I think that was probably done on purpose, to avoid copyright problems - rather than out of ignorance. You see that kind of thing a lot in animé where they want to bring in familiar environments, but don't want to be sued into the ground.

Basically, why the girls are given those new bodies comes with a price. All are target by Herve's clan to be used for reproduction purposes, because the females of his clan are dying.

Take note that Herve pronounces a utter disgust at the experiment both his grandfather and the scientists are conducting, because it means that they have given up complete hope that both Mireille and Anna will live.

An interesting development for the second arc, though we're still a some steps away as to how and why the 'viral-curse' triggers the transformations.

My interpretation is that to prevent the curses' effects from activating the life of said subject has to be transplanted into a new body.
It doesn't say much about if it guarantees a 100% that the disease would not manifest, or if it's a certain cure. However, when Lise was brought back to life she did not give away any of the symptoms or the transformation from when Herve's mother died and came back as a beast-woman.

I'm convinced that Herve would become the most tragic character throughout the story, because he's taking on any safeguards or hopes, no matter what little they are, to ensure that his female relatives will survive. But the crude reality is that the rest of his clan is going to permit those minor loses for the sake of a common scenario: that is the survival of the whole clan for future generations that would come.
I already have identified potential antagonists who they are Herve's grandfather and Dr. Benden.

Until now, Rula has been telling the truth and even willing to share the tidbits of secret information that she has not the told the girls outright yet, as long as the girls become serious and come prepared to risk any dangers to receive the knowledge. Explaining why Rula told Kate to have the power to defend herself, because Herve's clan is going after her and the other three.

Something curious about Rachel that I noted in episode nine was after all this mess she has been sucked into and the bonding she has established with the other self, she has grown quite tired to hang out with her old group of folks for night outs.
Her random meeting and conversation with the teacher was cute.

I am not sure if Lise has that curse/disease before she got the new body. I thought she was just a normal person, not related to either clan. But she must be special in a way that makes Lula's group revived her after she was killed.

Episode 10 explains a lot more about the background. I am inclined to say that Lula is a good person after all.

She actually felt sorry to kill those monster man. She said she had tried different ways to prevent those men from transforming into a monster, but she couldn't find any.

I am confused somewhat though. Lula's group is the one who put the curse on the other clan, and she said they had hid the way to remove the curse. If she really wanted to help those monster men, then she should have a way to do so, since she (or her group) was the one who make them transform in the first place.

BTW, they are starting to reuse their previous eyecatchers. Too bad they don't make new ones anymore.

Oh, the new clothes the girls wear are pretty nice, and the background is great.

I have just watched episode 10 (and well, the summary will come pretty soon on my blog). For now, my thoughts at 1.33 am.

It is without doubt that both sides have cursed each other, with both sides withholding the method to get rid of the curse. I guess the endless struggles have caused both sides to lose trust.

We also know that the men and women from each clan do not have any symptons of turning into a monster until it is too late. This is seen from the man who was fine the day before and now turned into a monster.

Unlike a few that had said earlier, the flower does not seem to be the trigger for the change. It feels more like a beacon to attract these man beasts, so that they can be directed to somewhere without anyone. It will be extremely dangerous if they are to assault normal people on the streets, no?

Claire's outburst shows that she is still struggling a lot with the situation. However, everyone is working hard to grow stronger, which is a good thing, as Lula proved to show that she is not a bad person. The strength of this show is that there are no real bad characters.

Can you say that Herve is bad for wanting to find a cure for Mirelle and Anna? Can you say that his grandfather is bad for trying to protect his clan? Can you say that Lula is bad to curse and slay the man beasts?

There is no longer right or wrong, good or bad sides in the story, which makes it difficult and painful to see.

Anyone got a suggestion on what to put for Herve's family name? Lula says something like "Dororu". Herve and Mireille are considered to be names of French origin, so I am going to be stereotypical and say their last name might be French, but I also have no idea how Japanese people pronounce French to be able to pick a French surname...

