That was a great way to kick start the show. Lots of flashy scenes and great pacing. The mecha itself felt great as well and the world seems quite interesting. I was particularly interested in that conversation between the computer and Ledo at the start and how it conveys something rather important about the great empire. It looks like soldiers (at least) only get recognized as citizens after a minimum amount of time spent in service. That's a rather interesting tidbit that I hope will serve as a basis for comparison with this waterworld Ledo finds himself in.
On the other hand I wouldn't mind seeing what Gen would do with that concept of earned citizenship since that seems to lend itself to the type of stories he's known for (the ones that nicknamed him butcher )

Anyways, I got a huge Ender's Game vibe from the first half. The whole battle felt like Ender's fleet fighting the buggers, especially the Little Doctor like device they were using. |

So he time travelled back to Earth before humanity set out for the stars? Colour me disappointed, since I loved the epic space battle in the beginning, and I doubt we'll ever get back to it. Now we're onto land and sea battles, which doesn't tickle my fancy as much as space battles do.

I'm really glad there's finally a show which lives up to expectations, and then some. I suppose it's pretty much redundant now to talk about how great everything is about this first episode.
I hope Gen and co can keep up with this so that by the end of it I'll have one more series to add to my all time favourites! Quote:
But yeah I'd love to see more about life (or the lack thereof?) in the Alliance. Maybe there'll be flashbacks in future eps about Red's life growing up as a soldier. BTW does it look like the soldiers in the Alliance are clones or at least artifically grown, judging by the same hair colour? Maybe to do with coping with heavy losses fighting the war? That could explain the "right to reproduce"... |

That was even better than I expected. Wonderful animation, gorgeous scenery and battles, and bright color palette. The soundtrack isn't bad either.
Both settings (futuristic space colony Avalon and what I assume is a post apocalyptic Earth) were very interesting. I'm dying to find out more about the universe of Gargantia. I'm curious to see how they will tie everything in exactly. The previews made it seem like this would be a rather light-hearted show compared to Urobuchi's usual works, but the prologue indicates otherwise. We will definitely hear of those mysterious aliens again, and I wouldn't be surprised if they took the fight all the way to Earth. This could get dark pretty fast. Quote:

Definitely a very interesting start to the series. I hope that things will continue to develop well. I'm not sure yet if the story will be about the fights with the aliens or living on an underdeveloped earth. One of the better first episodes this season.

Nice start to the series. It looks like they blew their money shot this episode, and boy did they with that space battle. Now, I look forward to a fish out of water scenario and go from there. I was going "NOOOOOOOOO!!" at the end of the episode, and am ready for the next one.

Knowing zippo about this new series until I watched it, I admit I was a little bored by the first half of the show, not being a great fan of mecha battles. However, as soon as the second half started, my interest certainly perked up. Amy in her very bright costume running through the corridors of what looked to be an old an dilapidated ship started to make things look much more interesting for me. The show suddenly switched from a mecha battle anime to, well, what???

My only disappointment was that, with all that obsolete fire power aimed at him, the MC didn't get blown from here to kingdom come. I wonder what his buddy would have done without him. |

Pretty sure there was no time travel. Earth is just a backwater now, which makes sense since the Human Alliance or whatever seems to have lost track of it somewhere along the way.
I very much doubt we've seen the end of the space bugs or the Human Alliance, and I'm expecting to see inside Avalon at some point, although I'm not sure how we're going to get from here to there. |

HAH first show of the season that genuinely gets my interest up and I find out Gen wrote it...Why am I not surprised? Here's to hoping they can do more with the setting then Psycho did. Like others said I wanna hear more about society on that world ship/colony he comes from.
