat see?

Though part of it comes from him having extremely low DPS compared to the Aces.