And this QCer is like "hay, Dror" (a russian surname), which sounds pretty badass!!

I watched episode 8 fansub made by the group 'gg' and I found it somewhat strange. Somehow it looked very fuzzy, degraded and 'bleached out'.

Of course, I watched the raw of this episode many weeks ago, but I seem to remember that it looked a lot sharper and the colors were a lot more vibrant. I only noticed this because Red Garden has one of the most vibrant color palettes of any anime airing right now and it is one of the reasons why I watch it.

Whoever watched both the raw video and the said fansub, can you confirm or debunk my observations? Was it really this pallid and discolored?

Additionally, is anyone watching other fansubs? How are they doing in comparison?

Just watched episode 11.

Oh no! Kate's sister's boyfriend is part of Herve's clan. Herve asked him to get to Kate, but he refused, becuase he really loves Emma (kate's sister).

Looks like Paula is pretty fond of Kate. Hmm...is she going to confess in the next episode?

Luke and Racheal's relationship is in a pinch, since Racheal can't explain what she's doing at night. And what's worse is that Racheal's friend (Amanda?) has a thing for Luke, and she's probably going to steal him away.

The fight near the end is cool, but way too short. They have become considerable stronger than before. It seems like they have developed some super power as well.

But either way, good episode. Just as the last one was. And I quite frankly think Rose and Sara should have their own spinoff show. They could fight crime (very uneffectively, of course). I mean, Rose isn't very good at doing anything else, as far as I can tell.

Though I'm sure this hunt they're on for Rose's father is going to have very good results..

Yeah, I have a bad feeling about it. Maybe Luke had done the deed already with that friend. ~sigh~

I am wondering if Rose's dad is connected to anything that's happening. Perhaps he's part of Herve's clan too. That would be devastating.

I thought after Lise woke up, she would become some evil character. Well, at least she seems pretty normal, although a bit clueless.

It seems that the more I learn about Herve and his family, the more I wonder what the hell is going on. Create humans? Can't they, you know, just find some women and marry them? Have they been marrying in the family since the curse struck? If everyone carries the curse but only (or mainly) the women are in danger of turning into monsters then what's up with the beast men the girls are exterminating?

Lula seemed genuinely concerned about Claire during their conversation, somehow she seems more "human" and caring as the series progresses. Which in a sense is disappointing because Tanaka Rie can voice the villain like the best of them.
Herve strikes me as someone who is going to switch sides sooner or later. I do wonder why didn't he attack Claire when she came to investigate the mansion in episode four, if we assume Lula was not lying when she said the Delors are after the new bodies.
Credit to Claire for not arguing much with her brother. I am curious to see their father.

Ex post episode 11, I can already foresee the direction where Kate's storyline will go.

The most obvious way forward would be:

- Lula finds out about the connection between Emilio, Herve and Kate.
- Lula uses the red stone of Emilio
- Kate is forced to kill Emilio to protect the team
- Kate's trust in Lula (or whatever there was of it) is shattered by the event.
- Kate starts gravitating more toward the Delors, with Herve flaming up the scene, as the post above has succinctly stated. 8)

The episode was good. Animation was somewhat limited, but it didn't detract much from the episode except in maybe a place or two, which could have used better body movement. It wasn't terrible, or anything, but some scenes looked clunky and unnatural. E.g. Rachel's fight with Luke and Claire's talk with her boss.

Ep 9.

The more I see of this show, the more impressed I get. It looks like it's taking the time to construct a very good story, with both the protagonists and antagonists well analyzed and none having trite or lacking motivations for fighting each other. The mystery has been well established and there have been a few subtle hints at some big plot twists to come down the road. It really has taken the right amount of time and focus in setting up the elements of a good story, so with every passing episode I become less and less fearful that they'll blow it. Fingers crossed that they won't.
