I own the first two on digital. Itunes has had them for awhile now. I am interested in seeing the third one. Mainly because I heard Suzuki Tatsuhisa is the love interest.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first movie (while I liked it, it went way overboard with exposition), but two through four have settled into that comfort zone of familiarity that I associate with GitS: SAC.
GitS has always been a little overly reliant on exposition, but putting that nitpick aside, I'm interested to see what Arise's version of the Laughing Man will turn out to be (the puppet master behind this memory alteration). Now, on a slightly less serious note, maybe Motoko needs to find herself a new sniper. So far, Saitou hasn't really shown himself to be all that useful. Sleeping in meetings. Sleeping on the job and missing shots.

Funny, for me it was the complete opposite. I thought the first episode was good, standard GITS and nothing special, but good. But ep 2 was all shiny animation and action and barely any substance (plus memory alteration again, boo), and ep 3 was just really, really weird, unlike any GITS I've ever seen and not in a good way.

Speaking only for the first film, but Motoko feels like so much more of a character here than in the original film it's embarrassing. ARISE also keeps the philosophy just right on the surface to give us something to think about without shoving it down our throats like the original film did. Which is a good thing, because the cast is secondary to the plot and has no business even trying for the illusion of depth. Could've done without the random skinservice, but whatever. It's astonishing how much better this is than the original.
